AuthorTopic: I want to buy a sampler player: advice!
origami
Posted: 2nd January 2005 13:20
ok I've decided the only thing that I need right now is a good sampler player that allows me to manipulate my samples.

I need it mostly for drums though not exclusively, and I would like it to use not much cpu and obviously not very expensive: limit 200 euros.

I've thought of Kompakt. recommendations?

thanks in advance

As a freebie you can try, you might wanna try Shortcicuit..Lotsa ppl rave about that one, but I've had Kontakt for years & Kompakt is a great instrument as well..

Then again, as a Reaktor Sessions owner, why the hell don't you just use one of the hundred & one samplers for Reaktor?

very simple, sicklecell: cpu usage.

As I intend to use the sampler for my drum samples, I don't want to spend too much cpu on drums. as simple as that. in fact I have a very good reaktor drumsynth but I'm turning its sounds into samples just cos it uses too much cpu...around 20%

if you know of a really good reaktor sampler player with manipulating tools (filters, etc) that doesn't use much cpu, please please tell me.

as good as it gets (for a dedicated drum sampler) ...

I would get Battery 2, it's great for drums but you can load up other samples in it too the wave editing in it is easy and it covers most basic features.

Then again if your looking to buy multisampled stuff I would go for kontakt

I like Battery but... well I'll see...

a question about DR-008:

I've just read a bit about it and I see that it's very complete...and it has different drum synths...
but how does it work? do you use 2 synths (for example I've seen there's a kick synth and a snare synth) in the same instance? it seems complex...

right-click any cell and you can insert whatever you want (sampler / synth / whatever) ...

... you can have as many drum samplers / synths as DR008 has cells (96) in tghe same DR008 instance ... each one triggered by a different MIDI note

And if you really like skippy puppy, you can have some fun with Microtonic too!

about Microtonic: yes I like it a lot, i have a demo and sounds great. However, I didn't want a drum synth as much as a sampler player for drums...

about DR-008: it seems very interesting. just downloaded the demo, I'll check it out. and it's much cheaper than I wanted!
