It's interesting, very odd CPU usage / latency issues though.

Extremely impressive size :D

It´s a demoscene vsti for very very small music.

http://4klang.untergrund.net

As windows executable, the music is <2kb in size and often used in 4kb or 8kb intros:
(kind of small sized multimedia realtime presentation)

it´s very limited of course. But that´s a challenge for sure ;)

Please tell me I'm not seeing things.

I went to Soundcloud to look up One Synth Challenge to see how many Charlatan entries we had so far (42 as of this post) and in my search I found this...

Or2v. If we're doing this next I have died and gone to heaven. Closest thing to Arturia's SEM. If it's true, I can't wait.

Be still my heart. LOL

But that's windows only, too.... :x

and 32 bit....

Wags what does the control voltage preset controls do on OR2?

If you're referring to CV1 and CV2 on the left hand side of the synth under the SEQ and S&H, they essentially control how the keyboard responds.

SEQ and S&H are pretty self explanatory. Flip the switch to one of those two settings and you get either a sequence pattern controlled by the levers underneath, or a sample and hold pattern. CV1 and CV2 aere your basic control voltage controls for "normal" synth playing as you would any typical synth. You can go straight CV with both modules or have one play a lead legato line while the other plays a sequence or sample and hold pattern, or any combination of the three.

It's a pretty nifty synth and I still have a hard time believing it's free.

As there are many more VST for PC than Mac it make sense that there will be PC only months, but it would be great if it never goes more than 2 months in a row without a Mac os compatible synth.

HA! Here is the thread...

Seems like a VERY promising synth! :hyper:

I tried this synth and it has realy a lot of potential. FM and RM, so many routing possibilities for LFO ...
But I also found 3 issues when tested the WIN32-version VST2.4 in Reaper:
- Decay and Release are linear and not exponential. Sounds weird and unnatural.
- My sustain pedal is not working.
- Mono mode is not working properly. Some notes are muted or you hear the sound when you release the key.

Wow, thanks, pho, that's bitter. Makes me think that every synth should be put through the ringer before it goes into an OSC!
I'm kind of shocked how many troubles are out there, felt like vsts should always be solid, hahaha...oh how naive I was. :smack:
I should add that I've only ever tried the 64 bit version and never went really into it hard.

So...hmmm...well, looks like I will have to write some synths for us all, hahaha! :hihi: ...danged, I'm just so lazy. And who knows what kind of troubles I might run into?! :scared:

Again, thanks for testing it out and I'm really sorry it has those issues. Of course, I'm also sorry about your pedal, naturally. :dog: :(

I must tell you, though, and I kind of want to tell that to everybody more and more: Mux (inside MuLab) spoils me dramatically, because it sounds fantastic, gives you access to damn near everything you might possibly want to accomplish soundwise (except FM, but I live large without it, hahahaha), it's fast enough to feel limitless and you can do things I've never seen possible with anything else out there altogether even after I still feel I barely scratched the surface.
I'm really underwhelmed with all vstis out there, free or pro, doesn't matter. If Jo (creator of MuLab) manages to hook up convolution and maybe some more elaborate scripting, he could seriously focus this business on his creation. Well, the mastering stuff in it is still a little rough for me, but you don't depend on that, of course... there I am quite impressed with even the free vsts out there (loudmax, maxwell smart, Nova64p, the reaper stuff, etc...).

Ah well, I wished I could take you all to the Mutools/MuLab threads and we have ourselves a field day there! :D

I'm still going to think about writing my own vst, because I have a really wicked idea that I've already tried in my own little sound engine some years ago and I'm excited to find out how far it could go!!! :hyper: ...we shall see! 8-)

so if 4klang is too limited, what about it´s big brother 64klang? :)

It's completely crazy. Many times I was wondering where all the old geniuses went, remembering the crazy C=64 and Amiga times...the stuff we did back then. It felt like machines like we have today should be a source of damn near limitlessness...and there they are! Staggeringly astounding! Thanks for sharing!

Very interesting. Are you the author of the software?

bjporter: No. It´s developed by Gopher. I´m just doing demo patches and songs ;)
