AuthorTopic: "So completely" new -complete- song :)

Posted: 2nd April 2004 20:10
Hey guys.... today I started a song, didn't think I'd actually finish it, but I did... Smile heh, haven't had a finished one on here for over a month I think, anyways... This one I think more people than usual will like, because it's not totally like my all out metal or punk stuff I usually do... it's semi-laid-back... but then again, not really... I dunno, it reminds me of something, but I'm not sure what... anways.. on to the song...

"So Completely"
http://www.fallingdownstudio.com/mp3/so_completely.mp3

Things used...
Cort 7 string guitar
schecter 6 stringer
Rogue bass
Flextone III amp
Cubase SX
Fruity for drum programming
mda ePiano
and a ton of vst and dx effects... Smile

Here are the lyrics if your interested....

Somedays, are better than other days
Sometimes, I feel alone
but This day, is better than other days
cause Your here now, and I'm not alone

So completely perplexing
without you here
So completely breath taking
with you here now

Right Now, I need you right next to me
Or Somehow, we'll talk on the phone
mayb Someday, you will be right next to me
cause I miss you, your so far away

So completely perplexing
without you here
So completely breath taking
with you here now

As usual all comments welcome and much apreciated Very Happy

Oddly, it reminds me of Circle of Dust's "Mesmerized".

reminds me of a lot of american rock stuff i hear on the radio at work.not what i am into so i dont know any of the artists concerned, but it would stand next to most of them on the radio no problem.the mix is good as is the musician ship and the voice are great for this kind of track.

oh and i mean the more recent stuff not bonjovi n poodle rock but the last couple of years or so Embarassed

all in all nice work now do more Very Happy

hey kyle, nice to see a finished track posted HiHi
i really like the drum sounds, what did you use? guitars sounded great. vocals were excellent as usual. my only gripe would be that there wasn't much difference between the chorus and verse. they just weren't dynamically different. not my favorite song of yours, but very nice all the same.

thanx... good to here you think it'd work with other stuff on the radio.. heh.. and nothen against bonjovi, but glad it doesn't sound like them... heh... Wink

t-willy
glad you like, excpet for the non-dynamicly differrent chorus... Wink ... I was kinda shooting for an easy flowing song anyways so... I think it turned out the way I wanted... and the drums I think are partly from the blue jay drum kit... but I'm not totally for sure which pieces are from it... I think the snare and the ride are from anouther kit... heh, I really am not sure Embarassed It's been awhile since I put this acoustic kit together... thanx for the listen and compliments Very Happy

ok, I hope I'm in the right place now...(don't ask)

good tune, gc
nice mix and guitars as usual.
good vocal too
although, to me this style (see, not you, this style)
seems full of anger and teen angst. but then again, that's what rock is all about!
as a middle aged republican it's hard
for me to sing with much anger anymore.

heh, ya... rock is usually that way anymore... hope this song didn't sound to much like that Confused , but then again, it's alright if it did.. heh...

hah, Laughing , now if you were a middle aged libitarian... I'm sure you could sing with some anger and angst... Laughing

(nothing against libitarians... they have some fine points... but... yeah.. I'll stop there...)

heh, thanks for the listen bluedad Smile

I bet some people here could do some great remixes, that's always fun and you'd probably get some great results.

Something to think about, huh?

yeah... actually... Very Happy if I were to do that... how would you want me put the files up... export each track independantly as wav or mp3 files mayb? and mayb the midi file for the epiano thing... I'd love to have some remixes of any song of mine if anyone is interested...

ill take a go at a remix
not sure ill get anywhere but it will be a cool challennge
and its a good track to start with,so should be fun too.

if you can just export each individual track as mp3 will be fine(high as you want bitrate wise Wink )

ok... as long as one or two people are interested I'll put her up... might not have it up until tommorrow, but I'll try to shoot for tonight sometime... I'm trying to remember how many tracks I ended up using on that... I don't think there are a whole lot.. but I'm not sure... could be around 11 or 12 tracks all together... Rolling Eyes o well... I'll try to make the file decently small, without losing to much quality...

don't worry about the size most of us have broadband
(unless you're squeezed for web space)
do it at least 128 or even 192
vurt
Posted: 4th April 2004 11:01
agreed and if webspace is a prob mail em to me and ill put em up
just pm me if this is needed Wink

Posted: 4th April 2004 11:02
heh, aight... I have dial-up myself.. so I can relate to all the dial-upers... Wink but yeah.. I have plenty of space... so, I'll probley put it up at 192...

I think I'm gonna work on some math here in a bit, so it won't be until l8r when I get it all together and uploaded...

haven't have time to do the tracks yet... but was wanting input too before I did that...

When I mix them down, is it ok if I mix one track in it's entirety, or let me explain... from start to finish, even the silent gaps.... that might help you line it up better when putting it into your DAW, but would be a bigger file size I'm sure....

and also... do you want the tracks 'dry' for the most part? and then, I have some back-up vocals that are kinda silent on the choruses, might put them in a stereo mixdown file instead of alot of mono ones...

oh... and word to the wise.... If by chance you feel like writing your girlfriend a song and telling her you love her... DON'T !!! it's just been one of those days... Mad

o well... life goes on...

Sorry to hear about your girlfriend deal.

Loops and short sections would work, then we just arrange them how we do....midi files are good too.

a creed like sphere
well procuced
good singing
perhaps to many reapeating lines
i find the cymbal a tick to loud
the rest of the drum comes out ok

i am a fan of louder basslines - gives a song a solid body together with the drum - i missed it. the low section is very soft in this

further - i believe Kyle Altenderfer is very very talented

Ok, now for the criticism.

I love the song and the playing but I have a few mix requests.

1. Bring the vocals out front a bit more. I think maybe just a little EQ would do it. A little bit it the higher freqencies probably.

2. The distorted guitar could be brought up a little when the vocals stop. Also maybe a little high frequency boost would help.

3. The solo needs to be more out front as well.

4. Ok, one playing request. I think the drums could benefit from some variation. Maybe just a fill or two.

Otherwise, I love this tune. Your vocals are top notch. I only wish I had that talent.

Good job.
