AuthorTopic: New deWav tune ?? - Donks dies of shock!
deWaverley
Posted: 7th March 2003 13:52

No seriously
...a new tune HiHi HiHi HiHi

I recently bought a whole load of hardware/software (fed up of the Donks continual abuse Razz ), and this is the tune I made while starting to learn how to use it all.

It's a bit more upfront than H.o.D.
...oh, and for some reason it's called 'The Fugitive' ..(oh yes, and it's got more train noises I'm afraid HiHi ).

If you can be bothered, I seriously recommend wacking it up loud on some big speakers - cos it doesn't really come across on little 'puter speaks.

OK then...(it's a 4meg 192 mp3) - The Fugitive -

Sarcastic comments on my workrate very welcome HiHi

I barely remember HoD (I was new then) but I remember it was good. This one is amazing too. Love that you play synth leads the way I like synth leads to be played (very well). Played live?

...huuiiiii ... okay, i´m not a fan of synth-stuff; but this song is sophisticated - the arrangement, the playing of the harmonies has it´s own character. deWavo ... i had no clue what to expect, and in the first seconds i wasn´t interested.
But the "chorus" grew on me ... dee dip dee dip .... Laughing

okay - more!

nahhhh...I'm on a roll now - six months at the outside HiHi

thanks ner0z - that 2nd (Moogy) lead sound is atmosphere, the first is z3ta. Most of the swimmy sounds are from the Motif8, but I had to get 'Adagio Strings' in there somewhere! Embarassed The mix is probably imperfect, but my ears collapsed under the strain of finishing a tune HiHi - so I'll have to listen to it again in a few days.

thanks for the kind words (and noises) puttze 'n Krim

oh yes...prog - I thought of you actually when I played that Moog solo HiHi
- thought you might be up for a bit of that 'Riding the Scree' sort of behaviour! HiHi

nice stuff deW! Quite different from HoD, but good quality sound. Where did the drums come from btw? I love the moog playing, too.

Cool. Now you're talking. What's that bassline that kicks in around 1:22?

Here's a little excerpt of the original mix before DeWav took out his somewhat 'west cuntry' vocals....

Well, not a patch on HOD, but after a few listens, it grew on me. It started a bit urgently, but from the 1min mark built up nicely. didnt like the lead braasy sound much, maybe a bit of distortion would cure that Wink

Posted: 7th March 2003 16:10
Krim...how could you not like the z3ta 'estimated riff' sound?? Surprised it's delicious. Confused (btw, it's meant to start urgently, cos it's supposed to be an express train hurtling past your face with all the bright lights in the carriages flashing by).

thanks Moritz Cool

donks

claire, I'm sooo glad you like it (as I lovve your exquisite CD) - I can go to bed happy now. Embarassed (btw, use that credit card - because Stylus is a phenomenon - makes writing rhythmic things so quick).

Wow. This is beautifully produced. Very Depechey chords. Not too keen on the ever so slightly cheesy pad, but the programming's great. Very Happy

fitch...Stylus is probably not an immediate necessity, given the styles you write in at the moment (trying to see things from your bank manager's point of view here HiHi), but if you're doing drum-y stuff, it's a great shortcut if you haven't been keeping up with the intricacies of all the different dance styles out there...nah, you need to get it really! HiHi

thanks choocho...I haven't really heard Depeche Mode since Vince Clark left, but it's an interesting chord sequence (Bm Bb Gm Ab) - doesn't really make any sense, but I love the sound of looping back from Ab to Bm - how about this then {{severe pretension alert}} :
B minor is the minor of the relative major of the minor of Ab major..I think that's why it works! HiHi
...God, I hope donks doesn't read this! Razz

When you say 'cheesy', if you mean the 'doo-da doo-da' brassy thing, I know what you're saying - several people here have obviously felt uncomfortable with it...but....it's interesting that of all the people I've played it to in the 'real world', every one of them has got really excited by that noise!...I think we're all guilty as musos of avoiding the 'obvious' sounds which appeal to the punters out there, in the search for subtlety and originality......or maybe it's just cheesy! HiHi

Very Happy

I like it - it inspired me deW!!!!

You need some "abused catholic who watches horror movies" kinda singing on it!

Smile

Erm - someone should say something nasty.

It sounds like a cross between the Clothes Show and a Depeche Mode B-Side.

The kinda shit the Pet Shop Boys are churning out lately.

Fantastic!!!

Really like it!
