I'm considering buting a m-audio transfer to record my XL-7 into audacity to transfer as a wav file to project 5. my question is can audacity recrd from a digital signal?

All signals that reach Audacity will be digital.

The analog inputs go through analog-to-digital converters before being processed in Audacity. Wink

What you REALLY need to know is, "Will Audacity recognize the digital input of my soundcard?", which will be dependent on the drivers of your soundcard. I can't test it (not owning digital devices), but in my list of devices, I DO see "M-Audio Delta S/PDIF" as a recording device.
