Hey runagate!

Currently no - but when I got into Tablet2Midi I asked the dev (to my shame I cant think of the wonderful chaps name off the top of my head! ) about this and he said he's interested in something like this too - to get back to him if I ever found a touchscreen suitable and he'd work on something...

My idea was a little screen on the desk or your lap... as portable as possible! It did seem doable and the dev was MORE than open to the idea at the time!

Hope this helps a bit sir!

Indeed it does. ohm that made Liveslice made tablet2midi if I recall correctly.

There's even smaller, cheaper touchscreens, though what he meant by touchscreen is probably not the kind of device we are discussing. ohm's forum is here on kvr somewhere.

I'll take a SeeLaser, TouchGlove and Taptile

Just got my p5 glove in the mail from a fellow KVRian. 10x better than I'd hoped!

Other thing... interesting-looking. I shall investigate.

The Photon Wind Research midi horn has a hoped-for release of Spring of 08, no price given.
Read the .pdf they have... I'm amazed. I want it right now. I'm actually thinking of breaking down and buying an EWI and then wham! I'm hit between the eyes with that thing!

you can get slightly older models of the Itronix gobook military-grade touchscreen laptops on Ebay for as little as $150-300

You got a link for that? Kinda hard to make a frankenstein laptop (I should know, I made this here 2.8 Ghz P4 from various parts and a case from a great, though obsolete, laptop and the proprietary b.s. in laptop hardware is no joke to work around). I guess had I not already about a 3M screen I coulda got that and used it as an indestructible monitor. Keep adding to the list - I'm definitely getting a Nostolomo.

Well, as it turns out the Nostromo is about the most time-saving thing ever invented for a computer musician. More useful than a touchscreen, even. What a time to be alive (if you like making brain-destroying psychedellic noise).

from the Create Digital Music blog: Nintendo DS touchscreen audio scratch/warp program
Create Digital Music wrote:Want a killer app for Nintendo DS music making? How about scratching, digitally downsampling, and transmitting MIDI wirelessly (for sync to other effects on a computer)? Yeah, thought you might be interested:

Features:
load .wav file or live-recorded audio
scratch
pitch control
FX “Retrig”
FX “DownSampling”
Midi OUT (wireless)
stylus control
NDSMotion control

I love the distinctive digital-sounding effects and the integration of visual feedback with stylus control. Version status is “pre-teta-alpha demo”, so use with caution, but it is freely available for download.

Hacked MIDI Support for Nintendo DS: DSerial (that’s hardware MIDI)
DSMIDIWiFi Free Download: Turn Your Nintendo DS into a Wireless Synth and Controller
Mobile Music: Tracker for Nintendo DS, DS Homebrew Music Roundup

Two things I find amusing: one, that the music games built for DS haven’t been as much fun as homebrew music “tools.” Two, that there isn’t something like this as a built-in instrument in Ableton Live. Attention, developers, on both counts.
What is this Nintendo DS? I need one.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Nintendo DS (sometimes abbreviated NDS or DS) is a handheld game console developed and manufactured by Nintendo, which was released in 2004 in Canada, U.S., and Japan. The console features a clamshell design, similar to the Game Boy Advance SP, with two LCD screens inside - one of which is a touchscreen. The Nintendo DS also features a built-in microphone and supports wireless IEEE 802.11 (Wi-Fi) standards,[3] allowing players to interact with each other within short range (10–30 m, depending on conditions) or online with the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service. This was the first Nintendo game console to be released in North America prior to Japan.

The system's code name was Nitro.[4] The console's name officially refers to "Dual Screen", the system's most obvious feature, and "Developers' System", in reference to the new game design the system was meant to inspire.[5]

On March 2, 2006, Nintendo released the Nintendo DS Lite, a redesign of the Nintendo DS, in Japan. It was later released in North America, Europe, and Australia in June 2006. The DS Lite is a slimmer and lighter version of the Nintendo DS and has brighter screens. Nintendo of America now refers to the older model as the "original style" Nintendo DS.[6]

Google seems to suggest a $129 price tag for the "Lite" version.
Blimey. This is just what I was looking for in the first place. Wi-Fi, built-in mic...
