TSC - Wed Jan 23, 2013 9:59 pm
Hey there KVRers - you guys have a special place in the circle of Tracktioneers so we wanted to spill the beans to you first.
We are proud to announce the formation of Tracktion Software Corporation (TSC), a fully independent company focused on product development, user support and global promotion of the Tracktion brand.
As you have probably figured out by now, the team consists of Julian 'Jules' Storer, Tracktion's original creator (and all around code guru); James 'Woody' Woodburn (me), a self confessed electronic music addict and long time Mackie/Avid product manager; Dave 'Dangerous' Christenson, chart topping recording artist, entrepreneur and long time Euphonix/SSL/Mackie globe trotter.
TSC is an agile, motivated team with the experience needed to take Tracktion to the next level. We don't intend to do this in isolation, you are all part of the Tracktioneer family and we want you to be involved with the future of this great platform - we will be holding events in major cities around the world to meet you face to face and share ideas for future releases, we'll also be holding online research sessions.
Of course, along with the launch of TSC we are making a brand new version of Tracktion software available - T4. This latest version represents a fresh start for the platform and builds on the popular features of Tracktion 3, however, with a significant upgrade. The Tracktion engine has been completely re-written such that it is now fully optimized for the very latest operating systems - both Mac and PC - along with 64bit processing, WMA, AU and WASAPI support.
We will be making the new builds of T4 available to download as the site goes live tomorrow morning (PST). The builds that will be posted first are the 32bit versions - we are still testing the 64bit builds and they will be made available in your user accounts over the next week or two - we are finding that numerous plugins don't run in the 64bit environment, so we will be rolling those out within the user accounts rather than on the open download to avoid potential problems.
Please be aware that T4 is not about new features, it is about compatibility with current OS's, refactoring the codebase for improved performance and creating a rock solid base for further development - a major project for Jules! We have removed a good deal of unnecessary legacy code and Jules has given the platform the very latest Juce innovations. We have also been eradicating some of the long standing bugs that were present in previous versions.
Don't worry, T4 does not contain any superfluous third party FX or VI's - we will be pursuing what we believe is a better path, where each Tracktioneer can choose how they want to customize their experience - we all like a good deal so I will be negotiating the same discounts from 3rd party vendors, only we will let you choose which offers are relevant. We feel this is much better than starting with 10GB of generic 'stuff' that just takes up space on your HD - we leave that to the Garage Band's. Plus, adding Audio Unit support greatly increases the options for modern FX and VI's.
We are making an upgrade available to any previous Tracktion user (V1,2 or 3), that has a user account, for the killer price of $29.99 - new customers pay the full price of $59.99. With a T4 license, you will get both 32bit and 64bit versions for both Mac and PC - you choose which you prefer to run. Your existing user accounts have been transferred from Mackie so please go to
www.tracktion.com/login to gain access.
If you need to contact us for any reason, you can reach me either in this forum (my screen name is TSC), the new forum on
www.tracktion.com, or email me directly at
woody@tracktionsoftware.com
From the team at TSC, we hope you enjoy the new software, the new website and most importantly the new future of the Tracktion brand!
Woody.
Aiynzahev - Wed Jan 23, 2013 10:06 pm
Can't wait to demo, what a great price too. I hate all that 10+ of GB of loops and what not and have all the VI's and effects I need. Good move, no clutter
bk - Wed Jan 23, 2013 10:07 pm
WooHoo!
Thanks for the info Woody, and thanks for dropping it here first!
Best of luck with the new venture. I think you'll have a lot of fans rather quickly!

MelodyMan - Wed Jan 23, 2013 11:06 pm
This is just what the doctor ordered. I won't even demo it, i am buying it as soon it is online. Welcome back!

It's already online. I'm downloading the new T right now.
In my mind.
I expect the switch will be thrown, after the official NAMM ribbon cutting and food fight later today.
I'm liking the new UI. Got that neglected, cobweb vibe, but with a hint of: when this switches on, there's a gonna be a whole lotta go-juice goin' on.

Welcome, congratulations and thank you. At that price, I think I can persuade a couple of prospective customers to come aboard.

Thank you sooooo much! I have been waiting for some news since a loooong long time! It's still January but I'm sure this post would win the KVRaudios best news award 2013!

All the best for the launch and stuff!
ModuLR - Thu Jan 24, 2013 1:44 am
Congrats fellas!
shindigger - Thu Jan 24, 2013 1:50 am
Fantastic that you're back in the game chaps.
I wasnt going anywhere anyway, but its great to know T is being supported again. Bloody brilliant in fact!
I expect the way i will go is with a new machine and a clean start with T4 and leave my other set up as it is.
Was getting a bit twitchy about my XP 32 bit and MS upcoming lack of support. Today is a good day.

I suspect nothing will switch until the NAMM announcement @9:30am PST, which is around 5:30pm here in the UK. Otherwise, why wait?

That's a Loud Technology press conference. It has nothing to do with Tracktion 4.
jabe - Thu Jan 24, 2013 6:05 am
Aye, that was found in the old BT4 days, when we were scratching around for clues.

Wow, this is just awesome!!!
I feel like hugging somebody now
ravasb - Thu Jan 24, 2013 6:32 am
I am not sure I need a new DAW, but I will probably buy a license just to support a development team that is making such a good faith effort. I might also find out that this fills some functions that I cannot get in other apps. In any case, best of luck to the TSC team and congrats to all of you who kept faith in the program.

We're waiting for Woody to wake up on the west coast and throw the switch to turn on the new website! He said it would be this morning PST. I would say another 3-4 hours, but could be as long as 5-6.
MelodyMan - Thu Jan 24, 2013 6:54 am
It could be some legal agreement. The press-conference is the official moment that Mackie lets go of Tracktion. So the official new website cannot be launched when the old contract hasn't ended. Pretty boring stuff probably.

Hey guys - thank you SOOOO much for all the kind words and support!
The switch is being 'thrown' around 10am this morning - apologies for the agonizing wait, our web dev has to synchronize the timing with the Mackie team, so it has to happen during office hours here in Seattle.
I will be on a plane to NAMM when the site goes live - picture me biting my fingers all the way there!!
The site is very much a work in progress - its been a long month already - so please go gentle with us!
Enjoy guys - its been a long time coming!!

This is fantastic news!
And at that price it's a no-brainer.
My only concern is whether I can still remember my old Tracktion account info, as I've not been using it since version 2... will there be a password reminder/reset option? Not 100% sure I even have the same email address ...

still got my tracktion 1 license. It's a no-brainer for me too. I'm curious though, in Julian's video, he says the update was for tracktion 2 and 3 and in Woody's message, it's 1 2 and 3. I hope the latter still holds. In any case, the full version is inexpensive.

Not to rain on the DNS party switch - but that can take as long 72 hours to propagate across the DNS servers. That would be equivalent to 5 years in Groundhog minutes. Not acceptable. So...we need the new IP address, before the rioting starts. Anyone got it?

That shouldn't affect tracktionsoftware.com, which is still a coming soon page. Oh well. I've waited five years now. I'm also experienced in website debuts not debuting. I know that feeling very well, indeed. There's always
something.
I'll only be upset if when it finally arrives there is a splash page that makes noise.

The last time I felt this impatient was when Nelson Mandela was released in 1990. Realising this would be one of those epochal moments you could tell your grandkids about, like watching the moon landings, the Berlin wall come down, or Tracktion 4 being released, I perched in front of the tv determined to see the great man emerge.
He was an hour late. An hour spent in front of the TV, refusing to move, watching those prison gates and listening to the news coverage.

Very exciting! Exactly what Tracktion needed. T3 wasn't bad - just had gotten a bit rough around the edges, and was in need of some TLC.
I know its fashionable to moan about the bundled stuff with T3, but i actually found myself using the loops pretty frequently (if often only to sketch ideas) and especially the VSTs like CronoX and the mackie mixing tools. I'd be disappointed if all that stuff doesn't work in T4 (hoping it all still does, but sometimes they're locked to a particular host/version)

About as strange as everybody getting excited that Tracktion is now owned by Loud and not owned by Loud anymore haha.
Mackie = Bad reputation,so the same company that has treated tracktion users like dirt, does the only thing it can to boost the asset, hire the only person Tracktion users would trust, jules, that would not be a problem normally, but not stating it openly..... Bad form and to be expected from loud

There's a thread on the JUCE forum from yesterday/today where Jules mentions "getting the code back" (presumably from Mackie) a couple months ago.
He states later that he may hire someone to help him with it, but that it is

T1/T2 were the tools that enabled me to write & record my own music. Really looking forward to T4!

does anyone not think its strange that TSC has got a 'nickname' under his username, even tho he has only been a member here since Dec 31st?
BTW, jealous?

I would be too but if I were to ever get a nickname it would probably be "Who?".

Nope. Had two. Got rid of the last one years ago

Not to rain on the DNS party switch - but that can take as long 72 hours to propagate across the DNS servers. That would be equivalent to 5 years in Groundhog minutes. Not acceptable. So...we need the new IP address, before the rioting starts. Anyone got it?

But it is still owned by loud, no ?
It doesn't appear that way to me. I suspect T4 may have begun on a Mackie wish list, but when Jules told them how much it would cost to overhaul it and update it they said "Hell no! You want it back?". Of course, I'm just guessing, as we all are.
My time I had set aside today to mess with the new demo is just about up. Time to get some work done.

In the youtube video from another thread Jules state its " Tracktion Software Corporation " and that its an independent business so its basically Jules , Woody , and Dave . Its those 3 people's business . ie. not Mackies not Loud not Raw Material Software . etc etc .

I'm not sure why people are struggling with this.

Just resentment towards Mackie. But there are no conspiracies.

well lets just see shall we, the reason i am dubious is that i have been told by a reliable source that this company is owned by loud, if it isnt it easy for them to confirm that,no harm no foul.

great news. ready to buy a licence as soon as the site goes live. I've been trying to get used to Studio One. I like it, but I'm certainly not as productive as I have been with Tracktion... Looking forward to new features, especially audio quantising tools...
