I've been trying out the Mac beta of Tracktion for a few days now and loving it. Contrary to some reports on this forum it's been rock solid here, apart from occasional screen redraw glitches which I think might be caused by my meager video card and the fact that there's a lot of app heavily using transparency running in the background.
I'm about to register it but was wondering about one issue: there is a machine-specific code generated based on the hardware configuration. One of my machines (the one which I use most) is about to receive a CPU upgrade and later on I'm also planning to buy a new video card for it... What changes in the hardware actually trigger the change in that code (and thus require a new serial number, apparenly)? I'm not in a hurry to make Tracktion fully functionable (I'm a home hobbyist and don't have any urgent projects to finish or something, and besides it's a beta What are your experiences with hardware upgrades and the need to re-register? And possibly there are some developments in the Mackie's future policy regarding Tracktion that I've missed, and I don't have to worry about the price suddenly going up?

No-one (except Jules obviously) really knows quite what the cut off point for new hardware is, but I've found it to be fairly generous.
Either way, you can change your Machine ID on the site. You get two to start with, and then after a short period of time, you can change eiether/both of those codes again. If you are updating both the CPU and card at the same time then the two IDs will be sufficient anyway.

Thanks for the reply! In fact I'd like to save the second serial number for an iMac (currently OS9-only but queued for an OS update) but if the whole process is automated that's good enough for me Cheers, and happy Christmas! |
