It's a big improvement on 1 imo but you must try for yourself! Very Happy

There's no 64-bit, right?

There will be (well there already is, but there's a lot of work needed to have something which is releasable), and in the meantime, it does work fine in a bridge.

I tried the demo, and it has a great sound quality, unison is nice, preset browser is way better, etc.

For me, the price is a little high for an upgrade.
You can almost get a whole different synth for that much $$.

sure...they've been promising 64 bit implementation for other products for a long time. it's just not happening. even on their webpage they are too lazy to update it. it says something like, "64 bit support coming in 2011!". i wouldn't touch any of their products and have already unloaded my VSM Strings, which were outclassed by Loomer Stringer and others anyway.

Why are some products so much slower to go 64-bit? It's a cross platform product so I wouldn't expect it's written in much (if any) assembly. Does DSP code get more affected by "bit-ness" than other code? It seems like some cases involve a recompile (because the compiler & programming language do all the heavy work) and maybe a few bug fixes, while others get reported as being huge efforts by developers. If a developer isn't actively rebuilding, say, a mixing engine from 32-bit math to 64-bit, I mean, what's the issue?

As it happens, my current issue is porting my assembler optmizations and properly regression testing them.

Before that there was the problem that in switching to 64bits Apple decided to completely drop Carbon (this was a completely arbitrary decision on their part), which meant moving all graphics code to Cocoa.

Other things have also been dropped by Apple, which means rewriting those parts.

And in all honesty, I'm one guy with a lot on his plate, porting imp 2 to 64bits is not the only thing in my life, either professionally or personally. For a start bugs take priority (the imp has been pretty good in this respect since release, but even one bug can take a lot of tracking down).

I'd much rather be working on something new, interesting, and hopefully profitable, so it's in my interest to get this port finished as soon as possible, it's coming.

The website has been updated, it's not that they were too lazy, it's that they'd actually forgotten to update that piece of text (two guys with a lot to do.. and they are getting a little old Wink )

You'll see that if you're on PC then VSM and MTron Pro betas are available, and both PC and Mac for Minimonsta, if anyone wants to try them, contact GForce.

It's not like people are sitting on their arses twiddling their thumbs, work is ongoing and continuous, but when they orginally wrote in the FAQ they underestimated the work required (easy to do, some bits of moving to 64 bits happen really quickly), and other issues have come up in the meantime that needed dealing with at a higher priority, for example I know thwre was some problem which appeared on the latest Lion update which the developer had to switch to finding and fixing (keeping existing customers going take priority).
