Aww damn, I thought this thread was about real basses.
Been just thinkin bout getting a 5 stringer, and was hoping for some advice for dirt cheap http://www.netzmarkt.de/thomann/harley_benton_hbb500tbk_5string_ebass_ prodinfo.html?iwid=2#fpix Not to steal a thread but is that any good?

Two five strings that I can tell you record real well. MusicMan Stingray - deep solid B string fundamental, ginsue sharp highs, superb thumb bass. Tony Levin, Pino Paladino. Yamaha TRB (six string) - punchy, forward, percolating, Jacoesque type tones and strong controlled low mid muscle. John Patitucci, Emilio Di Marco (also StingRay 5) B strings are all over the map on that low string. What you want is a strong fundamental without having to play it any differently than the rest of them. You should be able to really dig into that low string and not get a wonky, unstable tone. If you cheap out a pick up a bad one you will absolutely hate how the low string sounds on tape. Bleh. There you go, mate. This advice was free and cheap. These basses, however, are not.

What's real about an electric bass? The sound comes out of a speaker.

I recently discovered Iblit. Even though it has cold look, it's capable of producing really warm bass sound.

Sonic Reality Bass Guitar Sonik Capsule...Definately recommend it hands down. Very high quality basses in there. You can't go wrong if you're after acoustic and electric guitar basses.
For synth basses I'd look at Plugsound vol 5. It has a wealth of synth basses and almost all of them are high quality. Or, if you want really big libraries, you could look at UltraFocus or Sonik Synth 2, these are absolutely packed with synth basses and good value for money for all the presets you get, I hear Sonik Synth is an absolute killer. If you get either of these there's a good chance you'll never need to buy another synth module. It's your call, but the Bass Guitars capsule is of exceptional quality for realistic guitar basses, if that's what you're looking for.

thanks
i'm not looking for double-bass or electric bass sounds, just the synth ones. trilogy is way too expensive. more info: i'd need a bass sound that'd go well with real bass on top, not too muddy but warm music: funk/ electric jazz on the other hands, it should do well also in the more dance oriented material (not techno or trance or whatever) k |

cheap
