AuthorTopic: AlgoMusic: The M42 Nebula Package

AlgoMusic presents:

The M42 Nebula Package.

Buy the acclaimed M42 Nebula VSTi, get AlgoMusic's AlgoN synth for free!

AlgoN was the prototype for the M42, which we have now refined, packed in 128 presets by noted sound designers Tim Conrardy and UGO, and giving it away to all registered users of the M42 Nebula VSTi. This means that new M42 Nebula users will also get the synth for free!
=====================================================
The Synths:

1. M42 Nebula VSTi version 1.1

The M42 Nebula has fastly become popular for it's spacey rhythmic "totem" sound.
Features include 2 separate synths with a myriad of modulation possibilities including a unique algorithmic arpeggio and pulsar with split keyboard ability. This is combined with a full effect section including warp distortion, chorus and tempo synced delays. The M42 Nebula comes loaded with 160 presets by noted sound designer Tim Conrardy as well as extra banks being developed. The new version now offers soundfont load support, new LFO ratios, and unusual modulation possabilities.

2. AlgoN v1.0 The prototype of the M42 Nebula

AlgoN was developed as a sketching board for our algorithmic ideas which developed into the current version of the M42 Nebula. Features include 2 seperate synths, each with 1 oscillator with multiple waveforms including two types of noise, a low pass filter, 2 LFOS', 2 envelope generators, multiple modulation routings and a rhythm grid. An algorithmic scale generator was added to enable ever changing sequences with user scale selection. Add to this stereo panning for each synth, split keyboard capacity, plus reverb and x-y BPM synced delays, and you have an algorithmic monster on your hands. While the interface looks more like a NI Reaktor setup, all parameters are shown on one screen for easy access, yet small enough to use in any host. AlgoN comes with 128 presets by noted sound designers Tim Conrardy and UGO ( http://www.cortidesign.com/ugo/ )

Layering M42 Nebula with AlgoN inside your host will give you BPM synced rhythms, spacial pads and sequences, split keyboard ability, all at once for a full pallette of ever changing sound.

well...might be a good idea, but X-Wof is being sold by GH Fortune. We are only hosting it for him, since we are ..er... AlgoMusic Wink

But AlgoN is pretty cool Cool and has a totally different sound then M42, although it was the prototype. Mind you..its an Algorithmic synth, so the sequences created with it sound algorithmic, but cool..like step time sequencers. ( for those that have it now..play the first patch!..but the first patch is demo-ed on that layer demo I did above as well. )I have also added 'regular" patches such as leads, basses , pads and split keyboards. All in all, a pretty cool synth, and when you layer it with M42..WOW! what a sound!

Thanks Spaceman..should be able to make some SERIOUS space music with it. Cool The sequences reminds me of Klaus Shultze and TD stuff, but all with one finger. You can also tweak it as it plays.

also: I would like to thank UGO for his AlgoN patches too! Nice work UGO!

yeah..I guess a lot of stuff gets released at this time. But our first intention was to give a little Xmas gift to our users. New users get the benifit as well. Talking abpout new releases, I hade Pychic Modulations Celebrum 2 ( cool algorithmic drum machine)together with AlgoN and an M42. That was cool! Its great now that you can get all this BPM synced stuff..hit one note, and you are all synced up and running and sounding good..and all with one finger!

This does not mean that algorithmic stuff is a "cheat". You can use it creativly. While it DOES allow the untrained musician to make music, and get some satisfaction, it allows the trained musican to go beyond his limits and concentrate on doing music, which is what we are doing at AlgoMusic.

While The M42 nebula and AlgoN can do "space music" there are other types of music you can do as well, like laying a RYM patch as a background to some piano. Pumping up the BPM to do a Teckno piece or Trance. Also I have found some very cool Organs and Strings in M42 ( might even do a small bank of organ and string sounds sometime soon) that are real fun to play, and sound good. The split keyboard is also a performance winner: having a one finger sequencence on the left or a bass sound, with a lead or Pad on the right. Actually, I was amazed at the bass sounds I could render out of AlgoN, and included quite a few, as well as keyboard splits with bass. Cool

anybody else use algorithmic stuff in thier music? Question

For AlgoN? There is a txt file in the zip that explains it. Should be all you need to know. Its rather simple really. If you disengage the Rhythm grid..you can play the notes in a regular fashion from your keyboard. Once you engage the grid, the algorithmic sequencer part takes over, and you can select your 'scale' in the bottom section. However when you play your keyboard, the note on the keyboard becomes the key note of the sequence.

For the modulation part: its not a mod grid like M42, but simple arrows with depth knobs to each destination: like LFO1 to Filter Cutoff, ect. That should help Smile

Almost good enough to let me start. It was the rythm grid and the scale that was puzzling me. In fact the scale still is: what does mean the G and A boxes on? A key? A chord/arp progression? It doesn't make much sense in either cases, does it? Rolling Eyes

Ok..Good Q's...If you just select the A note: you will hear just one note jumping up and down octaves according to how the range control is set. The A note will be actually in "tune" IE: the same key as your MIDI keyboard. In other words..if you layer another synth such as EVE, or M42, it will all be in tune with each other as you play the MIDI keyboard.

Now..selecting other "notes" will create intervals, such as 5ths, ect. Selecting a bunch of notes will make it sound more algorithmic as it will leap around those notes. You can also go off the wall and create UGORHYMICS, which is Ugo style patches Smile

The grid is interesting in that you can create slow to very fast, or "bouncing" type ryms. I have a few patches which alternate between the two synths in a stereo way, and that is created with the Rhythm grid.

Thanks for the Q;s...keep 'em coming!

yeah...thanks for your parsipatation Ugo! Been playing with some of your other patches for various synths, and you have a real knack at sound design...KEEP IT UP!

Your AlgoN patches are really different then my own and have thier own character, which goes to show what two sound designers can come up using the same synth. I also liked your name for them: UGORHYTHMICS. Cool

Looks like the DR finally updated the site with some scrolling news and a page for AlgoN. Good work DR!

Merry Christmas to all M42ers!
BTW: we are suppose to have a real "small" full moon for Christmas eve/ Day: like a natural Christmas ornament:-)
