Good idea.

The fact that other NI "offers" weren't yanked shortly after the transient event suggests that something is different this time. Which is probably why reasonable people are asking a reasonable question.

he said NATIVE INSTRUMENTS gifts, not other random developers' gifts. the fact of the matter is that there are still other "christmas gifts" available on the NI site.

either way, i don't really care. i have Skanner in my vst folder, as well as a backup copy because i was NOT expecting that the gift would stick around on the NI site... but still, why retract one download but not another?

This relevant info is perhaps lost on at least one person here.

Google must cleverly cherry pick for me then.

I thought we were talking about 'reasonable' people though, guess you just meant 'blinkered'.

Actually he said christmas gifts, not native instruments gifts... And he focussed, pretty damn strongly, on what 'christmas gifts' meant.

A quick Google shows that, in the context of this site, it means something as temporarily available as I was pointing out this particular instance was.

Where's the link for the Kore Christmas pack from 2008 then?

http://www.kvraudio.com/news/native_ins ... ol_1_10640

Or the one from 2009?

Nothing's lost on me because I didnt make the assumption that something would be around forever just because it was called a gift. If anything was lost on someone it was lost on you.

I guess its easier to be a big baby and start a fight with me for saying that there was a clear possibility it wasnt going to be around forever than it is to just accept that there was a clear possibility it wasnt going to be around forever.

Once again, let's continue to ignore the reported availability of other NI gifts (offers) and dwell on cherry-picked semantics.

To summarize:

1. Most recent NI gift has been pulled from site - interesting.
2. Other NI gifts from earlier years are reportedly still available - very interesting.
3. Person largely responsible for development of said gift has moved on - also very interesting and perhaps some kind of link worthy of discussion.

Discussion ensues.

4. Christmas is a transient event and Easter candy is consumable.

:hihi:

well, this entire back-and-forth was pertaining to the Native Instruments christmas gift, so i maintain that he was speaking of the NI christmas gift... *smh* :hihi:

as i mentioned: there are still other gifts from NI from the holiday season to be had from there site. Yes, there ARE some packs that are gone, you are correct..so i will mend my original statement: there are still christmas gift SYNTHS from NI on their site, so i am a little curious why Skanner is not.

you can analyze each and every sentence i write about this topic, but the fact is i will maintain my viewpoint and my curiosity. did i ever say that i feel that NI OWES people around the globe to leave Skanner online? no. but i am completely in the right to be curious as to why they leave one up, but not another - and even refuse download links to people who've already downloaded it in the past. i'm not sure why it is so difficult for some people, yourself included, to see from that perspective, but i find it amusing and i thank you for giving me a good chuckle.

I think that you are reading waaay to much into this. NI have pulled all their 'christmas gifts' from the site except Mikro Prizm (which of course is good advertising to get people to buy Prizm).

New favourite phrase? How nice.

To summarize:
1. Most recent NI gift has been pulled from site - interesting.
interesting.
2. Some but not all other NI gifts from earlier years are reportedly still available - no conclusion
ftfy.
3. Person largely responsible for development of said gift but not the previous one which is still available has moved on - no conclusion
ftfy.

"REAKTOR PRISM is the latest brainchild of Stephan Schmitt, founder of Native Instruments and the creator of REAKTOR."
4. Christmas is a transient event and Easter candy is consumable.
very interesting.

And Prism/Mikro Prism was by the same person-who-has-now-left-NI as Skanner.

You're absolutely welcome to. Just dont say that there might have been clues that something might not have been intended to be permanent, otherwise you'll be denounced as morally suspect, and forced to defend your viewpoint and curiosity by irate 'reasonable people'.

Once more, the fact that other NI gifts weren't pulled after a few months is conveniently ignored. The fact that gifts based on a defunct product were only eventually pulled is also irrelevant. And the fact that a gift based on current products (Reaktor + Prism) is still available is beside the point.

No one has all the facts, but apparently you know better than the rest of us. Good for you.

I always keep the installation files and the latest update files. Even for stuff that's not a "gift". If unforeseen events closed NI's doors tomorrow, I could still install every NI product I have, with all updates, on a new computer. (authorizing them might be problematic in such a situation though)

They've pulled gifts in the past, they will in the future. Some will whine again when they do. I'll have it on disk. :P

You're completely right. This 'christmas gift' couldnt ever have only been available temporarily. Hence it must still be available.

Dont forget to assume next year's will always be available forever and ever too, because it will, just like you've proven.

Yeah it's always worth checking both views as often designers use the B view for an alternative interface
