Capital idea, lets hear some SSP tunes...
Actually Mr P, I already put it in the Demo section on the SSP I page so you are "official". Oops I forgot to mention that.

House/Dance Track With SSP I
-----------------------------
Synth Studio Sample
Just created using Synth Studio Pack I
Drums: Native Instruments Synthetic Drums
Tracks:
Castor II
Janus
Pollux
Maybe some Cosmo in there, but I do not remember.
I layered two bass patches to get it deep in the chorus. I am really pleased with these synths. Especially Janus and Castor II. I probably could come up with some really cool things and enjoy the other synths more, but I AM NOT good with synthesis. The most I can do is adjust a few parameters. I"d love to have more presets for Cosmo, since I think that is what I was looking for to give me a Madonna Bass Sound I was looking for. But with the production I do, I have enough options to chose from with this synth pack.
Benedict - these rock. I will certainly use these on the regular.

Hi Mr Silent
These sounds are great, I love em. Have to ask about the lead melody sound - where is that from? Reminds me of a sound/melody from a live record I have from Adelbert Von Deyen on the old Sky label in 1984.
Cosmo 201 is pretty easy to program once you get your head around him. Basically 2 synths strapped together + a standard filter on the end.

@Benedict==>Adelbert? Wow, didn't know you got that obscure in your space music. I've got one album of his...Sternzeit, I think, from probably aroun 1978...he got criticized for being a Schulze wannabe, but I really liked his work. I think of it as Schulze created a new style of composition, and Von Deyen simply picked up on it and did his own thing within the format.
But I digress...
Benedict - Tue Sep 11, 2007 4:37 pm
I found Adelbert in a used record store and while there is some Schulze it is far prettier, almost pop like Rob Papen's old outfit Nova. I have a few of those kinds of things from odd German blokes with white faces an blue hair. Fun stuff.
Nice to see you here Em

Em, you are the lord of music
altho that Albino sounds like utter, utter, utter...
Still waiting on an Emdot album
emdot_ambient - Wed Sep 19, 2007 6:18 pm

Thanks.
My problem with doing an album is that I that I don't want an album to be a collection of unrelated songs. I'd prefer it to be songs created to go together--a document to a particular time and creative state. I've got more than enough material for an album or two, but the songs don't seem related to me, just a bunch of isolated tunes. That and all the organization involved after doing the tracks.
Let's face it, I'm a terrible procrastinator!
Benedict - Wed Sep 19, 2007 9:11 pm
Get 60-80 mins of Emdot lovliness and wack it on a CD and call it a "collected works". Problem solved.
I could even be talked into making artwork so I think the phrase is
Checkmate!

wanker
Benedict - Thu Sep 20, 2007 4:06 pm
I could also use the phrase
Snookered
I mean you gotta know when you are bested.

Hi Y'all
Here's something that just fell out of Traction 3
100% SSP I + II
3 x Castor II, SampleoTron, Cluster, Seq 28-116, Waveline, Space and a yet to be released Chorus

Good stuff, Benedict! It's reminding me of something from back in the 70s but I can't put my finger on it...anyway I love how you write minimal, introspective songs like this, yet seem to only listen to country and other very non-electronic genres. The contrast is pretty interesting.
bobsled - Sat Sep 29, 2007 5:34 am
Nice. Enjoyed both ya'll's music. Great job, sharpsilent. You, too, Benedict.
Wonderful hearing SSP I & II (and a yet to be released Chorus), more please!
Benedict - Sat Sep 29, 2007 11:56 pm
Thank you Em and Mr Sled
I'm really working at the moment to understand the whole Digital/Analog thing (in practical terms) so maybe I'm getting somewhere.

U-welcome...I'm kind of excited because I'll soon have a song to add here as well. Over the past couple of days I've started getting back to the song that led me to ask Benedict if Castor might one day have its LFO's phase sync'd to host tempo. This, if you don't know, set him off on the path that eventually lead to Castor II.
Funny thing is, this song originally started as a trial for one of the old versions of Janus, back before SSP and even before Benedict was selling his synths--back when Janus was a complete CPU hog! It also contains his old synth, The Orange...I'll be adding some Janus 3.5 and Atlas soon. It also uses Galaxy M-51, Oddity, Albino 3, Cygnus and Triangle I.
Anyone into Ash Ra temple should get a kick out of it. Very mellow in a way-back kind of mood. Need a few more nights of stolen work on it, though.

Okay, this one was a long, long time in the making. I've mentioned it several times before. Thought I might as well go ahead and share it, along with another newer one...both of which Benedict has a copy on CD
I'll do these in 2 posts and put them in the Music Cafe as well.
Trials of Janus (13:44 minutes, you were warned) began back before SSPI when Benedict had just released the CPU hog Janus 3 (I think). This was before a total re-work that turned into Janus 3.5.
It's also notable for using the old Benedict Orange synth. And, more importantly, the Castor II preset used started out as a Castor I sound, but without the new feature of syncing the LFO to tempo, it was impossible to get recorded correctly. It was this preset and song that prompted me to start nudging our kind benefactor into a re-work of Castor...and thus Castor II came about. Or at least that's my story
The instruments (listed in order of appearance) are as follows:
Wavesphere by Benedict Roff-Marsh (Synth Studio Pack II)
Janus 3 by Benedict Roff-Marsh
Cygnus by Krakli
Oddity by GMedia
The Orange by Benedict Roff-Marsh
Castor II by Benedict Roff-Marsh (Synth Studio Pack I)
M51 Galaxy by Algo Music
Albino 3 by Rob Papen/Linplug
Atlas by Benedict Roff-Marsh (Synth Studio Pack II)
Minimogue VA by Richard Brooks and the Voltkitchen Group
FM8 by Native Instruments
FreeDrum by GTG
JX16 by Steinberg
Oddity by GMedia
FX:
Dual Delay by Big Tick
Classic Delay by Kjaerhus Audio
GPP1 by Kjaerhus Audio
LPGEQ2_1 by slim slow slider
GComp by GVST
GGate by GVST
Orange Segments by Benedict Roff-Marsh
Ambience by Garritan
NyquistEq5 by Magnus @ Smartelectronix
Very laid back in an Ash Ra Temple kind of way.

Secondly,
Voices of Ether I is the start of a (hopefully) series of tracks with vocal-like sounds.
This one is a darker ambient drone piece reminiscent of something off Klaus Schulze's Irrlicht album.
Now, the interesting thing here from a SSP point of view is the first 3 minutes of the song. I recorded one long live track using one of the Vangelis presets for NewWave but realized that it would sound better if I split the highs and lows into two tracks. So I divided the MIDI files and loaded two instances of NewWave using the same preset. The signal routing for these were as such:
NewWave highs==>GS-201==>G-Comp==>SIR_1011
I did CC automation on the Repeat Rate, Intensity, Echo Volume and Mode Selector on the GS-201 tape delay.
NewWave Lows==>Effectizer(tremolo)==>RetroDelay==>GlaceVerb
The tremolo effect on the lows gives it that pulsing sound.
After the 3 minute mark, I added an M-Tron Chorus track, an improvised and unedited B4II organ part and a Castor II SFX preset.
At the end the whole track resolves in an explosion that was made using Albino3 (3 layers of SFX), a track of audio taken from a KVR member's recording of the Washington DC Metro rail (reversed)--I don't know who's recording it was, big files, I only downloaded a couple and only used a small snip--and a sample of an actual explosion. All run through various FX an EQ.
I really, really like this one. It's dark and mysterious and meditative at the same time.
Enjoy!

Thanks Em
And thanks for the CD - when Emdot gets around to making this public you should all buy it as it is very good.
Thanks for the big explanations - I shall listen and read along.

Bit of a thread hijack - sorry Benedict

Essentially the CD is ready (as in the tracks are done) but I have not gotten my head wrapped around how I want to distribute it (CDR, download only, pay for a limited CD run, etc.). I really need to get a web page set up, that would be a start, huh?

Cool! Yep a webpage would indeed be a good start
Thanks for the info, I've still got Voices Of Ether I on my ipod and it came on today on random play hence my renewed interested.
For what its worth I mainly buy digitally now but I also like picking up nicely packaged cds like
Nebris - Bleak Angels or
Project Serendipity - Linear Lullabies . Mind you I'm a terminal vinyl junky so I'd take my views with a pillar of salt
Might be an idea for a poll with the next track you put up in the cafe though?
We now return to your irregularly scheduled programming.
Benedict - Thu Jun 26, 2008 4:54 pm
I think the Emdot CD is relevant because Em is a dude and his CD does feature SSP in several places.
My 2 cents, abandon CDs and offer download at high quality for low price as buyer motivation is poor these days if you aren't super famous.
And yes Em a web site is a good start, maybe also follow me onto YouTube - I'll be your friend

Posted this on a different thread as well, but...
I decided to post essentially the same CD I sent to Benedict on Last.FM:
Tablet of Destinies
13 tracks, 75 minutes or so.
All of them are set so you can stream the full tracks. Some you can download. This isn't exactly the same track listing as what I sent Benedict...and since the tracks are individual mp3's I didn't blend the end of some songs into the beginnings of the next as I did on the CDR for Benedict.
Still need to add some artist and album pics to that page.
Benedict - Fri Dec 19, 2008 6:33 pm
Cool
Get this album y'all as it is really good (or at least my version is)
Onya Em
