Lets say:
Submissions may not contain any watermarks or similar
..what does that mean?

It means that your recording must be free of all audible traces of 'this is owned by me' because they want submissions "cleared" (which usually means whatever you send them they own).

I thought a watermark was the line on your equipment that shows how high the water in your basement rose during the last big storm.
