child easy listening, I like it I love it, but I'm no Hip-Hop producer,
how's the mix sounding in this mp3?

Thanks to Max el Belga and friends for the rap!

Sounds great! The levels are just choice despite me not knowing what they are saying. Very smooth recording.
Sorta catchy and summery. nice.
rubika - Sat Jul 19, 2008 12:13 am
So it's not windows shutting down finally. The mix is good... Easy to listen, but hard to understand. Wink

Well... I suppose that if I spoke brasilian, that would help.

I think maybe the voice lacks some effects in order to make it more present and integrated in the mix... Don't know which type though... Not a hip hop specialist either.

But Nice work from you and the vocalist !
liqih - Sat Jul 19, 2008 12:34 am
Thanks jazzy and rubika, I will ask WilliamK to translate it, <grin>

anyway beside the meaning of the lyrics I like how the smooth language rols over the laid back groove, I'm fashinated by that and so I missed to add effects.

I like this tune. Great collab guys. I think the mix is fine, unless of course you want it to sound more like thumping hip hop.

Can we have a translation of the lyrics?

Makes me think a bit of G Love, this kind of lazy summery rap:

Glad you like it Vim, no I don't want a "pump up the volume" track, just that it'd be clear at any volume

later I hope so

New stuff to listen too! Thanks

Lovely, smooth sounding mix to me. Nothing too bombastic to take away from the overall feel.

Actually smooth pretty much describes the whole track for me as well, both the music and the rap. Not understanding the lyrics actually adds a layer of mystique to the track as well.

Thanks Steve, I know you did DJing, right? And still got good ears I guess

I hope my ears are still okay Smile I still listen to rap but more for the beats/productions as I now find the whole gangsta rap thing tedious in the extreme. IMO gangsta rap is the worst thing that ever happened to hip hop.

Cool pieces like this are refreshing. I'd love to hear a latin flavour remix of this, sorry that should be a latin flava remix bwoy! Wink

That's really upped the catchiness for sure. You should indie release this - sounds like a summer/beach hit!

Congrats to you + Max + friends!

There's a bit of build up in the lower mids. Look at reducing a bit from the piano or the bass.

The background vocals sound a bit thin, maybe reduce the highs a bit and bring back some of the mids.

Also, I thought at first the rap was recorded backwards. Wink

I could try this weekend but I'll have to ask help to a brazilian friend: some words are "brazilian only" and I don't have a clue what they mean... and it's hip-hop talk, right?...

Ayway, just for a start, the female talk in the beguinning: "Viu, viu, viu?..." translates for "Have you seen, have you seen..." but can also be a contraction of "(ou)viu?" "did you hear?"; the closest meaning is "got it?"

"Mulheres têm interesses diversos, desejos imersos
Querem flores no aniversário junto com versos
no verso do bilhete
E fazem piquetes para os 'órgãos' (?? doesn't make sense but that's how it sounds)
Desodorantes, champô e sabonete

Magali não espera nada disso
Apenas abana o rabo e vira a barriga sem querer compromisso..."

"Women have different interests, immerse desires
They want flowers on birthday, with verses in the back of the card
And they make lines to the 'organs' (?), deodorants, shampoo and soap

Magali doesn't expect anything like that
Just shakes the ass e turns the belly without wanting any commitment..."

More or less like this

The girl says : veo, feo (Spanish); I see, ugly (something ugly).
I've tried to contact the rapper, but his internet seems to be 'off' right now...
Brasilian is very melodic and perfect to sing, because of having the accents on the right place, like in English.

Not knowing the meaning of the words keeps indeed the 'mistery' around it. Wink

Personally I'm more interested in the sounds of the words and the way they're pronounced. Cool That's why I thought at first the guy was rapping about food in the chorus (cotelets and steaks, but those seem to be nick names for girls Surprised ).

I like a lot doing a collab with Liqih; he's got such a fine 'nose' for nice harmonies. It's quiet funny the things we come up with now, having played both guitar on the streets (when we were young and irresitably handsome). HiHi

Cheers,

Max... .. . Razz

Nice tune. But the drums are badly in need of some serious processing, at least if you want this to sound anything like hip hop.

I'm really not the person to critique this as a hip hop masterpiece as I'm no afficionado. However, I really liked this.

As I was listening to it I imagined that the guy was rapping about sun and beach for some reason. Then I read some comments and saw that it was fairly common to associate this song with summer.

I really liked the way the rapping was done, very smooth and laid back and the music suited it really well.

I liked it.

Caleb

Thanks Max so you can call me "chord sniffer" !? <grin>

About: 'Personally I'm more interested in the sounds of the words', that's
often the same to me, I think it's also for I'm from Italy and here we listen
to music in many languages, - as the italian music is mosltly crap -,
of course 90% is english lyrics music, but spanish and french are strong too.
For instance Bod Dylan sold a lot of records in Italy, but almost nobody understod his words!! Funny, I guess, for the americans who are used to listen mostly english lyrics, right?

Anyway, beside that, I love portuguese as spoken in Brasil, and the "rap"
meant as ryhthmic speaking is a natural aspect of samba and capoeira,
if you listen to instruments like berimbao and cuica they do a wordless rap already, (afterall they are mostly africans too like the USA balck ghetto people)

yes I think get what you mean, I processed them simply with some compressor and reverb, as I wrote I'm no hip hop producer, for what I heard so far the drums in hip hop are simply loud and short, <grin>, I mean I don't thing there is a standard hip hop drums sound, is it?

I've added some hip hop drums and a sine bass and cut some of the low end of your track here:

You can find the samples here:

hey it sounds good! At which freq did you filter? LP or BP?

Thanks
mellotronaut - Mon Jul 21, 2008 7:21 am
This is a great song with superb vocals (love especially the whispered ones):
Congrats and bravissimo!

chrimel Well Done

edit: the drums from 'Living Sounds' give an extra punch!
living sounds - Mon Jul 21, 2008 7:27 am
Took out a big chunk around the most prominent frequencies of the kick, which are between 70-150 hz. If you are going to edit your mix I'd rather replace the drums than simply layer them on top. Also, use a different hihat, the one in the mix sounds shrill. Last thing: The bass has a lot of energy below 50 hz, too much so. If I were to work on that song I'd replace the drums, put a a high pass filter on your bass (around 120-140 or so) and add the sine wave sample to get some real low end once in a while.
