AuthorTopic: What audio interface do you use?

Just curious to see what audio interface Tracktion users are commonly using. As stated in a previous post, I am interested in the new Mackie Spike, but it's still a USB 1.0 unit and I already have an older Roland USB interface that I want to replace. Any reasonably priced (i.e., under $500US) recommendations (other than the Mackie)?

M-Audio Delta 44 fed from a Fostex 2016 line mixer. Not the best of arrangements but plenty fine for me!

I use a Metric Halo 2882. Highly recommended if you have the £££.

16 Channel Soundscape Mixtreme connected via TDIF to a
2 Mic / 2 line Soundscape break out box. I find the Mixtreme is very flexible. Very Happy

I'm also shopping around.

The M-Audio Firestation? looks good at a street price of 399.00

My pick is the presonus with 8 in AND 8 out, mic pre's, midi, firewire and the street price is 499.00.

The M-box has a solid reputation for good mic pre's.

Despite the reports to the contrary, I have a friend who gets great results from his M-Audio Audiophile USB running tracktion on an ibook G3 700. Street price is around 125.00.

Speaking as an MAudio owner, their stuff either works flawlessly, or gives you weeks of headaches, sets light to your porn collection, and kills your kittens. I've had nearly a year of pure stress free existence with my Audiophile, punctuated by four days of absolute hell when a driver update went funny.

M-Audio Delta 66/Omni studio over here. I've had it for 3 years or so without a single problem. Not even one. Its like it came with my computer, it just sits there and works.

I never download any of the new drivers tho cuz these are working perfectly so why risk it.

I am using a Berhinger MX602A mixer with a Tascam US-122 interface and everything works flawlessly...and it's cheap. I bought everything on eBay (including cables) for a little over $200.

That's a damn good question, and one I asked myself just a little too late. Wink

Yeppers, I'm awful careful with driver "updates" from M-Audio. I always keep copies of old versions and NEVER update in the middle of a serious project! Shit!

Other than that, my Delta 44 has been flawless in operation the year or so I've had it, although the last time I did a driver update I got close to throwing it into the dumpster.. lol! I learned my lesson - don't screw with it if it works! Surprised

Speaking about that (this is very OT), I'm finishing a huge project right now so I cant download the new version of Tracktion with RF's!!!! I sold a bunch of my tracks to some R&B singer so I have to finish mixing them etc. Damnit, If my head wasnt shaved I'd be pulling my hair out Shocked.

Anyways back to the interfaces Smile .

The presonus unit is very nice, but it's maximum sample rate is 48khz. I'd guess that they will release an updated version soon...
