Trusty - Sun Apr 26, 2009 9:59 am
By little, I mean, instruments and effects "without bloat".
Here is my list:
Poise
Microtonic
Synplant
One
Dimension LE
Rapture LE
RXP
Everything by Audio Damage.
Voxengo Plug-ins
What are some others that are inexpensive, sound great, and not terribly complicated to use?
kyodeejay - Sun Apr 26, 2009 10:09 am
Poise
Firebird
Devastor
Warmverb
djanthonyw - Sun Apr 26, 2009 10:11 am
The Glue.
softegg - Sun Apr 26, 2009 10:15 am
for fx : AD stuff, especially replicant automaton and bigseq2. + the uhbiks.
for synths it is much more difficult, i use rather the big boys nowadays, but fabfilter one still amazes me.
fandango - Sun Apr 26, 2009 10:33 am
Hydra - simple UI, though plenty to play with, still sounds epic after all these years.
dreaddd - Sun Apr 26, 2009 10:34 am
Oli Larkin's stuff , Delamancha's stuff , Cableguys (2 pluggies and a synth), DDMF (the EQs oh the EQs!), PsychicModulation, DDev Zapfilter, NXTPhase phaser, SinusWeb plugins, Hercs Abakos Pro and im sure im forgetting some other
my 2 cents anyway, maybe (if i forgot some) even only 1.5
Peace

Samplelord - very easy to use sampler with native support of many sample formats, DFD reading and very CPU-friendly. I like Poise too and WTB it (now I have old free beta).
Krakatau - Sun Apr 26, 2009 11:08 am
Bittersweet 2
Kingdubby dub delay
KR-reverb FS
among others (TAL stuffs for instance)
As instr. EXS24 (though i own Kontakt, way quicker load, huge factory presets, easy sample edit mode and instant integration within Logic)

Anything by Ugo and especially Rez 2.0. There are no words to describe how much I adore that sweet little thing.
I just charged my debit card with enough monetary goodness so I can get Metallurgy and M-Theory pretty soon too.

It's really funny when there's a survey like this. I'm sure all of the aforementioned sites (and/or KVR Advanced Search Function) suddenly get hit from all angles with people Googling for information. That's what I did anyway.
mellotronaut - Sun Apr 26, 2009 1:16 pm
stuff from DeLaMancha, Audio Damage, D16 Group, DDMF, Xoxos and Tone2,
Filtershaper, Poise, Ironhead, Live Slice, Cobalt, Voxformer 2, etc.

spacefox - Sun Apr 26, 2009 1:57 pm
GS-201 - a great little tape delay
sfz+ still rocks. Samplelord is very useful as well.
Just got Fabfilter One for 5 Euros, so that counts as well.
Microtonic is pretty amazing, of course.

ZebraCM by Urs is an awesome little freeware (w/purchase of CM mag) gem. I had always respected his other software but this 'lite' version convinced me to buy the big brother. Before that, he offered Zoyd as a free download from his site http://www.u-he.com/ Great software from a great guy.

Pencil.
Paper.
But seriously, WIVI band is incredible for $10 -- if you have an ipod / iphone.

Aether at the current GB price. After living with the demo for a week, this is easily my favorite reverb unit now. And it's simple to use. See the marketplace for the group buy info.
All things Voxengo.
Schwa and Stillwell's stuff. These are all top notch and simple to use. Most of Schwa's stuff is very non conventional but very musical and usable.
AD's Vapor is my secret weapon for sound effects in post production. You can get great swooshes just by blowing into a microphone with Vapor inserted. Whoops! I gave away my secret.
Jeroen Breebart's stuff is a must have for me. He's another one of those DSP geniuses.
herodotus - Sun Apr 26, 2009 7:12 pm
Any and all Naiant microphones.
I mean it, they are the single best value in microphones. Hands down.
hibidy - Sun Apr 26, 2009 7:33 pm
yeah, I don't get the expensive stuff being mentioned
I'll say ext, It's been really good for allot of things.

Hey,
Not a soft, but I just got a korg nanokeys for 150$aus. Little and cheap, it's peachy when your desk is full.
Cheers

I am thinking about getting all of those Korg nano controllers. My K25 is clunky by comparison. I step record notes on my keys and do the rest after anyway, so it isn't like I am really freehanding a lot anyway...

Some of the already-mentioned are indeed great: Naiant microphones are wonderful. Ext is great, and I'll add Renoise for another tool that helps change my workflow in a good way and break some ruts. NanoKey is great, I've been able to get a lot of ideas down wherever I am.
binky johnson - Sun Apr 26, 2009 8:46 pm
Bhajis Loops, Microbe, and a Zire 72 make a great team for sure. I'd probably be workin' it right now had my daughter not smashed my Zire screen a while back. Very complex and unique.
Netbook prices are so low now i think the definitely qualify.
+1 for Audio Damage
+1000 for the Mopho

Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive Pedal
Yamaha NE-1 Nathan East Signature Single-Band Parametric EQ Pedal (So Useful For Slightly Dipping Out Some Mud Playing Live)

16GB USB Stick Flash Drive Pen thing
Roland Micro Cube (Best Mesa Recto Red Channel Modeling Going IMHO, great practice amp)

bought myself a Digitech RP200 for $40. Without knowing anything about it I was surprised it had a built in drummachine and a stereo input for jam through music. With my laptop and guitar plugged into it, its a full jam machine and guitar pedal all in one. best $40 I've spent.
whyterabbyt - Wed Apr 29, 2009 5:45 am
oh, and for hardware, the BugBrand BoardWeevil.
and probably the miniKP I picked up for £40.

1) Synapse Toxic II 2.5 - 49 $ for monstersynth ? It should cost like 99 E ...
2) Novation V-Station - you can get it new from ebay or kvr market for about 30 $
3) Glass Viper - it'll be my next synth. Pretty unique one (35 pounds as far as i remember)
4) Tone 2 Firebird - my next synth after glass viper
Only II oscs but very creative - and hope it'll get cheaper soon hehe
5) Computer Music yearly subscription (via myfavouritemagazines.co.uk) I bought 8-9 months ago. Funny thing - in my country each issue costed like 60 zl (it was about 16-17 EUR and it's a robbery) while the subscription with the shipping costs costed me like 6 - 6,5 EUR :d But overall, very nice magazine (as well as Future Music)
6) Ableton Suite 7 I bought here on kvr for about 300 $
Ok, maybe it's not inexpensive and not a "little thing" but with some luck it's possible to find very good deal

i totally agree on this point, and also, same here: each issue was costing me like 3 issues as price i pay NOW that i m subscribed...
i wish i only realized that time ago, and not after like 5 yrs of buying Future Music from the closer robb..errr..sorry, i meant magazine shop
guys: dont do like me if you buy at least 5-6 issues per year and you are not in the uk...subscribe and for the same price you pay in the country you live youll get the whole year issues...
Peace

My eBow - under a hundred bucks.

Diatonic harmonicas - about $25 each for a Hohner.
loggan2 - Wed Apr 29, 2009 11:06 am
the orion guys did a great job, as it comes with several synths and its very cheap.
i'm also a wusik fan-boy, so you know me, love the wusikstation and wusikeve, both cheap. specially now in the new offer they are doing.
there are other free things i can't live without, but mostly the above. ;-]
