It's amazing how many types of breathing there are, so think of a distressed heavy breathing.
ie heavy/deep but not sexual. Like a horror film type...
And I'm mainly interested in the breathing
in part.
It must start with white noise but how do I get a sucking start to the note?
It seems like the pitch must need to rise faster than the amplitude attack.
And then at the end of the breath theres a sharp release but the pitch needs to move again.
Now I think about it can it even be done with the standard ADSR?

Nor do I... I would lean more towards the techniques employed when creating 'reversed-cymbals'.

My first attempt.
Need to play with the envelopes a bit, but it's getting there.

Really, it's that bad?
Guess I better keep trying.

I would look at
www.karmafx.dk and see what that modular synth can do. It's very flexible in regard to what modulates what.

I use white noise in front of a (Roland) flanger at the start of my track Marigold.
It's slow breathing, but you get the idea.

I have no doubt whatsoever Karma could do this with it's eyes closed.
The sound will eventually be drenched in reverb and hidden right at the back of the track, so I don't want to spend 2 weeks creating it - although it would be very rewarding.

Does sound great mate, but if I'm completely honest I can't hear breathing in it. Just a very thick gorgeous flanger.

try formant filters on the noise source.

Thank you.
The breathing was meant to be lite as if falling asleep, and that i'm sure must be clear.
Sorry, that's all I got.
EDIT: I posted that to show how a flanger can sound like breath. If you were to increase the LFO speed and doctor it to your liking, you might get what your after.

Just changed to a comb filter (same as a formant?) and it made a huge difference.
Getting very close now. Sounds like it's coming from the nose now though, but it's VERY close. I'm hugely impressed with myself LOL
I think a bit of envelope mod and I'm there...
God I love Albino

Comb filters and phasers do have a vocal quality to them but a formant filter is modeled on the human vocal tract. any filter with a lot of peaks and valleys should be appropriate. I believe there are a few free formant filter plugs available. Kontakt has formant filters.

Ok I can hear the "breathing" after the pluck, but TBH I have NFI how to modify the parameters as suggested
EDIT: Playing randomly and am getting VERY close
Mushy Mushy - Fri Dec 03, 2010 2:53 pm
Just swapped back to my Albino version and yours smashes it into oblivion....
Gonna keep playing with this.
BTW my neighbours are going to think I'm having a gay orgy all w/e

I'd cop out and use a sampler
ampman117 - Sat Dec 04, 2010 12:22 pm
Sounds only like exhaling to me....missing inhale part....maybe sample the sound and reverse it for the inhale? Also I listened on my phone, and it sounded like there was too much high end, but that is likely just my phones speakers

How's
this?
White noise with some high+lowpass through two different formant filters + some EQ with the highpass rising toward the end.
