Doppelmangler has now been officially released. Get the demo at http://www.whitenoiseaudio.com/doppelmangler/ Doppelmangler will cost 149$ US and can be ordered now. As a special deal, we are offering 25% off White Noise Additive when you buy Dopelmangler.

Dopplemangler is a full featured spectral resynthesizer. It will let you
take your .WAV files and turn them into something completely new. With
Doppelmangler, you can:

a.. Timestretch, reverse, reorder and remix your sounds by visually
redrawing their timeline.
b.. Apply one of 20 different nondestructive MangleFX to the spectrum of
the sound. These will let you do vocoding, frequency shifting and scaling,
robotizing, hybridizing and more!
c.. Import images (in .BMP) and convert them to sounds. Export a .WAV file
as a .BMP and re-import the .BMP to get back the original sound. Now you can
visually edit the spectrum of a sound on a PC
d.. Morph between two sources
e.. Use up to 256 partials (partials are the basic components of any
sound) per voice
f.. Utilize a full FX section - Phaser, Chorus/Flanger/Delay and
Distortion/Wavewarper
g.. Modulate your sounds using time-syncable envelopes that can also be
used as LFO's

Screenshots and audio samples are available at

It played with the demonstration version.
It is very wonderful.

An order was placed instantly.
The completion version is long in coming.

I tried the demo. It sounded amazing. Shocked Shocked Unfortunately, I have an ear infection in my right ear so I could only hear one side. Evil or Very Mad Very Happy It should sound more than twice as good once I get my hearing back.

Great job on the synth. Exclamation

Well, after playing with the demo yesterday (see here) today i have pre-ordered DoppelMangler. I didn't realise it comes with 300mb of presets, that should keep me busy for a while Very Happy.

By the way, I should probably note for people reading this that there is an option to ship doppelmangler on CD to you with all the presets, i think it just costs you the extra shipping. I decided not to as i have broadband and downloading the presets isn't a problem, and i want DoppelMangler as soon as i can get it!

I can't wait for the full DoppelMangler goodness!! Very Happy

Hey Everbody,

Glad to see the buzz!

I was lucky enough to be one of the beta testers, and I've gotta say that you are all in for a real treat.

Dopplemangler is an absolute pleasure to work with. Very intuitive and easy to create terrific sounds.

I sent Dave a bunch of presets. He is welcome to sahre them with whoever wants them.

Cheers, and congrats to Dave!

Just got my copy today and I played with it for a couple of hours. Very Happy Very Happy This synth has a lot of potential. You can get some nice rhythmic loops going. Shocked It is easy to add gated effects with the amp envelope. Cool

One suggestion is that you should display the name of the patch you are currently working on. Saving a patch wasn't very intuitive. I had to read the manual to figure out what was going on. Sad I couldn't figure out how to rename a patch in FLStudio :fruity: but I guess you can just rename the file it saves.

I will have to read the manual to figure out how to properly use the import options but overall this synth is very easy to program with a very intuitive interface. Very Happy

Hey Phil,

Thanks for the comments! I'll add that patch name to the UI asap. I know some hosts don't display it very prominently or allow editing of it very easily.

Glad you are enjoying it. Very Happy

haven't had a chance to use it properly yet, although i have been with the demo. One thing that would be nice is presets for the import options. I oftend find i have to change these options for every sound i choose.
WhiteNoise - Tue May 04, 2004 7:04 am
Hey Reso,
Import options are saved in the preset, so it would be possible to save some Init presets with different settings.

sounds good so far, more work for me Very Happy Cool
vurt - Thu May 20, 2004 4:23 am
there was a few banks of presets on the page i d/l the synth from Wink
WhiteNoise - Thu May 20, 2004 5:41 am
Hey guys, welcome Smile

300 megs is the uncompressed size (unless I horribly miscalculated). The presets on the registered users page are probably about 100 megs.

Cool, I'd be happy to answer any questions or hear suggestions. I'm planning on doing some video tutorials as well soon to help people get started and share some mangling tricks.

I will test DM this weekend. I was really impressed with the demo's! I like the 2 slower ones very much. I'm just in a period were I'm making slower music and I think DM really adds a special mood to the tunes. Looking forward to checking it out! Cool

Peter.

Dave
There is a full page review in the latest Computer Music - Scored a respectable 8/10.

Strange thing was they couldn't get it to work in Sonar using the dx/vst wrapper - strange because it use DM in Project 5 using the same wrapper. I think you should have got a 9/10. You was Robbed!!
WhiteNoise - Thu Jul 22, 2004 2:24 pm
Woo, thanks for the heads up Philly! Be nice if they told me they were having a problem - I probably could have fixed it before press time. Oh well, 8/10 is not bad.
WhiteNoise - Tue Jul 27, 2004 6:25 pm
Hey, is that in the August issue? I got the July issue but didn't see it...
Philly - Tue Jul 27, 2004 9:29 pm
Yeah, Issue #76 (Aug 04) page 103. I can scan and send a jpeg if you want. Let me Know.

hey Dave
when will doppelmangler v1.1 be released? if they had that to review it would have been a 9 or 10 for sure Wink magazines like CM should really have a policy not to review products on the initial release because of the bugs that haven't been addressed yet...

Hey scammy,

Not sure when 1.1 will be out. Hopefully by September. There's a lot of stuff I would like to add to it, but I might just release what I have and save the rest for 1.2

Thanks for the offer Philly -- I'm gonna pick up the mag at the store so I can have a real copy. No need to go thru the trouble.

BTW, Doppelmangler is also featured in Music Tech this month (july) on the coverdisc. They have a small write up of it too which is pretty positive.
