After spending some time tinkering and re-tinkering and then tinkering some more, here's the final Josephine mix for your enjoyment.
Changes:
I have added some ear-candy: a sine wave synth from CM-101, some leslie-d string pads from Sampletank Free, a music box thingy from Plugsound Free and possibly some other things I don't remember right now.
I have messed a lot with Gordon's guitar during the first part of the track so that it sounds like a digital-pad-thing more than anything else. The guitar's only REALLY loud and clear after the vocals end which is the way I originally intended it to be. Sorry Gords, I hope you'll forgive me, the mix was overflowing...
And finally, lots of effects added with Dave's voice eq'd, de-essed, reverbed, compressed, tube-warmed etc. , not necessarilly in that order though.
Here's the final thing, thanks Pao for hosting

Comments welcome...
ps. Have I ever mentioned all this time that I called this track Josephine after that french girl in 'Big Fish'? She's so cute, I adore her.

i like it, except that sine tone seems way too loud to me in the beginning. check your mix again there's some clipping going on during the guitar solo.

Okay, you're probably not going to like this; but I think you tinkered a tad too much here. I was listening to the final mix and I just found and felt it too flat somehow. So I went back to the first offering, which was rather unprocessed. But the first vocal mix I am listening to now and I feel this to be far better then the final mix you are offering now.
I am affraid you have overproduced this, but that is my humble opinion

It is a great song ! And I love the guitar
I could give 2 remarks
I don't like the vocals, doesn't sound natural. A shame for somebody that can sing like that.
I have a problem with the drums to, sounds a litle flat. Perhaps adding some compression ?
But still a great song.
Just my 2 cents

Yup, sine tone = a bit too loud.

And perhaps a bit rigidly quantised as it was inserted in the piano roll. I'll check the clipping, I'm waiting for a new mix for this anyway.
Thanks.

Overproduced? Moi? Certainly not!!
Well, yes, i sometimes get a bit carried away. I need to join Overproducers Anonymous actually.

And you wouldn't believe how much compression i threw over the poor thing

Actually I have the first mix you're talking about here on a CD and I listen to it in the car with pride, so maybe I tinkered a bit too much with this.

I'm waiting for a new mix from Gordon which will also hopefully have the FULL guitar solo and not just the little bit I left in at the fade-out [I'm not an adequate mixer enough to leave the whole guitar in without killing the vocals in the mix, but I trust Gordon will do it

]
Thanks for the honesty and the review Mark!! Appreciated.

Thanks Rony! The vocals were a bit better before I decided to throw a whole lot of Classic Reverb on them, I should have probably applied it with a little bit of 'discretion'

And the drums are actually the 'demo' drum part that I decided to leave in because I was a little lazy to work on a full drum track... Glad you still like it though...

I like this song... though I'm still unsure which mix I prefer (I have on called Jospephine_VocalMix). I'm not sure about the reverb on the latest vocals. Though the guitar solo is good and the general balance I think is better on the new mix.
Are you going to open this up for remixes?... Cause if you are I wouldn't mind having a go (though i've not tried remixing before so it'll probably end up being crap! But I'd like to try)

Hey Ben, if you're interested in a remix, I'll post all the parts I currently have [unfortunately not a lot since my song files are on my PC at Greece and I'm currently at Cyprus] on this thread so you can give it a go.

errmm ...
which is the 'final' mix ?...
or ...
is this a 'do it yourself' project ?...
xoxos - Sat Jul 24, 2004 9:35 am
stuff that's hard-panned L-R can really obscure center material on cans.. those sine bits were 10x louder than needed that way :D

Yep.

They are going to be completely removed though.

ooops... sorry, I forgot to come back to check this thread!
I'll download them now... though I'm not going to have time to do this for a couple of weeks now

. as I've been re-mixing dekky's song and I'm away next weekend. But I'll definetly give it a go when I next can as I have a few ideas for this.
