My memory ain't really that good Dean, but I'm glad you got things sorted out. As for the security thread, I have neglected it I know, but it has just got a little crazy over the last few months with all the new exploits such as stuxnet and the .DLL problem, and the latest scare of a new malware that can slip past intrusion prevention systems. I think the best thing I can do is ask a Mod if they would put up a sticky of links to reputable security related websites I provide and let people decided if they want to keep up to speed on the latest threats by visiting the sites via the links I provide.NEKRO.MACHINE wrote:Sorry this is off topic a little but anyways:barrybitter wrote:NitroSynth http://lywenn.eu.org
Hey barry - i did all the steps you mentioned and all trace left by Norten is gone. Thank you for the tips/advice mate appreciated. The laptop is alot quicker now i have noticed (not done any tests or the like but if i can tell then it definately did help a great deal!)
All the best barry and again thanks dude

Yeah that would be a smart move i should imagine Barry, since it must be a pain in the arse to constantly update/add new reports when a few trusted select links will do the same job and save you from having to type it all out. As for which moderator to ask - I am not sure who to recomend - But Meffy is always extremely helpful when i comes down to 'serious' stuff like that thread of your's and should be able to either sticky it or ask the 'sticky man mod' to see to it
The problem i had was a new internet/general laptop for general computer stuff/using online but also for the occasional use for audio tasks. It came pre-loaded with Windows 7 and one of them annoying norton/symantec products which 'does it all' pre-installed and just on trial. Since it was running out of trial fully featured mode and i really did not care for it - I unistalled it all and replaced it with avast!5 which i am much more satisfied with. However it had left alot of crap littered everywhere. So i followed your advice and dug in to remove every last trace of it and the machine has been so much better as a result. I do not use the default unistaller with windows anyway, i use one called ZSoft Unistaller 2 v2.4.1 http://www.zsoft.dk/index/software_details/4 which is much better and free Yet as said, I did have to do alot of manual removal of alot of the muck Norton/ Symantec left behind. Then after that i use this really simpe but effective toolkit: http://www.auslogics.com/en/software/boost-speed/ to scan, repair, clean and defrag the registry and disks...etc. And job is now a good one
Cheers and all the best

Aaah OK, I thought someone had taken it and added hyperlinks to it since this list is just a text file with names but no links.mztk wrote:you posted it. lol.eidenk wrote:Where is that?
