What I'm understand is this isn't a complicated thing at all (yes I watched the viddy) but still not entirely clear.
What it looks like is you are not stuck. For my needs, I really only want to activate (IF I buy any) on one computer. So the "computer a" looks to be the best option. It appears that if I want to move those to usb, that is not a problem. It also appears that if your computer goes down, you can simply reactivate even if it's not connected to the net. Am I wrong about this?
Also, if I do want to use them on one more computer it looks as though it's a simple matter of moving them to a usb device and just using that. There even seems to be mention that you can have more than one?
One last question, if you were interested in just one plug (49-100 buck), is the wup something I seriously need to consider since the version I'm using is the one I expect to work?
thanks!

Point 1
you are right
Point 2
you are right
Point 3
after you bought a new plug, you automatically get a wup for one year
you would not need to buy a new wup if you do not change your system and all is working fine

Wait wait wait... did they change the WUP plan this way?
If so, this would definitely look more attractive to me:
buy a new plugin and/or update/crossgrade and bam - automatically WUP for another year.
Now if they'd offer a smaller fee for just an engine update (and therefore WUP as well), then we're talking. I'm eyeing certain tools for a while now but hesitated due to WUP.

V9 is a whole new version, not just an engine upgrade.(x64-non iLok)
WUP has always been coverage for a year, some cases more depending on how many you licenses you have & when they expire.

Still, if you pay a smaller fee just for WUP every other year or so, that would definitely work.
Then again, I'm not complaining. Looks like Waves stepped into a new game. It's just "wait and see" at the moment how it turns out.

It depends on how many plugs you have. It's capped at $200.00 per machine.

Waves certainly can't deny that they're short on money.

Waves plugs are over 10 years old. Aside from x64 compatibility and new formats like AU what is the need for constant updating?
After all this time these old plugs should be rock solid.

They are solid & any bug fixes were always free for the version you had.
I only remember one bug since owning them for years.

no, waves HAVE plugins that are 10 years or more old. They release new stuff all the time mate.

It's hard to believe that even though I'm no longer drinking I wrote that opening line.
Anyways, if it hasn't been hammered into the minds of the young yet, allow me to repeat some things from another thread:
-you cannot sell anything resale unless you have the wup (strike one)
-you MUST have the wup to get support (which I guess if you buy something, you get a wup with it for a while/year??...still unclear) (even still, strike two)
-reaper is not supported.........(go take a shower ya bum!)
So after waiting forever to be a position to be able to use waves, I have to take my business elsewhere anyways*
*I have to have renbass, but I'll not be demoing anything else! (I can handle 50 bucks)

Bought H-EQ when V9 released, does indeed comes w a year of WUP (my 1st plug from Waves).

Thanks. I got all these short UN-informitve responses from waves. (seriously weird)
Renbass is mine. Too bad they don't support the reap or I'd have gotten SSL maybe too.
Dean Aka Nekro - Fri Mar 23, 2012 6:30 pm
Chris my friend, The SSL Collection (actually all of the Waves plug-ins i have) work fine in REAPER FWIW man incase you do decide to demo in the future. I did not know that REAPER was not supported but I have not had any issues when using the two together
*Obviously I do not use REAPER as my main DAW or even second DAW so its highly likely if there are problems, I will not of run into any. Time will tell the more I use REAPER I guess, I had to get a REAPER license as it was far too good VFM to not do so and it might be my goto eventually since I am not planning on doing further business with AVID for Pro Tools as much as I love/am used to it as my goto engineering/multi-tracking/mixing application*
hibidy - Fri Mar 23, 2012 6:38 pm
I did demo it.
-weird cpu issues (nothing major, just strange behavior)
-slow/sluggish meters in with 3 or more ssl plugs open
-hanging on closing (unless the buss comp was closed)
-zipper sound when looping certain thing with buss comp being used.
Too bad too because it really would have been a fab solution, but the good news is it got me thinking about that solution and I may be on to something.
Since they just told me "sorry charlie" when I asked about the issues I'll live w/o but renbass is mine. That is a magic plugin.......I'll eat the 50 bucks if it starts causing issues.

I am not on v9 yet, I do on this laptop have some GUI problems now and then. This laptop is not my audio machine though and only for light stuff/demos/ideas plus all other puter related stuff. Upgrading the audio machine at the moment actually, Can not wait to have pure raw power on tap as my current one is long in tooth. I am holding back from any updates and buys until I got it sorted. Pleased to hear RBass is turning tricks for you man, I use it often on DI'd bass tracks mostly but it has come in really handy other places also (kickdrum bussing and surprisingly low-tuned "djent"-ish br00tal electric guitars even). It will love your ibby bass i can say for certain
All the best and speak again soon mate
Dean
