I think this one ranks as one of my most favorite user created skins of all time.

Wow! This makes me want Wuzikstation even more and I've never even played it.
What do you guys think, do I need this synth? I'd have to upgrade my CPU to even run it. I currently use Sytrus for my heavy-duty sound-design... Does it offer anything significant that I don't already have (aside from an interesting gui)?

Thanks for posting this! I hadn't looked at any of the alternate skins for Wusikstation, I'm downloading this bad boy now. The messy look will fit in perfectly with my messy studio! As to WusikStation vs. Sytrus, I have no idea. Having to upgrade your machine to run it is a serious barrier to entry, though.

Wusikstation's amazingly light on the CPU for what it does-most patches are under 30% on my old and slow 933 PentiumIII ew
| manytone | Posted: 24th October 2004 15:20 | |
Just to compare
I am on an AMD 1800 here and i get 3-6% on most patches So even though my machine is double yours in Power .... It gets much better performance than double on the Station. Paul

I know it doesn't run on my non-SSE Athlon 850. So I'd need to spend $120 to buy Wuzik in the group buy and get a new cpu.
I'm really seeking more info from the people who own it and have used it for a bit. How does it compare to their other synths? What do they like about it? What do they find limiting? Is it usefull as a multi-sampler? Are the soundsets good quality? That sort of stuff... Trying to decide if it should be the next addition to my setup...

Ok, having spent nights last week - and the entire weekend - with the darn thing, while I haven't tried *programming* it (I'm not much of a sound designer), I can give you my current opinion.
First, the "factory soundset" - basically all the Famous Keys banks.. are usable right out of the box. The factory banks don't include a good set of orchestral instruments, there are some decent string and such but I've not seen any woodwinds, typani, etc. so if you're looking for those, look elsewhere. There are several add-on banks, many containing some seriously complex patches and adding significantly to the usefulness of WusikStation. Second, sound quality. I've put it up against the Ravity demo (I'm buying Ravity next month), Rhino, and Cameleon - it can keep up with any of them, quality-wise (depending on the patch, I should add). The only synth I think sounds "better" (and this is extremely subjective) is z3ta, but that's a different beast and it's like comparing apples and oranges. Third, CPU consumption. I have no idea how William did it, but WusikStation is one of the lowest CPU consuming VSTi on my system! Given that my 2.53Ghz P4 can't handle too many instances of most of the other "big boys" *cough*z3ta*cough* I'm more than happy with how well it does. The only complaints I have so far are (a) that sometimes it takes quite a while to change patches, likely due to the size of the waves used, and (b) it shows the patch name but not the bank I have loaded. Oh, and the factory skin isn't to my taste but there are several replacements and I'm happy now. As far as programming, I have no clue. Given how fast new banks are coming out, it can't be terribly hard to put something together. You might want to ask in the Wusik.com forum here for more info. All in all, I'm extremely pleased with it so far, and have removed a couple of other VSTi as WusikStation covers the same sonic territory. Full disclosure: I mostly do soundtrack/ambient/soundscape dark-electronica tunes, so WusikStation works well with my style given the factory presets and most of the freely downloadable banks.

Thanks, woolyloach. Sounds pretty cool.
I have to think on it some...

I bought it just the other day. The smudge skins are great, and the Nord's not bad (at other end of spectrum) -- far preferable to the default, I find. The thing is a serious bargain at $50 until the end of October. Loads of excellent sounds in the full soundbanks, and its a tweakers delight.

i wonder if the demo is !skinnable! (is this a word?), too. i downloaded the demo (boy, it's what? 40MB???!!), but since my daw is experiencing some major downtime currently, i haven't bothered installing it. but this skin is so pretty, i want to install it, just so that i can look at it!

I don't usually care about skins/GUIs but that does look cool.
