Maybe it just sounds like a VIRUS..........zomboula wrote:It's a VIRUS !!!RickForce wrote:Hello,
I'm french^^.
I realized two programs for the D50.
One is called mod edit (free) EXE:
A program in VB 2008 Express (. NET Framework 3.5). It can communicate with the D50, import / export files sysex.
There is a database to sort the different styles of patches.
A graphical interface where all changes are sent directly to the D50.
The second is called MPlugD50 VSTi/EXE:
I just finished the first version with SynthMaker, it is in test.
There are still some bugs, such as CPU load for example.
One thing I did not know how are the Reverse Gates^^.
Many parameters still need to be calibrated. Sounds a little like those of D50 ^ ^.
You can download this on [urlmod edit[/url]
(sorry, my site is in French only for now )
Eric,

Honestly, yeah, would be nice if the top 3 gear manufacturers of the 80s (Korg, Yamaha and Roland) could get some vst emulation stuff up and running. Can't Cakewalk make a D50 vst, and then make it for every daw (like they did with their LA2A plugin)?
I was happy that Korg did that Legacy stuff. Also, FM8 is amazing and the Arturia Jupiter 8 is great. I wonder if Arturia will ever do a D50/JD990 plugin?
would they ever have any incentive to do so or is that too niche?

This endless flogging of the poor deceased quadruped…
There's never going to be a D50 emu by anyone except Roland, because Roland owns the samples. And Roland doesn't seem interested. E O S.
There are approximations (without actually using samples) for Zebra 2, for instance.

If it were easy, anybody could do it!

Not the same thing, but UVI has Digital Synsations. It's sample based, so programming it isn't like programming a D50 or SY, but maybe something like some of the sounds you're after are in there.
From their blurb:
http://www.uvi.net/en/vintage-corner/di ... tions.html
It's on half price special right now too, from UVI themselves, JRR, probably everywhere.
I have an SY99 as my only physical keyboard, and it's limited in many ways but amazing. For me, samples of particular patches played at particular velocities with particular controller settings pretty seriously misses the point of what that synth is about. That said, if you're after some cool sounds, not a programming environment, the UVI thing might be worth it.
From their blurb:
Info at UVI:...took 4 classic keyboards from the era and set our sound designers loose, tasking them to return with boundary-pushing sounds‚ and they did. Digital Synsations includes over 500 patches expertly programmed on a fully restored Yamaha SY77, Korg M1, Roland D50 and Ensoniq VFX...

You will find that VST doesn't make any sounds, it is a VST Editor for the D50 hardware.dwozzle wrote:Just noticed this too:

I think it is 32bit only, I bought the MKS-50v Editor for my Alpha Juno 1, it worked but had trouble holding the midi in/out settings when re-opening the VST, I moved over to the Reckon Audio Alpha Juno Editor because of that.(Sold the Alpha now though).bluedad wrote:wow, that looks interesting..will have to demo that. thanks!breakmixer wrote:You will find that VST doesn't make any sounds, it is a VST Editor for the D50 hardware.dwozzle wrote:Just noticed this too:

Yeah I suspected that looking at the installation process on youtube. Luckily I've got a 32 bit version of Cubase still installed.breakmixer wrote:

Might help the folks you don't want a hardware unit because patch management sucks for external synths in a DAW environment. I have my SY99 plus several old cheap hardware synths, and patch management is what keeps me from using anything but the SY, and not even the sounds in that so much any more, use it more as a controller.
Far as I know, the only generic editors are pretty much abandonwwware (Unisyn, SoundDiver). Less sure about generic librarians, haven't looked, but I doubt the situation's much better.
