I have spent hours trying to get somewhere CLOSE to this kick sound.. using acoustic drum samples, compression, distortion, drum machine sounds, EQ, and everything in between. I simply cannot get anywhere close to the largeness of it, that ultra-tight attack, and round body. Does anyone have any idea? Please be very specific! General advice like 'it's just lots of layering and processing' etc. is not very helpful as I've heard that all before... but if there are specific sample CDs, or some sort of unusual production trick or plugin that you think is being used, I would love to hear it.

Actually, there is sort of a secret.. it's using an old buzz kick synth (You can use one in FL studio "Buzz Generator Adapter).. I would give you a link to get it, but buzzmachines.com is down, so get it here..
http://www.box.net/shared/gm0k2sk795
Put this in this folder.. C:\Program Files\Image-Line\FL Studio 7\Plugins\Fruity\Generators\Buzz Generator Adapter
When using it hit C3 on your keyboard..
EDIT: this is the almost the default sound with NO processing:

Wow. That was amazingly simple.
Thank you very much; I had asked a bunch of friends of mine who kept trying to tell me it was some sort of thing with compression, or it was a 909 kick changed around, but I knew there was something else to it.

Thanks for this buzz generator
You can check out Bazzism (not free though but cheap )
Where can we find th other buzz machines when that the site is gone ?
sb.net - Wed Nov 07, 2007 11:50 am
Your very welcome!!
Vonbrucken, very good question.. I've always liked the effects and generators..

Something fun and stupid you can do with that one: automate the "trigger" parameter with, say, a squarewave LFO.
dusted william - Wed Nov 07, 2007 5:27 pm
is there a way to use buzz generators without FL or buzz?
I searched for a VST buzz machine wrapper thing, but found nothing.
thanks for the tip:)

That's a cool kick. Would someone make it available as a wav file somewhere?
You can download jeskola buzz from there:

Elijah.P - Fri Nov 09, 2007 5:14 pm
this kick is just a vengeance sample
LBN - Fri Nov 09, 2007 5:31 pm
It just sounds like a kick any halfway decent FM synth could make.
zircon - Fri Nov 09, 2007 5:42 pm
Maybe so, but getting it from the Buzz Machine it was originally generated from seems to be a superior method of reproducing it.
Mr. Tunes - Fri Nov 09, 2007 7:21 pm
Deadmau5 rocks. great drums and bass synth sounds in his tracks
dusted william - Fri Nov 09, 2007 10:47 pm
so I have the demo of FL going, I drop it into the folder, but it won't show up in the fruity browser.
What am I doing wrong?

Cordelia - Fri Nov 09, 2007 10:56 pm
Did you try "re-read structure"? I think it's at the top of the browser somewhere.
dusted william - Fri Nov 09, 2007 11:00 pm
yeah, I just tried it again.
I wonder if it won't show up in the demo.

You have to go to the Buzz Generator Adapter.. it's a fruity plugin..
dusted william - Sat Nov 10, 2007 9:15 am
I dropped the above buzz machine in this folder
C:\Program Files\Image-Line\FL Studio 7\Plugins\Fruity\Generators\Buzz Generator Adapter
and it is not showing up as a buzz generator adaptor in fruity.
I see the other buzz generators, but not the one I dropped in.
I wonder if this is a limitation of the demo?

Are you using the beta?

it should work..

Try putting the DLL on you desktop and navigate there inside of the Buzz Generator..
Shandar - Sun Nov 11, 2007 7:04 am
Same here. I'm using FL Studio 7.0.0 (not demo) and it doesn't recognize the dll as a generator (It isn't visualized among the generators).
Instead I can see it in the buzz effect adapter, but when I try to open it it says it's a generator and it couldn't be opened.

I can now get it to work through the buzz generator, but not from Fruity Browser.
I think I'm going to have to now pick up fruity loops. I love those buzz adapters.

lol so much trouble for a generated sound - can anyone upload this kick for us?
_starcraft_ - Mon Nov 12, 2007 8:13 am
there's nothin special about this kick. it's used everywhere in electro house and probably features on countless sample cds.
why don't u just sample the kick ? u can pick it up from the first 4 seconds....it's common practice in dance music to sample the kick from records u know.
maxm - Fri Jan 11, 2008 7:17 am
Let's see if I can revive this thread...
I really liked that buzz-generated kick. I have tried a couple of different kick-synths and played around with sinewaves in samplers but I have not come anywhere near THAT sound.
But I'm on a mac so FL Studio is a no go. Could someone please tell me what parameters exactly there are in that synth or if you know of a similar kick-synth for OSX.
Anyhow, thanks for an interesting read.

well, I knocked up a Sytrus preset that sounds the same.
Then it ocurred to me I used the FL version...
Per Lichtman - Mon Apr 28, 2008 1:44 pm
Interesting: Personally I almost always tended to use the "HD Monster Kick" Buzz generator instead of the FSM Kick XP, but is still fun to see people getting excited about Buzz generators again.
zircon - Mon Apr 28, 2008 3:01 pm
To all the people simply saying "sample it"... that's so boring. It's way more fun to generate it yourself, since you can apply it to synthesizing other sounds.
Anyone want to post their results?

I forget to tell you:
Does anybody know the song Tracking Treasure Down (by Gabriel and Dresden)?
They used the KickXP sound!!
AdamAshleigh - Fri Jul 18, 2008 7:40 pm
You can always just sample a kick from one of his songs. This works well :p Just don't over process it after that :p
kvrajim - Wed Oct 21, 2009 7:05 pm
