Since my last post (
http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=4869971#4869971) I have not had a lot of time to play my MIDI piano but when I do get a chance, I cannot seem to consistently get any sound through my PC speakers. I'm using the ASIO4ALL driver and I seem to be spending more time digging around in my settings more than I am playing and, frankly, I'm sick of it! So.....
I'm thinking about buying an M-Audio Audiophile 2496 PCI interface. I found a new one on AmazonPrime for $62 with free 2-day shipping.

Do y'all think this will alleviate my sound problems? I know I am going to have to invest in some cabling but that's a really negligible aspect of the issue.
As always, I'm deeply grateful for all constructive comments, thoughts and suggestions!

I have this interface for about 3 years and i can happily say its been rock solid! The price is a bargain and no more asio4all.

It may very well be your usb setup. not all midi to usb cables are created equal. I got an emu one that was torment. However my turtle beach midi to usb cable worked great.

Thanks so much Jethrobull & Tapper Mike!!
I hope this will be the solution for playing "live" just using a VST plugin since I am still a "beginner" level piano player.
I knew this was going to be an eventual purchase but I can't pass up this price and, as I said, I cannot stand chasing down whatever ridiculous varying issue that has popped a hamstring in ASIO4ALL on any given day.
I'm glad y'all have experience with this interface, etc.. I know I'll have a ton of questions once I get it and get it installed. Hope you won't mind if I pick your brains a bit!
Thanks so very much again!!

P.S. After reading the reviews on this card, I can't wait to hear how Metallica's "Black Album" sounds through my Klipsch ProMedia 4.1 400w RMS Multimedia speaker system!! Everyone says that this card's sound quality simply blows away every other card they've had for playback and performance.
From what I read, I may have to dump my rear speakers but, bummer that may be, I can't hear them now anyway. I've had these speakers nearly 15 years but even with the crappy onboard audio chip to which they are currently connected, they sound damn good!

Your very welcome.

I hope it serves you as well as it has me.

I believe this is a known issue with Windows 7 and Realtek soundcards. My XP laptop with Asio4ALL has none of these problems.
If no other applications are utilising the soundcard then it tends to work but if you have anything in the background like a browser, media player or anything triggering a Windows sound then there is no sound through asio.
I got so fed up with it that I went back to my old XP laptop which works absolutely fine, albeit slower.
Would love to get a fix on this because its not always convenient plugging in an external soundcard.
