Pfft, you're all
FALSE METEL.
Anyway, thought I may as well be first to post again, with the very charming;
cuntsucker
Do you see?
pepelogu - Thu Jul 01, 2004 3:56 pm
I have no idea if this is "metel" as i rarely listen to it(if "trance-pop-metel" a sub-genre, then this is just that). Anyways here goes:

Btw; no guitars were harmed in making this song.
shamann - Thu Jul 01, 2004 7:20 pm
Right, never entered one of these before.
Perhaps not as old skool umlaut as the theme would like, but I've been wanting to try out some of that underground slow moving sludgecore doomdeathdirge metel that's all the rage, so here, respectfully, is my entry, made under me SIGHUP monicker:
Glloom
Gear used:
An old cheap-sounding free soundfont of an Ovation acoustic guitar
Audiomulch, Sound Forge, sfz
several distortion plugins, shapers, delays, spectral messers, buffer skippers, slicers and dicers, amp sims, filters, EQs, compressors and reverbs (at least 2 of each)
If I'd had another ten minutes, I might have brought in some drums.
Cheers, and bring on the DOOM!!!

The Morrow
1
you won't stick
your finger
in her nose
fekin' prick
my anger
is so close
R
you should flee
in the glow
if you stay
you won't see
the morrow
2
watch your ass
sad culprit
you won't taste
her armpit
the sweetness
of her feet
3
you won't smell
her body
you won't touch
her belly
she's my girl
my country
my dear whore

To set the scenary:
A guy is doing an unplugged popballad thing... singing (da dee di) (the intro)
This doesn't please the death metal band and they throw him off the stage and starts by sining "DIE" and then just telling him how crap he is.
How he manages to get back on the stage and do the bridge is beyond me though

Deep, dark and dirty as I can get
Darkness in your Soul
This is the closest to Metel (as I see it) I can get.
Anyhow, A f**ked up Rez patch, FatMachine made fatter through SpectrumWorx and Filterbank, AnaMark provided some luscious dirt. Drums from Ersdrums and a kick from Drumatic, f**ked up with Camel and Cyanide2. Some weird distorted madness from the Fizmo. Various FX like skidder, ambience, Kiesel Delay, some endorphin and lots and lots of Cyanide2 plus Steinberg's Distortion on the master
Oh yeah and vox ran through the Fizmo tremolo effect
[edit]Oh yes; the hardly hearable lyrics
I am the darkness in your soul
I am the weakness in your whole
You better watch your tail
Cause darkness will prevail
That black opaque comes back
At night it will attack

duncanparsons - Sun Jul 11, 2004 8:59 am
Metel, eh?
So what's the MOST metal instrument?
That's right:
(Well, it's a close thing with the Sousaphone, but let's not go there!)
And who's the MOST metal vocalist?
That's right:
Unfortunatley, Mickey Dolenz has him a very restrictive contract, but I managed to get Anal Ogx from the Finnish Skunk Metal band Sa Yit, who sounds very much like Metal Mickey.
Anal's accent is rather strong, so to help, here are the lyrix:
Anal Ogx wrote:
It's been one of those days
When I'm all in a haze
And it's all going Crazy
Open your eyes
And it's no surprise
That I've got BAD VIBES
Get it while it's hot:
Bad Vibes
Produced with stuff, and a few plug ins, recorded and mastered in NTrack
DSP
Sleek Month - Mon Jul 12, 2004 1:08 am
Okay.
I went for the Sabbathy/stoner thing.
Anima Anceps
The lyrics are *very* freely adapted from a poem called "Anima Anceps" by A.C. Swinburne, hence the excellent Metel© sounding title.
Not a lot of vsti's on this one, just drums really, though there are a bunch of fx and stuff...so, it's still very vst dependant, having been made in cubase and all.
Hope you like it. Cheers!
-S.
Patrick9 - Mon Jul 12, 2004 8:16 am
I had to wait until Studio A was free to do the vocals (I mean until the house was empty).
This is a supernaturalheavymetalmotorpsychoballad.
Keys to the Highway
It started in the bar room, a simple game of chance
It ended in the alley of the Friday night dance
Last man standing wins and the winner takes all
I won the keys to the highway, but the Devil took my soul.
The dance hall was crowded but the alleyway was dim
Among the broken glass and garbage there was only me and him
He pulled a blade that meant business with a look that meant kill
Then suddenly he froze, as if time itself stood still
The prize stood in the alley, moonlight glinting on the chrome
There was a stranger in the shadows though I’d swear we’d been alone
I heard his voice in my head and it made my blood run cold
He said, “To you the spoils of battle – but I get your soul.”
He vanished and the fight was on, we slowly circled round
The first move I made I kicked his Harley to the ground
He dropped his guard and looked away, I jumped him from behind
Bone smashed on metal, and victory was mine.
I pulled the Hog to its wheels and I rode into the night
There’s been many miles of lonely road since that fatal fight
I’m cursed to keep travelling, never find a home
I won the keys to the highway, but the Devil took my soul.
ScarKord - Wed Jul 14, 2004 7:47 am
Never done Metal before, and after you've heard this I'm sure you'll say I still haven't
Anyway, here's the ScarKord entry, complete with vocals (of sorts) distorted to buggery through a Boss Distortion pedal and barely comprehensible.
And it's even got a crowbar or two in there, so I'd say that's metal enough!
Time for the Fear
Lyrics...
Running Scared
Be afraid
Don’t look back
I’m on my way
I’m catching up
Don’t fall behind
You feel my breath
I’ll take your mind
Running Scared
Some might say
You’d better run
The hell away
Check the clock
You’re out of time
I’m catching up
I’ll take your mind
Time for the fear.... Huh!
Sicklecell666 - Thu Jul 15, 2004 9:40 am
Ok guys..here's my
1st track on KvR. Some words are in order first.
I was in a band about ten years ago that was deemed the 'Kings of Sludge Core' in Maxumm Rock & Roll. For those not familiar with Sludge Core, I refer you to underground legends such as Godflesh, Pitchshifter, & Scorn. I assure you, the reader, that while these bands practiced a very unorthodox method at the time of instrument use & songwriting, they were at one point the heaviest groups on the f**king planet, & thier influence is still felt today heavily by many. A nod to those in the know.
In the spirit of that style of
Metel, conventional use of guitar has been eliminated.
Anyways, things were really about to take off for us, then I was abruptly kicked out of the band days before we signed to Bovine records. When the album was released, I found that almost half the tracks were mine. Not to mention the main guy in the band had been my best friend for nearly 10 years. I never spoke to him again.
So I walked away from music, particularly collaborating, till very recently, which I've been doing quitely behind the scenes. I was a guitarist/bassist back in the day, but the power of Digital Audio has led me to experiment with other instruments, which only now are being brought under heel for me. While I'm enjoying working again with other's, this track is all me; I just wrote it yesterday.
I would like to thank some ppl for giving me the feedback & encouragement I needed to upload something to the public domain; without these individuals, you would probably never, ever, hear ANYTHING I have done ,or will ever do.
It took me over a decade to get past the betrayal I experienced at the hands of someone I trusted, hence this track's title, which is dedicated to him; Steve B____s.
May you rot in f**king hell, Steve. I'm still here.

Sorry for the speech, but it means alot to me to be back in the mix, even if I have a long way to go.
Be on the look-out for a re-mixed, extended version of this track here in the music cafe sometime next week, as I'm in the process of collaboration with a few very talented artists who can help take this track to where I really want it to be.

Kiken-Ga-Ippai
http://www.markleford.com/music/files/04_07_markleford_kikengaippai.mp3
Japanese jazz-guitarist Kazumi Watanabe's "Kiken-Ga-Ippai" is quite literally my favorite song EVER (from "Mobo Club", my favorite album ever).

I always knew I'd do a cover of it, but never could have guessed it would be in this form! In a stroke of playful inspiration, I've taken his jazz-fusion tune and warped it into a math-metel blazer at 150% the original tempo and the distortion cranked up!

I did groove-up the middle section, though, so don't be scared!
I guess this is my little tribute to his 1984 gift to me, 20 years after.
(Oh, and I take the title to mean something akin to "Danger Is Everywhere": not to be confused with the Dragonball Z theme of the same name!

)

In keeping with George's recommendation back at the beginning of this compo -thanks pal- I tried somethiing in the spirit of the maestro Steve Morse, who in his typical classy way, at the end of one hot take utttered the following: "I refuse to scream." So I hereby take his advice to heart with:
I Refuse to Scream
Very sloppy guitar playing done in one take with no overdubs (and which I in no way presume to approach Morse's genius) was me on an Ibanez Artist 120 (Cherry red)tuned normally -no drop tuing for this old man- preed through a V-Amp2 direct into Sonar with no plugins. Drums- Sonic Reality Drum Capsule

Beautiful Baby Prod kit in SampleTank2 programed with MusicLab's Slicy- and Fillin-Drummers; Bass and Organ patches played in SampleTank2. Produced me in Sonar 3.1.1. Mastered in Adobe Auditon 1.5 with TRacks Eq DXi with touch of Sir reverb for polish.
Of corse for the rest of you screaming is optional.

Good luck all!

and here it is - MY first entry into a contest!
And I can be as

METEL

as I wanna be! When I was still learning guitar I went through a metal period which included listening to bands like Judas Priest circa
Screaming For Vengeance and the first and second Michael Schenker Group albums.
So, I give you:
http://dreibel44.spymac.net/07_04_dreibel_pigbitingmad.mp3
"Pig Biting Mad! (More METEL Than Jarl! Mix)" started out life as another Garageband jam on my Power Mac G4, but then got transferred into Cubase VST 5.1, where it was tweezed into shape and then had some VSTs added on - Kompakt was used with an EXS sound package of a large Ludwig kit, FM7 provided a pad for the Floyd-like opening, and the "guitar lead" is actually from the demo of reFX's The Beast played with my Peavey Falcon/Roland GM-70 MIDI guitar setup!
The crunchy stuff is my Peavey Predator Plus, newly fitted with a Seymour Duncan JB and two GFS single-coiled sized humbuckers, played through the Marshall model of my POD 2 (the lead that opens it is a fuzztone patch), and massaged with various EQ and plug-in effects within Cubase. The Dreibelbass also goes through the POD.
The title comes from the favorite pet phrase of Ed Anger, a psycho opinion columist in the US supermarket tabloid
Weekly World News (sample rant: "The Smurfs are turning our kids into wimps!" ) And Jarl? "Jarl Sigurd" is the name of a notorious USEnet spammer and troll who's been disrupting the guitar newsgroups by proclaiming his brilliance on guitar synth, despite the fact that the end results are more like - well, remember Insanity, the band in Terry Pratchett's
Soul Music ? That's what he sounds like
Enjoy!

Well, first of all, hopefully this link is working...
http://www.yagushi.com/mp3/Yaguchi01/2004_07_Yaguchi01.mp3
I got lazy and just renewed my website with the same company - eventhough I've had major problems (server constantly offline!

) - so the link hasn't been working for me... I pray it works for you!
Anyway, here's the lowdown on my entry...
It's my metel-version of "Buggie Technica" by POLYSICS... well, it's my version of the intro to that song... I just thought it would be cool to replace the vocoding with some Napalm Death/Cannibal Corpse/???-type grunting and throw in some slightly more "metel" guitar riffage! (Although there's not too much riffage because the song's intro chord-progression is ultra-sparse)
In addition to my typical "a couple of instances of Synth1 and a few drum samples" sonic foundation, this track features my lovely coral-pink '66 Fender Mustang via The Rat (with a bit of the ol' JCM900 plug for a little more crunch!) and my super-patented "where's the Isodine?" vocal stylings... Enjoy!

(if my server is willing...

)
edit: Major thanks to You™ for hosting my track! Click on his link below if the link above isn't working... it most probably isn't...

Here is my contribution to the contest. Enjoy!
Metal Hurlant
Made with Kinetic and Sonar, 4 instances of Slayer 1.5, and some cool samples from Digital Music Maker magazine. Too close to the deadline!

I just heard that we're allready leaving for the gig, not returning until tomorrow afternnon, so this is almost unmixed/unmastered.
Originally planned to be at 50BPM but that was too slow, so now it's 60BPM.
Stuff:
- Anderson Drop Top, Ibanez 335 clone
- Behringer VAmp
- A totally unmaintained Musicman bass
- My humble voice through an 58Beta
- Logic and not much FX
- Kingston Drums in EXS
Farts in SloMo
