I switched to lighttpd (www.lighttpd.net) for my web-serving needs. Uses like 3-5MB of RAM in normal operation (Apache 20-30MB per fork ) and I actually understand its conf files ;)
Are you running it on Unix, or Windows? I just installed Apache (bloat) on Windows, along with Perl, PHP, Python, and MySQL.

Doug
actually both. Windows for development, unix for production. There's precompiled binaries for almost every OS out there.

I'll have to check it out further ... from what I've read so far, it looks like a good alternative for my XP laptop. Thanks.

i tried to download the Kontakt2 update , its still far to slow ill try again tomorrow.

This is silly. I cannot complete the download because the file is corrupt. I am using Get Right to ensure the download on my end isnt the problem. The error message says the file was "http://www.native-instruments.com/php/f ... 0U_Win.zip"

I tried again now (12hrs later). I finally got into the website, however once I've gotten to the download manager, it's like Starfish mentioned, it's like the file is now missing from their server. Maybe they just deleted it to return their other stuff to normal. =/

Strange. Oh well. I just feel sorry for those needing to register this weekend. (another reason to drop the CP)

Now I'm waiting for the NI Kontakt forum to load a thread. I'll be back once I that's complete. Been about ten minutes already. I'm not really :o

Be sure to check out the NI Konatkt forums too, as many users are reporting bugs and isuues with this new 2.1 update

The difference, especially on file-servers with lots of concurring connections, is HUGE.
Thanks for this info! I've bookmarked the link to look through later. It's good to know this kinda stuff as I learn more about databasing and scripting. It seems almost overwhelming to get into, but html & css looked pretty alien to me at first, too.

Please, if you have any other helpful links to good tutorials or articles for someone just getting into datbasing and scripting, please post them. :D It's hard to know what would be the best place to start. I really do like the way PHP script looks versus asp.

I just had a thought, too. Ben built this site in PHP and it must get tons of hits constantly, but Ive never seen it say more than, please login due to high traffic. 8)

Oh fun! I just hope I can use it in Sonar now without it crashing when I open projects at later times. The last project like this, I spent most of 2 days writing a really nice cue, then I closed the project to open it later (few hours), and Kontakt's sample search dialog kept crashing sonar to desktop. Even though I always save samples in a project folder when possible, before I save a project, it still couldn't find them or provide me with a search dialog before it would crashed. It's happened like this many times. :x

I had to end up renaming the kontakt plugin file, so that sonar would load. Then I'd delete the instances of Kontakt, resave the project, and then activate the plugin again. Then it would be the painful process of resetting up the midi tracks and samples. :(

Well, it looks like their website is faster now, probably because no one is actually downloading anymore. Update link is still not grabbing the file. It must have been deleted or move til they can staighten everything out (just a guess).

Post

Nevermind the above. It's downloading now!! (first time) . . at 8k :o :-o

Post

Damn, it just stopped on me at 90%! Only took two hours to get that much. ARG!

Quite frustrating.

I feel your pain. :-S Hope things will improve pretty quickly for you.

I think we'll see this behavior for a few days, as there's probably a lot of people with partial downloads retrying till they get it completely.

Btw, once I got a couple of kinks out of my conf file, lighttpd is working fine on Windows. Thanks for the info!

Thanks, Meffy. :) Actually I'd finally succeeded in getting the file and am getting ready to load it up now. :D

I hope it improves for everyone else now, too.

Hopefully it won't last that long.

Good luck to all that haven't gotten it yet.
