I just got word that Hartmann have plans to make the ModelMaker software available for users of the NeuronVS.

More details will be posted at http://www.hartmann-music.com shortly.

Well, this news certainly changes everything...the Modelmaker software is undeniably one of the more desirable aspects of the Neuron. Good thing I got a new US hub over the weekend!

That's very strange. I've been in email communication with them about this, and I was told only a few days ago that
1. No - the software won't be included and
2. You need the hardware to help set up the model so that it won't work.

Now, I don't know if this answer makes total sense (I haven't worked with the Neuron), but the answer that I received was quite emphatic.

Received Friday:
"The ModelMaker software is only
available for hardware users.
It is basically possible to use the Models of the ModelMaker software
in the VS, but you have to set them up in the hardware first. Models
are transferred to the hardware from this software. It's not possible
to transfer the Models to the VS directly."

I read an interview with Alex Hartmann some time ago and he stated that there wouldn't be the ModelMaker in the VS version.
I'm wondering how they plan to sell their hardware Neuron...

As I already told you in my reply on forum.prosoniq.com ( http://forum.prosoniq.com/viewtopic.php?p=1836#1836 ) this "info" is BS. Obviously that guy has no idea what he's talking about (not a good sign, imho).

If you don't know how to set up the models that the MM creates with the VS email me (or post to the prosoniq forum) and I'll be happy to explain in more depth. I own both the hardware and the VS, in case you're wondering... Wink

And I'm pretty sure that if Stefan (neuronaut) posts that they have plans to release MM to the VS owners this is what they will do - after all, he developed the DSP part of that thing so he should know!

Cheers.

I emailed the guy back and asked him why he said this. I'm pretty peeved about it, actually. I am very interested in the synth, but it is disturbing to me that their support guy either lied blatantly, or was misinformed, if that was the case. It's not like if he emailed me on Friday the situation has changed since then...

It's possible they changed their stance on the whole thing since so many people complained.

I'm not sure how you change your stance on whether something actually works based on complaints, unless you were lying in the first place. I was told with no qualification on Friday that it simply does not work, and I am being told today not only that it does work, but that Hartmann are going to officially release it with the VS.

While I will probably buy anyway, I am more than a bit concerned that the company was either lying to me, or that their support person didn't know a basic fact about the product.

Maybe it's because it isn't supposed to work. As I said, you need to remove some cache files in order to actually make it work. If Jörg Hüttner (that support guy) was thinking of clicking a button to make it work then the answer is indeed "no". However, as I said it's quite easy to get it to work by copying the new model folder in the appropriate place and removing the model name cache file before firing up the VS...

Ok i am interested again....first saw the VS and was excited then they said it didn't have the model maker ability,...well then it became just another vsti(well at least not as special)

So apparently from what i am reading here,...one of two things has happened.

1. Yes or no there will be an update or addition to the software.

2. Or it is possible to utilize the model maker in a kind of sneaky way by porting files back into it,"removeing cache files etc." ...in the current version?

because for about $900 it would be nice if were well,....well designed and easy to use..........

It's not just a VSTi, it's part hardware ("nuke") and part software. The best of both worlds if you will.

The ModelMaker can be used right now. I own both the Neuron hardware and the plug in and it is really quite easy, even though I don't know if this is "official" or "allowed":

1. Create the Model from your sample(s) in MM. It creates a folder on your HD where the model is located (for example 123.model if you wish to store the new model as model #123).

2. Put that folder in your existing VS installation folder (->Models dir) and

3. remove the "ModelNames" file in the Models dir. Then start up the VS and there it is!

I bet there will be an update for ModelMaker (it's been promised for some time) but I don't know for sure.

Very Happy
kewl thanx
I try not to buy to much stuff,...i find i get less done when i do that,...but i do buy special stuff model maker even if it is kinda a round about way to do it puts the VS in what i think is the "special" category. I made my giant sound design splurge on a kyma so cant afford the hardware version Sad
But in a couple of months,...the software/hardware version is within reach,...so when i get it,...hopefully...I will put ur advice to use,...copied and pasted the whole post Smile
Cheapest i have seen it was on audiomidi,...if anyone knows another dealer that might sell it for a little less that would be kewl...(although i doubt that is gonna happen)
but thnx again Smile

Hello, thanks for your info Tahome but I followed these steps and no model name appear on the VS, at least on my PC and without the hardware. Also tried to edit the ModelNames file and then the new name appears on the menu but it seems not to be working and even it makes Cubase SX 2.0 to crash.
Any idea? I'm really interested on this.
Thanks and regard.

The software (and a PDF manual) are now available for registered VS users at the site www.hartmann-music.com/home/members.

Let's take this over to the Hartmann forum shall we. It belongs there anyway and I don't have the time to read two fora at the same time right now...
