Exactly my thought Mr Hib - I think my post count might take a wee hit in a month's time.. I noticed that I'd slipped from 28th to 32nd the other day - I'd better get posting in places other than here!

Yes, I would think a thread lock would preserve posts rather than delete them.
But then these interwebz don't make much sense to me sometimes, so what do I know?

Croissants -- there's something miles past my baking skill level. Someday maybe. Until then I have to settle for crescent rolls without the super-flakiness that comes from feuilles interspersed with beurre.

I had a good night of rest here...the little Spring spent all night cuddled up between Audrey and I.
Now, thinking...inner tubing down the Thames River here from Fanshawe Dam to the Jet d'eau at the Forks must be a fun little voyage...

And when they pass, we in turn pass their lifeless corpses through crowds gathered in the streets, like a giant doobie in a Cheech & Chong movie. Good times.

To the KVR member whose complaint I spent over three hours yesterday dealing with, from whom I haven't heard since: You're welcome. Think nothing of it.
Going to be metaphorically upriver for a while myself but unlike the Elysian threads I should be back. I'll try to reply to PMs and keep an eye out for spammers and such.

Mostly not having the time to go down to one of the many coffee places where I could buy a decent cup of coffee I guess.
Don't remember the brand of this stuff, but I know I've never seen it anywhere else.

Woke up at 4am this morning to the cat going nuts and found a fire in the living room. Luckily I had an extinguisher handy so I was able to put it out quickly. The fire was small but there was a lot of damage. I'm this close to having a nervous breakdown (holding fingers very close together). Most of our wedding photos got burned, part of our couch, the TV, stereo and all the electronics, a lot of our books got damaged... it's just a mess in there.
After we got done with the police and fire people this morning, I just had to leave. I'm at work right now, unable to concentrate on anything. When we moved to our new place, I never renewed our renters insurance. I don't know where we are going to stay until the repairs are done. All I can do is vent but it doesn't feel very therapeutic. I wish I could go take a nap; I'm so tired but the day is just starting.

Shit Justin that's terrible. If I was near enough to you I'd offer to help out somehow, but not sure what I can do this far away.
Any idea what started it? Even without renters insurance, maybe someone is liable for the damage - maybe a contractor screwed up the electrics in the place? More hassle with suing, etc. but you might at least be able to recoup losses if someone was responsible.
Just remember you have friends online, here and elsewhere.

Yeah, I'd offer to put you guys up but I'm already putting up another friend down on his luck and I'd wager I'm not terribly convenient either being in OC regardless. Wish I could help more.
justin3am - Fri Jun 10, 2011 8:58 am
Don't worry about it guys. I have a lot of family in the area and they are all rallying to help. Brit's family in South OC has offered help as well. In fact Brit is dealing with the flood of family support, which is stressful in it's own way.
We think the cat may have started it by peeing on the surge protector that our TV and stuff was connected to. She has bladder problems and can't control when and where she pees. Normally we try to keep her away from electronics but we can't do that 24hrs a day. The power was out when we woke up and the damage makes it look like it started from that surge protector (which is a high quality Furman job). We'll see what the official reports turn up though.
The owner of the building has good insurance but I don't think it anything to do with the occupants, just the property. I'm not sure... I have a lot of calls to make. The worst thing was loosing the wedding pictures. We spent a long time compiling pictures, not just from the wedding but from when Brit and I were in high School together. It's just breaking our hearts.

Probably not likely as any short would be very brief and not hot enough to ignite anything. Most electrical fires start because of cabling rated below code being used or loose wiring connections routed through flammable material. If it was an electrical fire, I'm pretty sure the cat didn't cause it.
justin3am - Fri Jun 10, 2011 9:45 am
Well, we know now that there are only three outlets in the apartment that are properly grounded and most of the outlets have nothing connected to the ground lead at all.

The ones that are properly grounded are all in my office/studio... I did the wiring in there myself.
There is still no official word on what started the fire, though they are fairly certain it was electrical.

Man, it sucks to hear that. Especially when I know you're under a lot of stress as it is. So many of my friends (highly skilled/experienced people) either have lost their jobs or have had their hours cut by companies that don't really understand the value of their workers. Hang in there Deb.

I dream a lot and I love it, I use to keep a journal...often I'll wake up several times and then return to dreams. I know when I'm dreaming and will wake myself up if something happens in a dream I dont like. For instance the common dream of trying to get somewhere but you can't, I will wake myself up if I'm 'lost' and start over. I'm reading a book now called 'Listening in Dreams' dubbed 'A handbook for deep dreamers'.

Ever been on Chantix?
My god...I hated waking up every day. Those dreams we reality itself. I didn't realize I was dreaming, but I wanted to stay in those dreams and never wake up.
Not a good thing. I generally slept about 14 hours a day on that damn med.

I was not aware of such things. I sleep ALLOT, but even 14 hours is tough. Just to quit smoking? Sounds lousy
trimph1 - Sat Jun 11, 2011 2:57 am
That almost sounds like sleep meds for pete sake....
This morning was interesting...we had a bit of a commotion outside..someone was trying to break into the driveshed....turned out to be one of our neighbours cows....

thanks for the hugs.I missed them yesterday cuz I also had to take my dog to the new animal hospital for x-rays.
good news tho.nothing in the lungs. our regular vet must have an old x-ray machine.
Doug1978-OLD - Sat Jun 11, 2011 11:14 am
Glad to hear about the good dog news DILF
- I'm now thinking how once every while there comes a tv show that really stands out from the rest.
That program for me is 'The Shadow Line' on BBC2:
www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0111dqc
It's a genius cliff-hanger with murders, police corruption and good guys doing bad (and bad girls doing worse).
I know some of you here like BBC dramas - The Shadow Line, imo, is the most gripping since Life on Mars.

A fresh Sunday morning just before 11, pint of Peroni on the go, Spiritualized album playing softly in background, making a few last tweaks to my new dub tune.
Jolly nice :d

Many thanks for dealing with that issue, and the cool help.
Best wishes mate.

I'm no Thor, that's for sure. Mjölnir is supernatural, having been crafted by the Svartálfar. Mefjölnir is a standard janitorial banhammer, the kind anyone can buy at their local home center in the cleaning-products aisle -- ask for the Estwing 268-BH3-6LB hand sledge.

The official word is that the fire started because of faulty wiring. Our land lord has been very cool about the whole situation, he's paying for our hotel room until we can move back in. It shouldn't take too long because there is no structural damage but it sounds like they are going to rewire the whole building.
Our landlord's insurance company has agreed to pay for some of our damaged property, which is very cool. Unfortunately they can't replace any of the personal stuff we lost. Brit has a small collection of first edition books that we thought were damaged, it turns out the soot is coming off with a dry towel. We were pretty lucky this time. I re-upped our renters insurance so we don't have to rely on luck in the future.
