Why is there no Roland JD-800 VST emulation ?

I hope they do a better demo for the JD-850 because what I'm hearing there is nothing like what I've ever got out of my JDs.

That goes for many other synths, too. It doesn't influence the character of the synth's sound. One has to ignore all the negativity about the JD-800 in this thread! It could be easily applied to any other synth. Hey, the Minimoog sounds dated! The Virus is overrated! etc. That's bullshit! Everyone of the older synths has a very certain character that you cannot recreate with anything else, no matter being it a digital synth or an analog one. The JD has filters that I have yet to find in any software emulation! Here's a good example of how good the JD sounds https://soundcloud.com/j-rome-troncy/jd ... timetravel ... saying that the JD is overrated or just transitional is pure ignorance. It has been used in a lot of ambient music and defined much of it. One very good example is William Orbit's "The Monkey King" (music here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jlQTfsC7ZvE) All these pads and sound texture clusters you hear in the first half are from the JD.Numanoid wrote:OKsys2074 wrote:the 800 is an awesome synth in itself. I love mine and one will have to rip it out of my dead, cold hands.
One downside I have read about the JD-800 is that it is quite a task to blend patches/tones in realtime:
Wikipedia: "due to the limited accuracy of the sliders, and because edited parameters jump from the value in memory to the value corresponding to the position of the slider, when the slider is moved, it is hard to edit sounds while playing, without creating sudden "jumps" in the sound"

The JD-800 is one cool looking synth (sure grabbed attention when one first arrived at the local music store) and I like a lot of the sounds I hear in demos. I'd be more inclined to live without the sliders and go with the JD-990 for the deeper sound engine, myself. Apparently the 990 has the same filter resonance distortion problem that the 800 has, though (corrected in subsequent units like the XV-5080). I'm sure it's nothing one can't work around - just have to take it easy on the resonance in some situations, I imagine.

JD800 doesn´t have anything special, the Filter was super digital sounding, the ROM contained some average samples. That was it. It just looked cool. I bought a JD800 just because of it looks But an emulation of a very average sounding synth? I don´t think that is in any business interest of developers.
Induljon a banzáj!

Both Tony Banks from Genesis and Klaus Schulze (at least since around 2003 or earltier) seemed to have used the JD-800 a lot. You could check this:

No, I'm not saying that, I think it is rather underrated. But JD-800 got both positives and negatives, like any synthsys2074 wrote:saying that the JD is overrated or just transitional is pure ignorance.
I'm pretty sure Boards Of Canada have either used the D-50 or JD-800 to create many of their signature sounds.

I hope not! Then I would have to throw my JD-800 away, before loosing my pride.. because BoC's music sounds awful.Numanoid wrote:No, I'm not saying that, I think it is rather underrated. I thought there was a version of this synth out there....

Kind of sounds like the 90's to me.

On the Roland Cloud Facebook page, they said they were working on making an emulation of it. Just like they did it with the D-50. I guess we'll have it sometimes next year.

By pure coincidence seems it made a niche for itself in the Goa Trance scene.

IKR! I keep seeing this outfit used as some kind of benchmark in music. I mean, I had never heard of them until reading in forums. So recently decided to give them a listen....FFS, who cares what they use, they sound like utter crap. My heart almost stopped beating out of sheer boredom.sys2074 wrote:
