M42 Nebula Version 2

Image

Combining algorithmic rhythmic elements, giant pad and space sounds which can be manipulated in real time, as well as a unique warp function, the M42 brings the quality of virtual instruments to a new level. The M42 is named after the great nebula located in the constellation of Orion.

Two unique modules: The Pulsar and Arpeggiator which when run together can create complex rhythms and arpeggiation effects. The arpeggiator is very different from the usual arpeggiators as it receives its waveform structure from the LFO and is not dependent on chords played on the keyboard. The Pulsar creates rhythms as well as a sample hold generator. All are synced to the host BPM. This design was inspired by Klaus Shultz's timeless electronic music piece called "Totem" in which the M42 Nebula has now become known for it's "Totem" sound.
==============
"M42 Nebula - Rhythm Pad Machine Extraordinaire"
"Most pad synths are relatively expensive sample based products like Atmosphere and Morphology. But even these lack M42's Pulsar and Arp features. While Atmosphere can make some very polished noises, and has some gorgeous samples in there, M42 can make a whole host of rhythmic pad sounds that Atmosphere cannot."
Kevin Rossiter, TraXmusic.org
===============

Architecture:
Two completly independent synths with each:
- 2 ADSR Envelope Generators.
- 12dB/octave State Variable Filter (LP, HP, BP and AP).
- LFO (BPM synced) with an unique Arpeggiator.
- Pulsar with custom grid editor. (BPM synced, creates the algorithmic element).
- Easy to operate 3 * 5 Modulation Matrix.

Waveforms:
- Synth1: (VAO) saw, square, triangle, pulse1, pulse2, Noise
- Synth2: (SFO) special set of 5 pad sounds arranged as
Soundfont bank. Number of supported banks: 4.

FX:
- Stereo Chorus/Flanger.
- Stereo BPM synced Cross-Delay.
- 2 band EQ, 1 band parametric.
- Autopanner.
- WARP (distortion with cutoff and resonance).

Global:
- MIDI Learn for almost all parameters
- Virtual Keyboard (for audition of presets)
- Multitimbrality: 2 (per instance!)
- Polyphony: 6 voices (each synth).

256 presets by noted sound designer Tim Conrardy

Minimum system requirements:
PC running Windows 98 at 1Ghz.
Screenresolution:1024*768.
VST* host.

Whats new in version 2?

1. White Noise waveform added (Synth 1)(User Request)
2. LFO page also shows the 'slow' bpm ratios (2/1 ... 32/1)
3. Clip on/off (so the filter can be used without distortion)
4. New GUI (The nebula is back! )
5. Choice of 9 preset colors for labels
6. Keyboard for audition, can be hidden( User Request)
7. MIDI Learn function
8. Master Volume control (User Request)
9. LED indicators for Rates and MIDI on mod matrix.
10. Edit Grid for Pulsar Module.(User Request)
11. New CC automation list.

Bugs fixes

1. Chorus modulation out of range problem fixed
2. FL studio problem fixed (Eg: leds were sending automation data to host during
export)
3. Synth 1 CC parameters not responding, fixed

This package also includes AlgoN, the prototype of the M42 Nebula.

Image

AlgoN was developed as a sketching board for our algorithmic ideas which developed into the current version of the M42 Nebula. Features include 2 seperate synths each with 1 oscillator with multiple waveforms, a low pass filter, 2 LFO's, 2 envelope generators, multiple modulation routings and a rhythm grid. An algorithmic scale generator was added to enable ever changing sequences with user scale selection. Add to this stereo panning for each synth, split keyboard capacity, plus reverb and x-y BPM synced delays, and you have an algorithmic monster on your hands. While the interface looks more like a NI Reaktor setup, all parameters are shown on one screen for easy access, yet small enough to use in any host. AlgoN comes with 128 presets by noted sound designers Tim Conrardy and UGO
Layering M42 Nebula with AlgoN inside your host will give you BPM synced rhythms, spacial pads and sequences, split keyboard ability, all at once for a full pallette of ever changing sound.
=================================
Also available for the M42 is a specially created soundset

TC M42 Ambient
New atmospheres and layered pads as well as analog sounds and sampled acoustic instruments add a unique blend to this new sound set. Explore new ambient textures and atmospheres that only the M42 Nebula can create.Comes with a full bank of 128 professionally designed presets made specifically for this sound set. However the SF2 can also be used with any of the presets that come with the M42.This soundset can also be loaded into other applications that use the SF2 standard for SoundFonts

Although I don't own it, just playing the old M42 once was what made me have to go buy a photon x25 keyboard.

Thanks ODO. I think the GUI overall is much better, and also that the nebula is back, and looking better then ever. But lots of cool new features like the pulsar edit grid, MIDI learn, you can change the colors of the labels for each section which is pretty unique in that you can talor the way it looks to your liking. The factory presets have also been reorgonized by type as well( another user request..we listen to our users!) This is the definitive M42. ..and if anybody hasn't tried it..its a load of fun. Time to check out the "Totem " sound!

I'll have to check out that keyboard..does it have an X-Y on it?
But yeah..its been a while since we did an update, but we think this is the definitive version. Try out the demo. Link above or in my sig.

Yes, that is right..the update is for free(and if you are a ver 1. or 1.1 owner, and did not get the notice update, please write to support and we will take care of you)

This VST has a new ID so you can have any versions next to each other happily in your VST folder. We have converted all the other banks to the new version. This includes the factory bank, the second factory bank, M42 Ambient and Zvons Julia bank. (no easy task, as a lot of parameters had to be added by hand for each and every patch)

The banks on patch arena however are for version 1 only..so you still need your version 1 for that.

Hope that clears it up! All updates are free to M42 owners!

runagate:
Thanks..maybe I'll check out that keyboard..sounds very cool, as it would be great to drive that warp with it!

BTW: we moved to a new site( you may have noticed) we are now algomusic.net , instead of algomusic.nl . We were having so may issues with users downloading and not getting the files, and after repeated letters to our provider, we determined there is no support there, and changed sites completly. If anybody has any download issues, especially on the demo, please let us know!!...but we are pretty confedant there should not be any!

Heres some KVR people demos

Astronom-1.eins.mp3. Composed and performed by Wiltert Wilts.
All melody-sounds have been performed by the M42 without any external FX (!). Special feature: The drums have been built with pink and white noise of - yes, it was the "Arpy"! (They have gone through some FX )

For those we love.mp3. Composed and performed by GEORGFRIES.

When we first introduced M42, there were a lot of other demos by vurt, Jim Hunter, KarmaComposer,rbarata,XL2 from www.anotherplanerecords.com. and more

There was even a whole live CD produced:Anthony Paul Kerby, the musician behind The Circular Ruins, released a live-broadcasted album called "The Alchemy Concert" which uses the M42 sound.

Review is here:

http://www.databloem.com/z_tcr_05.htm

and his works here:

http://www.databloem.com/z_tcr.htm

Its one of my fav CD's as well.

Also, to our surprise, ZVON ( lesproductions) started to make soundsets for the M42 and they are just excellent!

His M42 soundfonts page:
http://www.lesproductionszvon.com/Zvon_ ... Nebula.htm

so..its a good time to get aboard the nebula. M42 remains my fav synth!

WoW! 'lots of stuff going on with the ol' M42!

I eventually want to get around to remaking my M42 bank for version 2, since it isn't compatible with it at the moment. I may be able to finish it before the summer ends...that is, if I don't repeatedly delete it. :hihi:

Peace
