i think i may have brought this up before but i was looking for an mfx plugin but i've given up on that. i still use chorder in nuendo on my laptop and thats great but on v-machine i need something.

s-note-matrix doesnt run on v-machine for some reason, so that one is out. nice concept tho.

a plugin that combined the features of both along with an input output transpose control for playing the same harmony map for a song in a different key if needed.

the basic idea is you select an input note and then select the output notes that will be triggered by that input note, enabling 1 finger chords and voicings.

great thing for windsynth players who want to do entire sections and play chords.

Bump
nym - Thu Dec 15, 2011 9:10 am
and another bump.
i'm finding a scenario where i'm trying to use drum modules in Kontakt, but the pre-defined midi note assignment is not at all what i want to use. rather than painstakingly swapping the sample assignments, i'd like to just convert midi notes to different midi notes...this way i can use my usual pad layout on my MPC to play these drums. otherwise i have to hunt and peck.
insertpizhere - Sat Dec 17, 2011 2:55 pm

I might add a few more features before uploading but everything in the picture is working... Every note can be mapped to zero or more output notes.

Possible additional features would be:
- velocity layers
- set channel and velocity per chord note
- strumming (successive delay per chord note)
- chord name recognition

I'm also planning to make a simple note remapper without chord features or GUI which might be better for this usage.

WOW! Its a Very Piz Christmas around here Smile

Added guessing of chord name. Lots of room for improvement here...

miedex - Mon Dec 19, 2011 1:35 pm
I think this is the kind of plugin that could really benefit from an internal preset saving and browsing system.
insertpizhere - Mon Dec 19, 2011 2:02 pm
Yes it would. Chord voicings and presets will be handled as user-editable files on disk which will be listed in menus in the plugin.
miedex - Mon Dec 19, 2011 2:13 pm
I have a nice bug for you.

http://www.mediafire.com/?44uz2cq9qtof7cq

I mapped some chords and I trigger them from A, G, F in that order, in the sound I first play them slow and separated and it works awesome but then I run them together and each time I do that when I hit the F triggered chord it plays the dry F note.
insertpizhere - Mon Dec 19, 2011 11:07 pm
Ah, sounds like the last two chords are sharing some notes. When they overlap, the note-offs from the first chord are stopping the same notes in the second chord. I can either have it sustain those notes through both chords, or kill and retrigger them...
miedex - Tue Dec 20, 2011 6:22 am
Both of those modes could be valuable so I would vote for the option to switch between them, otherwise I say retrigger.
insertpizhere - Tue Dec 20, 2011 7:48 am
I went with the sustain mode to start with, thinking that if you want to retrigger, you can play staccato. I will make it optional though.
yellukhan - Wed Dec 21, 2011 2:02 am
very nice very useful
thank you so much piz!
insertpizhere - Wed Dec 21, 2011 7:51 am
I added menus for individual chord shapes and whole keyboard mappings. They're saved as simple text files which should be easy to edit by hand... Also added buttons for shifting the chord by octave.

http://thepiz.org/pizmidi/midiChords.zip
http://thepiz.org/pizmidi/midiChords_x64.zip

More possible future features:
- Other views than piano keyboard (guitar/ukulele/banjo neck, etc)
- A button to preview the current chord
miedex - Wed Dec 21, 2011 2:39 pm
Copy/Paste of chords to different trigger notes would be nice. Copy/Paste buttons would look nice next to the Follow Input button.
chardin - Wed Dec 21, 2011 6:56 pm
This is amazing! Thank you very much.
The guitar neck view would be a nice addition.
insertpizhere - Wed Dec 21, 2011 10:20 pm
I was already planning copy/paste, and it was easy enough to add...

The copy/paste buttons use the same format as the saved chords/mappings, so you can copy from the GUI and paste into a text file and vice-versa. Ctrl-click on Paste uses the same pitches as the copied chord, otherwise it's relative to the new trigger note.

http://thepiz.org/pizmidi/midiChords.zip
http://thepiz.org/pizmidi/midiChords_x64.zip
insertpizhere - Thu Dec 22, 2011 11:46 am
I added a text box to type in chords directly. It can read three different formats:
- note names, like "C E G Bb D" for the C9 chord pictured
- interval names, like "1 3 5 b7 9" or "root Maj3 P5 Min7 Maj9" etc.
- semitone offset from trigger note "0 4 7 10 14" (default)

I might not have any more time to work on this for a while, but it would be nice if anyone would like to submit some chord presets...
miedex - Thu Dec 22, 2011 12:00 pm
Maybe announce it in the instrument forum to get some quick bug testing and user presets? With apologies to WOK Embarassed
insertpizhere - Thu Dec 22, 2011 3:12 pm
I usually plan to "finish" my plugins before announcing them anywhere else, but that never actually happens...

Anyway, I just added a play button, support for 128 programs with optional program change listen. I need to put a few more words in the documentation and then I can officially release it.

Also note (also to me, remember to document it) that you can copy a text chord from anywhere, and press "paste" and it will fill it in, without having to use the text box. Fun for learning chord theory from a website and so on...
yellukhan - Thu Dec 22, 2011 6:03 pm
perfect
i want to suggest one thing
some kind of visual feedback to the trigger section for the seeing keys that already triggered would be nice.

edit
one (and a half) more suggestion
the multi channel learn and multichannel play chords .
would be incredible useful (for example with strings section midis)
IMHO

half part is :
again about the visual feedback multichannel chord monitoring
( some kind a tiny 16 leds for the seeing channels activity)
what do you think?

edit2
one bug ( i guess) report
before the sleep
the latest one didn't open the presets that i save with version before the latest one ( im using Reaper's own preset manager btw ).
but interesting thing is my first 5 presets that i was save with 2 earlier version they are works.
now i can go to sleep
insertpizhere - Fri Dec 23, 2011 8:39 am
Channel selection per note is planned. Need to think about how to display/edit it.

When it went from 1 to 128 presets the fxp format changed... if you still have the old version you can save the preset as the ".chords" format which will work in any future version.
yellukhan - Fri Dec 23, 2011 9:11 am
thank you for the answer quickly
hmm per note channel option sounds is interesting ... but
just for the clarification ( because i know my English is perfect HiHi )
i wasn't suggest per note channel selection
for example let say we have strings section midi which is plenty free stuff all over the internet,
ch1 violin
ch2 cello
ch3 viola
ch4 contra bass
in reaper i can assign this multi channel midi to any of the midiChords key with "3" mouse click its that easy!
but midiChords play this chord as a single channel
my suggestion is ability to playback this multichannel chord as it is
and last note:
even this is impossible/hard to do or not worth to work on it..no matter
This Plugin is Amazing too Exclamation
RunBeerRun - Fri Dec 23, 2011 9:14 am
Excellent plugin, I don't have an immediate use for it, still, it's good to know it's out there.

This is exactly what I mean by "per note channel selection." Every note of the chord could be set to a different channel, either manually or from learned input.
insertpizhere - Fri Dec 23, 2011 9:57 am
Another update. Changes:
- Preset ".chords" format now saves the trigger mode (Full/Octave/Global)
- Trigger keys turn green when being played
- Added arrow buttons and editable display for selecting trigger note

sounds great.

i just uploaded a version that can handle multichannel chords. might work, out of time for testing now...
yellukhan - Sat Dec 24, 2011 2:15 pm
ok first test
multichannel didnt work Reaper 4.15pre2 x64 , w7 x64
also learn button stays active after chord entry ,not goes to the off like before
+
new chords merging with existing one
..so far i found.
insertpizhere - Sat Dec 24, 2011 10:14 pm
fixed multichannel learn and made some other changes. i think it's working reasonably well now.

someone can help me please ??? Shit! Help
yellukhan - Tue Dec 27, 2011 4:46 pm
i think i found one bug
3 trigger keys
doesn't keep the notes properly
"" C-2 (0) , C#-2 and D-2 ""
chords have 4 notes ( strings quartet )
C-2 remember only 1 note
C#-2 " " 2 "
D-2 " " 3 "
rest of working good so far i tried

Reaper4 (4.15 pre2) x64 , w7 x64

edit: its same in FL 10 , so not host related i guess
insertpizhere - Wed Dec 28, 2011 3:34 pm
I couldn't reproduce any problem like that... is it transposing some notes below note 0 or something?
yellukhan - Wed Dec 28, 2011 4:37 pm
i made a little video to showing
i don't know why this happening
______
problem solved
link removed
insertpizhere - Thu Dec 29, 2011 11:30 am
ok, thanks. found it and fixed it, i hope. i had to change the patch format again... when you load a project in the new version it should convert it, but this wasn't tested thoroughly.
yellukhan - Thu Dec 29, 2011 1:12 pm
Thank you trigger keys are ok now.

after the quick test :

presets that i saved with Reaper's preset manager are dead
Reaper crashing if i choose one of them.
( but no problem i have fxp + fxb backup saves already)

Projects loading time takes a little longer but this is also no problem
because after saving with this new version it becomes to the normal.

FXB loading is ok ( takes time but np. i think its same converting thing as like with the projects)

last one
(also np to me its just a little thing that i noticed)
is FXP loading, they are loads nothing ..comes empty.

so actually i can say that : it works great so far i tested
insertpizhere - Thu Dec 29, 2011 1:47 pm
I added code to convert old fxp. I forgot to save an old fxp to test with but hopefully it works... I'll try not to change the format again.
yellukhan - Thu Dec 29, 2011 2:39 pm
fxp load issue still same
miedex - Thu Jan 05, 2012 11:13 pm
It would be nice to be able to change the velocity of the "Play Chord" button. Maybe hovering over the button and using the mouse wheel could change it?
insertpizhere - Fri Jan 06, 2012 9:25 am
I added a velocity knob next to the Play Chord button and fixed some other minor things.

miedex - Fri Jan 06, 2012 11:20 pm
Thanks. Maybe right clicking the play chord button could latch it like on midiKeyboard?

I just noticed the demo mark. Is there any timeouts or anything?
insertpizhere - Sat Jan 07, 2012 7:08 am
I can do that, but you won't be able to change the chord while it's playing yet...

There are no demo restrictions at this point.

thx for the cool endorsement proggie Wink

i think i found a bug. mappings saved to a .chord file are not correct.
when i save them as an .fxp file they are though.

here is a zip with the .chords and the .fxp file

http://www.mediafire.com/?880ydwvepcwbz6r

also included is my extended chords.txt. it probably helps finding the
reason why the saved mappings are not identical ?!

Yikes... Thanks for reporting that. I mixed up some variables when adding multichannel chords. It's fixed now.

Your Chords.txt will also help me improve the chord recognition algorithm, and would be useful to others as well... Do you mind if I include it with the download?

the chords.txt was made quite fast, too. i am not sure that everything

any change to make it default "127" for the opening oldies?

insertpizhere - Thu Jan 12, 2012 9:44 am
I read the original request again and realized what "an input output transpose control for playing the same harmony map for a song in a different key if needed" meant...

Version 1.0.3 now has an option for this. It might be a little confusing as it is now... When you check "Also transpose input" it transposes the input by the reverse of the output setting.

For example:
You have a mapping set up in the key of C. You want to use it for a song in Bb. Set Transpose to -2, and turn on "Also Transpose Input." Then you can play notes in Bb, and midiChords will shift them up to C for triggering, then back down to Bb at the output. Without "Also Transpose Input" on, you would play in C and it would output in Bb.

I also added importing of Steinberg Chorder presets. You can put them in the mappings folder to show them in the presets menu, or load by drag & drop.
yellukhan - Thu Jan 12, 2012 12:21 pm
two more suggestion
one of them is old one :
transpose with mouse wheel + -1 semitone , now its + - 5
second is :
send notes in order low to high to channels - maybe with - starting from option .

HiHi ok i know i never stop.
insertpizhere - Thu Jan 12, 2012 1:15 pm
The mouse wheel thing is because of the larger transpose range in midiChords, but maybe +/-12 semitones is better anyway...

I don't quite understand the second suggestion. You mean automatically splitting up the chord between channels?
yellukhan - Thu Jan 12, 2012 1:39 pm
oh yes automatically split chord notes to the channels
....
Thank you for the new transpose with mousewheel !
insertpizhere - Sat Jan 21, 2012 8:45 am
Does putting midiPolyphony after midiChords give you the desired effect?

I was trying midiStrum with it to get strumming. That needed some fixes to work right, so I've updated the pizmidi packages.
yellukhan - Sat Jan 21, 2012 4:15 pm
yes you are right.
my thought was just a guess and it wasn't actually a suggestion or request...
i was thinking : midiChords already has all the note information so maybe it would be more efficient way than the real time process

anyway no big deal , as i said i was thinking at loud ...nothing more .

Thank You .
mrdr - Sat Jan 21, 2012 4:36 pm
So there is always added "0" to the chord?
Defined -12 3 7 ,but it's loaded as -12 0 3 7.
It's the same in the User.txt and if using mappings.
insertpizhere - Sat Jan 21, 2012 8:04 pm
Thanks, fixed now in version 1.0.10.
yellukhan - Sat Jan 28, 2012 9:12 am
hi Piz

midiChords visually freezes the Reaper
normally there is no problem
but if i want to automate ( with track envelope ) Transpose of midChords
and if the midichords plugin window open, Reaper freezing visually (plugin window not freezing)
when i close the plugin window reaper turns back to normal

W7 64bit
Reaper 4 (64bit)
midiChords 1.0.11 (64bit)
insertpizhere - Sat Jan 28, 2012 1:16 pm
Thanks, will be fixed in the next version (Trying to get the guitar neck usable enough before releasing it).
insertpizhere - Sat Feb 04, 2012 4:36 pm
New version with guitar view is up, see this post in the Instruments forum.
miedex - Sun Mar 11, 2012 6:05 pm
It would be neat to be able to slide the chord up or down by one note. Perhaps holding down shift and touching a key on the chord keyboard would slide the chord to start with that key.
miedex - Tue Mar 13, 2012 9:31 am
How about a readout box for the trigger note keyboard that shows you what chord you are inputting live on the keyboard so this plugin could double as a simple chord readout.
Tony Ostinato - Sat Mar 24, 2012 11:37 am
i'm mad at myself for not having loaded this up and messed with it yet but its been hectic.

but today found out we're doin "party rock" at next weekends gig so i gotta map up some synth harmonies and that reminded me.

i read midichords can import harmony maps from cubase/nuendo's chorder and i was wondering if after having imported them and edited them , perhaps to globally change input/output key, you could then export them back into the presets for chorder and use them in nuendo/cubase.

that would really help me since im locked into having to use chorder because of how nuendo/cubase are routed.

thanks!!!!
Tony Ostinato - Mon Apr 09, 2012 5:01 pm
sadly i couldnt get it to load into v-machine, it just hangs.

ill probably mess around with it in reaper.
Tony Ostinato - Sat Apr 14, 2012 6:03 pm
well well well....

i could easily do 3 pages of gushing here but ill try and keep it short and to the point.

with chorder and nuendo id gotten used to the fact that occasionally theres voice stealing and dropped notes doing harmonies from the windsynth and id worked hard at learning when you have to tongue notes to get them all to sound and special soft legato tonguing to sound as much like slurring as possible when slurring wont work.

all sorts of extra crap to try and workaround a problem i thought id never get around fully.

so, heh, i finally sit down to test midichords and im using reaper and i dont know who to blame or credit here but with reaper and midichords everything is perfect, all the time.

and it made me decide to switch over to reaper and midichords for live, which is a huge deal. i have to convert the whole nuendo setup ive been building for like 4 years, using like a hundred chorders for various songs.

so i figured id wait till i was at least halfway thru that to post this, and now i am.

everything sounds so much better and so much more musical and i love being able to freely slur and have all the voices move perfectly just as i want them.

and im so grateful for the nuendo chorder map import, id still go thru with this if it wasnt there but itd take so much longer. as it is i hope to maybe take this on fridays gig, if not that one then the next one after. theres no going back now.

so, this jurys verdict is midichorder rocks all the way, perfect score. thank you so mcuh.

and now that im in reaper ive been able to use midipbcurve which is also awesome for windsynth use.

great software piz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Shocked Love
Tony Ostinato - Wed Apr 18, 2012 8:14 pm
im noticing loading in lots and lots of midichords and pbcurve instances is maxing out my memory, any way to optimise it?

edit: i notice deleting 10 midichords from my project freed up 4 megs.

midipbcurve seems to take a bit less.

it takes quite awhile to load the project with so many midichords and midipbcurves loaded, something like 5 minutes.
Tony Ostinato - Sun Apr 22, 2012 12:13 am
i hope insertpizhere is ok, hes been gone for a bit now...
Maddcow - Wed May 23, 2012 4:09 pm
Piz, would you consider doing a Mac OSX version of this plugin? There are a lot of Mac users who'd love this.
insertpizhere - Sat May 26, 2012 6:02 am
I was almost done with an update for this (I think???) but got too busy with other stuff...

More news coming "soon."
Tony Ostinato - Sat May 26, 2012 5:03 pm
color me overreaction. very very very glad youre ok.

my live rig has sorted itself pretty much now, im using something like 4 midiPBcurves and a dozen or so midichords. i run them as dedicated processes on the properties in the fx window and that seemed to clear up all the issues i was having. i probably only needed to do that because the setup takes so much ram anyways. now it loads in a minute or so which was comparable to my nuendo setup and i have more ram leftover once its loaded.

i made a bank of 10 midichords tracks that i route to and they route to the 10 vsti's i use and ive been using your midiprogramchange on the "preset" tracks to set them all to the right maps. works great.

one thing about midi program change is that i use it to trigger off for instance program 46 when i hit the top one of the 2 unused keys on my yamaha wx5 windsynth. i set the plugin program change number to 46 on the top. this works great.

what id like is to then be able to use the other key to increment program change to 47-48-49 etc etc, which ive also been able to do no problem..

..the thing is then id like to be able to hit that top key and have it return me to 46 again. it seems to just retrigger whatever ive incremented to...

also i was thinking of maybe the possibility for a "rotate" mode in midichords:

http://www.ewilogic.com/shop/harmonic-xpander-v1-0/

http://www.ewilogic.com/shop/logic-xpanded-harmonic-rotator-v1-0-lite/

again, im glad youre doin ok. phew.

btw midiPBcurve is awesome at making the wx5 behave like a trumpet. deep thanks for that plugin!!!

Hi, great plugin !

I'm trying it in Studio One and have a problem.

When activating strum it only strums on the root note even if it is set to "Global"
Is that intended ?
insertpizhere - Tue Aug 28, 2012 12:20 pm
Definitely not intended; it's supposed to work the same way as when strumming is off. Fixed now in v1.2.1. Thanks for the report!

Thanks, will try the update asap Smile

it seems midi chord can't play fast notes anymore is there any quantization going on?

i'm using it on windows 7 here.
insertpizhere - Wed Aug 29, 2012 7:37 am
What exactly is going wrong? Skipped notes, stuck notes? If strumming is not on, it shouldn't affect the timing at all. With strumming, the first output note should be in time with the input note.
t3toooo - Wed Aug 29, 2012 3:00 pm
when loading a default instance of the new midi chord, notes are skipped.
seems like it is only playing fourths and 8ths.
loading a default instance of the previous midi chords version, everything is working.

donated, thank you for amazing product

some requests for future please

copy chord- can this feature copy last played chord, so that you don't have hold the chord to copy it.

midi chord analyzer - can you think about a feature that will disable 'midi thru' and only play recognized chords - great to play full chords while only pressing enough keys to make a recognition.

a little difficult to view the about (?) info. Perhaps mouse wheel support?

Better indication on the GUI of when a chord is stored and on which key. I don't see any indication of this (cubase).

Get some stuck chords often, Panic button?

Possible to only list chords compatible with specific Key Mode Scales?

New 'Strum modes' just some random thoughts:
- finger style?
- keyboard chords? (two hand techniques?)

Chord Guess is not as accurate as MidiChordAnalyzer. No problem though I can setup both to work together.

cheers

trying out the latest midichords x64 1.2.2 i get stuck notes like crazy, seems like everything sticks.

went back to 1.0.11 and its fine.

this is in reaper x64 using yamaha wx5 windsynth so theres breath controller going on as well as pitch bend so maybe something about multiple overlapping cc's throwing off note offs.

i dont have a clue really. i run maybe 2 dozen midichords in my setup so maybe having a lot loaded is throwing off something.

just initial gut feeling is something is wrong with note off messages maybe.

pure speculation.
