Yes! It may be overkill if you just want simple Solina/Elka type strings, but it sounds fantastic when you start modulating some of the other parameters and the formant filter.sunhome wrote:Amber, really?

'Nuff said, Amber sounds alive and kicking, and I would always choose her over any sampler or other emulation for "classic" synth strings. My other favorite for pure synthesis is Zebra - that comb filter is great for doing string sounds. Finally, Alchemy, for manipulating strings to enter new sonic territory.pandashake wrote:Yes! But my guess is the OP didn't mean to say "synths"...

I was quite surprised by Krakli's Stringz v.2 (FREE) - we used it in the last One Synth Challenge. You can listen to my entry called "Waiting Room" HERE.
I really liked the synthetic sound of this synth. Not even attempting to emulate a real instrument, but rather having a bold and evolving sound of its own.
NB: As it was made in an early version of SynthEdit, you need to make copies of the .dll file if you want to use more than one instance.

Omnisphere is exceptional for strings--by far the best I've heard.

While I voted for Virtual String Machine (Which I believe is excellent) I came across something else which is totally remarkable :

OP said synth but looks like OP means sampled string libraries for orchestral strings
So there are sample libraries
then there are string synths that emulate classic string machines (Amber etc)
then there are string synths that emulate plucked and bowed strings (String Studio etc)

then OP shoud first decide what kind of Plugin he wants and ask then.pdxindy wrote:OP said synth but looks like OP means sampled string libraries for orchestral strings
A String Synth is clearly NOT an orchestral library of samples real Violins and stuff like that but a Synthesizer like a Solina....at least in my book that is.

Yes, String sounds great. This is a preset I made with it. I only added a little reverb on this:sunhome wrote:Pandashake said it Loomer String The audio examples don't give the whole picture of this one; download the vst and have a listen.

I would also +1 Loomer's String... I haven't tried all the other VST's mentioned in the thread but did prefer it to Amber.
