Big Blue Compressor is new. Laughing

The spec looks great, will get the demo ASAP.

First impressions are good. It goes nicely from mild to slammed, and the sound is naturally warm. I think it's missing a couple of things though. It's nice to have auto attack/release, though they are very easy/obvious to set manually. Also it only does mid or side, not both with different settings. You have to use 2 instances to do full/true mid/side processing.

The pricing is consistent with the other products and the quality hasn't changed (IMO). Also the copy protection is great.

I don't know if this is a completely new development, or a transition (since their very sad loss), but it's still very much 112dB quality.
Sequent - Fri Apr 06, 2012 8:39 am
There is special introductory pricing which I think it 1/3 off what the price will be. Is there a demo version up yet?

I was seriously considering picking up RComp from Waves and this would initially cost me a bit more. At the same time I'm happy to support 112db instead, especially as they try to keep the company going and as I really like the other products that I have from them!

It's good to see a new release from 112db, will check it out asap

I don't think we will see news from here sadly

"Jules Vleugels (a.k.a. dj!) founder of 112dB, passed away on 23 January 2011. Programmer/researcher with an extensive background in professional audio software design as well as a Ph.D. in computer science. His work with established companies like Audio Ease (on Altiverb and Speakerphone) and Camel Audio (Alchemy) brought to 112dB an eye for superb audio quality and innovative interface solutions."

This is a new product, Jules wife took over the running of 112db after his sad death.

Actually, Nousch posted here yesterday on a different thread to confirm that this was coming out. We should all spread the word about the Blue Compressor and I wish the company all the best. Jules set a high standard with the products that he created and it would be wonderful to see the company succeed and to see further development on some of the existing lines.

Yes I agree!
Igro - Fri Apr 06, 2012 12:24 pm
I just demoed it. And it's a REALLY good compressor. Look ahead function is brilliant and can remove unpleasant attacks' transients. Drive adds a nice colour( better say - add more colour). I'm really impressed with this one. It makes 909 kicks so soft, warm but still nicely rounded. I have a feeling that i will buy it. If anybody know some compressors that sound similar, let me know.
Bronto Scorpio - Fri Apr 06, 2012 12:38 pm
Really, really nice to see something from 112db again! I wish them all the best!
I'll download the demo asap!
A 60 day fully functional demo! That's how I like it! *looks at tone2 saurus demo* HiHi

Cheers
Dennis

Actually I was thinking about 112db several days ago, will they be able overcome and I'm so glad they are back after Jules passed away!
nouschbusch - Fri Apr 06, 2012 11:48 pm
Thanks for all your support! It took some time, but we wanted to come back with something really good. Hope you'll think it is too. The Big Blue Compressor was kind of a test case for us if we would be able to develop new plugins within Jules framework. And now we are convinced we can. But first we have to take care of some updates. 64-bit version for the Reverb is next in line.
filter303 - Sat Apr 07, 2012 2:04 am
I can't believe that only one people has commented the sound so far. I wasn't looking to buy myself another compressor, but after testing this I can't do nothing else but to add it to my shopping list. I love the smooth drive of this compressor. The way it can pump the synth bass with longer attack times is amazing. Only thing in the vst land that I know that does something similar is AA CL series compressors. Big blue works really well on the edm drumbus (don't know anything about acoustic drums). It works just as well on single channels. The only thing I don't like it so far is the masterbus. Just for the record, I prefer cytomic glue and elysia alpha for the masterbus. I am rarely impressed by compressor plugins as I find that most of them sound very similar to each other. This is not the case with Big Blue. It can do tons of gain reduction and still sound good.

I can't wait what you guys are bringing out next. Thumbs up!
Cool
dickiefunk - Sat Apr 07, 2012 2:15 am
I love the sound of this compressor. Have used it on acoustic drums and it sounds great!!
Igro - Sat Apr 07, 2012 4:02 am
what ^^^ they said. really cool and unique comp. I thought I'm already covered with comps....
I found it best on tracks rather than buses.
sonicpowa - Sun Apr 08, 2012 4:15 pm
This is absolutely brilliant track compressor. Love
Great work 112dB! I'm not sure I like the GUI though, it's like wearing yellow eyeglasses all the time. Very Happy

I'm having lot's of expenses on the way, so unfortunately can't even think about getting this little sweet thingy, but I'm so glad you guys overcame this tragedy. Redline reverb is by far my most favorite reverb, use it all the time. I really wished your company recovered and here we go! Smile Love you guys...

first to 112,

a sincere and warm welcome back!

what i am demoing is definitely different to what is on 112 page and on kvr news page screenshot, i have no choke function, the gui is missing a few buttons,

i have no sidechain, monitor, rms or peak buttons, and all the dials are placed in different spots to the screenshot.

downloaded only a little while ago, mac vst 32 bit in studio one
filter303 - Sun Apr 08, 2012 10:18 pm
Many plugins have beautiful GUI's but sound ugly. I prefer it the other way around Smile
But I definitely agree that the GUI could be much better. The dirty yellow looks like someone has been smoking cigarettes inside my virtual studio HiHi
But the main thing for me is the way it sounds. And this is where this plugin delievers.

I am very glad that the demo perioid is 60 days. It's certainly enough for me to get get really familiar with this compressor, and to also see if it's actually being used in any projects.
I wish more companies had demos like this.

You are completely right. That was an old beta version that someone had mistakenly named 1.0.0 and everybody totally forgot about, but apparently was still somewhere on the site. Unfortunately computers don't forget Sad I've corrected the mistake. You can download the right version here:

Many many apologies, and thanks for mentioning this,

How about an alternative GUI something like this for instance:
(quick and brutal mockup. knobs need a bit color)

filter303 - Mon Apr 09, 2012 7:59 am
This one looks much better to me Wink
sonicpowa - Mon Apr 09, 2012 8:07 am
Thanks!
112db folks, please feel free to use that as a starting point if it's good enough. Smile
nouschbusch - Mon Apr 09, 2012 8:20 am
Nice! We definitely intend to add some alternative skins, so good ideas are more than welcome!

haha, I totally fell for it. Was like "wtf, what is all this big blue talk?" Embarassed

Nice to see them back.

ok working now:)

i actually think the gui is beautiful.

Don't know what the complaints are about.

Anyway this sounds really nice, i have a huge arsenal of dynamics these days but i would buy it if it was 64 bit mac Sad

Lot's of fun to use no doubt with a nice rich sound

Hi, i think L3V3LL3R from the developer Platinumears can be tweaked to sound really similar to Big blue compressor (that is a really great compressor btw!!)
Try it in mode II Smile

Yeah I think the same

+ another. I love the way it looks! Don't need another compressor.......demoing anyways HiHi
filter303 - Mon Apr 09, 2012 9:22 pm
I have a small but very useful feature request for 112db:
This compressor really needs a switch to disable the autogain that happens when you adjust the threshold for example. I am experiencing a lot of clipping when I tweak the settings and I find this very frustrating. I have never seen a product that has an autogain that works in every situation.

BTW.. "I don't need another compressor" is exactly what I have been thinkin too before I've tried a few products. It's dangerous to try plugin demos these days.
osiris - Tue Apr 10, 2012 4:42 am
I think the GUI is quite nice.

Ahh... that's why I was struggling with the gain settings... Confused
