AuthorTopic: AlgoMusic's M42 Nebula Updated to ver 1.1

Hi all

The Dr and I have been busy. We now have a new update for M42 Nebula. The details are posted on the AlgoMusic forum here:

http://www.kvr-vst.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=66301

Basically a new GUI design, lots of mod possabilities including being able to use the LFO and Pulsar to modulate the Attack, Decay, Sustain and Release times of the mod envelope ( have you ever heard of THAT?? )Slower LFO rates, and user soundfont load, and more goodies besides. I also did a new 32 preset bank to demo the new mods. Thanks to all you guys who have been giving us suggs.

If you have not heard of M42 Nebula, check out our newly designed site.

http://www.algomusic.nl

You can download the demo and find out for yourself. You can load and save presets in the demo. It just has a beep every once in a while . Theres also MP3 demos as well.

We had to up the price USD wise however because of inflation, ( $49.95) but it's still 37 Euros. Its still an excellent price however, and with this update, theres lots more then ver 1.0. We know you will be pleasently surprised. I WAS!

Comments welcome

Thanks to you Tim and to the Dr.

A nice update.

I had just half an hour with it and it seems to be everything working and fine.

Just one little thing that is a bit difficult for me is the tiny numbers in the system field.
for the midi notes especially. They are too small for my old eyes.
I need to almost touch the screen of my monitor to read them. Shit!

But thats the only complaint. (so far Wink )

Everything else is better then before.

And the soundfond import expands the M42 to a new level.

One Question do I have. Is it possible to name the "warp ball", that it is possible to assign it to a midi controller?
Now when I open the midimap in eXT there are so many destinations without a label,
that I cant find it. And I dont know if it is possible.
But IŽd like that to be possible to recieve the data of two midi cc.
Would be great for realtime/live use.

Just a comment form me, the old, never contented fool.

The reason the dollars is deflated is because of all the people (like me) who are unemployed.

Okay, that may be specious logic, but hey, I love pretty much everything you work on, Tim, and this particular product just got further away from being a non-demo reality for me. Sad

YEP Cool
CC12 and CC13 respectivly. Thats the X-Y axis, and a great real time thing if you have a knob box.
I have a good deal of M42 parameters set up on my UC16, but wish I had more! But eXT is great to set up with a knob box.

well..I think this was the Dr's solution to get away from the usual SE display with this kind of dialog. He hand paints everything, including all the lettering and such. An allful lot of work. Thats why the letters have a neblocity about them( and looks cool)But we can see about the next update. Hard to get all those controls in there, and theres more in there then meets the eye: A dedicated vibrato ( not using an LFO in the synths) split keyboard options and even MIDI channel select for each synth for two part multi-timbral.

Thanks for your comments! This update really ROCKS!

That sounds great..I heard about those and the ones from B***...can't spell it. Embarassed ..but they make good stuff.

but I also have my MP7, which I should put into force..have not tried doing custom CC's on the knobs yet.

also: a note on the new LFO rates. They go pretty slow now, which means you can do real slow sequences.( using the unique arp function).so I tried doing some patches that make it sound like WusikStation or Kubik, and thier wave sequencers. Gets pretty close.Mkaes a good evolving pad sound.

Ah - if I didn't have Crystal, Wusikstation and Kubik. HiHi

Nice looking update Tim.
One of these when I feel like adding just one more synth I might even look at buying this.

In the meantime I will content myself with other people's enjoyment.

Hi all
Last night I was working in Tracktion and then just started working on a piece with the new M42. Here is what came out. 4 instances. Uses the new 32 preset sound set. ( only available to registered users)

1.PAD Sky window : This uses the arpegiattor on 7ths and the new slower LFO ratio's to create a wave sequence simulation ( like Kubik or WS)I'm just playing a few simple chords, and they change harmonic relationships as i'm playing.

2. RYM In and Out : This shows the new slower ratio's doing a filter sweep on a band pass filter on one synth, while the other synth does the chugga chugga totem rym.( Its the totem sound which the M42 has become known for.)

3. LED Silver Ship: a nice bright lead with a space modulation effect built in.

4.WARP Hammer it. I love the distortion in the warp module, and this patch brings it out.Had a lot of fun playing this. Tweaked filters as I played as well using my UC-16.

Nice track, and great news. M42 Nebula v1 was already my favourite synth. I only miss the old xy pad: much nicer. Will download the update when I'll get home later.

Thanks...It was a tough decision to not use a "space pic" in the warp area, but we are trying to make it look as proffessional as possible. The space pic might be looked at as "amaturish". So thats why we choose not to have it.

I'd say you have it backwards-the plain warp area looks to basic and unfinished.

BTW-any chance of making M42 skinable? My eyes aren't what they used to be, and more
contrast between the printing and background would be mucho appriciato! Smile

On a serious note - is there a bundle price for those of us (cheapskates) who already have one Algomusic product Smile

tim ... I enjoyed your demos v much ... talented stuff.

Haven't got Nebula as I'm trying to keep to a couple of synths and use them properly, instead of gear-hopping Wink

The other thing is that I've never tried playing ambient and haven't much of a clue other than maybe get an arp going and play pads over it, then texturise it a bit.

Is there a formula you use to get going?

(I know, I know, cheesy question ... but we all use formulas, all the same)

Meanwhile, thanx for the great music. It has real sensitivity Love Cool

well...The trick in using the RYMs and SEQ patches is to play them in time: that is play the next note ON THE BEAT, so it goes smoothly. Otherwise you might sound like vurt Wink Laughing ( thats a compliment ) Cool

but I have found that M42 is not just good for ambient or space music..but anything you need a rythmic type background. An example is to put in a few drum loops say at 90 BPM. Then layer an M42 RYM patch,( which is synced to BPM) and you got a good groove going. It can be very subtle as well. You could even do some very intense techno with it..just speed up that BPM!

However you might notice that several of the SEQ presets are actually SPLIT keyboards, with a one finger TD style sequence going on the left side, and a mellow or high intensity lead on the right. Thats what makes this a good live performance synth. It works well on Receptor ( although..still have to check to see if ver 1.1 works on it, but I am sure it will!!)

Theres some tips in the manual too, so check that out.

we will see in the next update. Unfortunatly..this is an SE product, which means you skin it within SE. It is possible to have different "flavours", and may if enough users want a certain style.

well...I wasn't going to post anymore, but I just got a CD from an M42 user in Canada ( Anthony Paul Kerby) of his " The Circular Ruins/ The Alchemy Concert" which was a live web braodcast , using multiple M42's. Heres the thread on the algomusic forum with more info, the link and you can download some MP3 examples.

http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=66728

It was kinda emotional for me listening to this, actually hearing a proffessional done project, but using the sound of the M42 as a dominant part. The DR and my efforts are paying off, with people actually using it to create music. What else can we ask for?
