I'm on the cusp of getting a new DAW. What will I face trying to install my Native Instrument and other Challenge/Response software (Stylus RMX, for one)? Is this fraught with difficulty that needs up-front work or will simple reinstallation suffice? I just want to try to anticipate the steps now so I can try to steer the new ship through calm waters later. Thanks!

Your NI stuff is painless-just install and run the registration tool.If you've already used your two authorizations, deactivate one of them through the manage authorizations page on the NI site before you install.Remember that once you've deactivated an authorization for a specific system ID,you CANNOT reauthorize that ID again.

The only challenge/response authorizations I have experienced which weren't automated, ie, instantly processed were my Antares registrations; those required an email from Antares tech, which has had varying times of occassionally aggrivating periods up to 48 hours. That, and Superwave..don't even get me started on that one..
IK Multimedia's = instant NI = instant WideBoy = instant I forget any others, but those three I did not have a problem getting immediate authorizations with at all. ciao,

Thanks ew and sc666...helpful and what I wanted to hear! Everytime I reformat or change computers I kinda feel like I need to knock down some stiff shots of cheap whiskey to prepare myself to meet Mr. Gates once again. The horror...the horror...

I had to do 2 reformats this last summer. The longest period of time consumed on each regarding Audio software was the time it took for the installation discs to copy over it's files. I should point out that after the second reformat, I did not re-install my Antares stuff as I was no longer intrested in that song & dance, so I hope there's some sort of structural reworking of the way their c/r works as I'm sitiing on 2 dead licenses right now worth about $600.. The Superwave stuff I just fucking deleted. ciao,

HI
To be honest if (like me) you don't use your DAW for internet I would say it is a pita - having to save the reg to a cd/floppy and then go to another internet pc - saying that I am currently doing just that with 7-8 different programmes, so I find it a REAL drag! For 1-2 programmes or if you have internet on your daw it's quite painless. Flipper. |
