yep. this is quite close, indeed. and yes, zebra can do all that, in one of my commercial soundsets uhe offers i also did various emulations of stringmachines, even one eminent like with a smallstone emulation.Greedo wrote:https://soundcloud.com/rolfpaulsen/equi ... chel-jarre
Heres a cover i did some time ago with different software synths. The "analog" synth sounds and effects are all from U-He Zebra. The strings and plucks are from an Eminent 310 Kontakt sample with BigRock VST.
Doesent have any VCS 3 sound effects yet (exept for the wind), but i'm trying to do that allso with the Zebra.
I really do think that Zebra is all you need to make classic Jarre patches. (Exept for the Eminent organ, Fairlight, D50 and other digital samplers/romplers)
Hope you like it
i also did a very convincing one for kv331´s synthmaster, i believe it´s in the buildt in presets...
and yes, bigrock is an exact copy of the smallstone mk2 from 1974 and this particular original unit sounds way better and noticably different than the newer versions.
aaaand yes - this song really misses the vcs3 and synthi a fx...

Here is a little song that I made as a tribute to Jarre: l´air part I
I used Nightflight for strings and fx. Ace for bass, Predator for lead synth, Tervox for theremin and groove agent for drums:

I think that it is close to the Jarre sound.

That's a very cool track Gucky. Plenty of JMJ elements in there for sure. Nice work.Gucky wrote:Here is a little song that I made as a tribute to Jarre: l´air part I

Hi AusDisciple,
many thanks for listening.
Nearly every synth can make some Jarre sounds. When I make such a Jarre song I take different synths for every sound.
So it comes to the illusion of a synth orchestra.
I think that this is one "secret" of Jean Michel Jarre songs.

Oxygene IV (J.M.Jarre)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6pA1N4GI2I#t=389
Ensoniq ESQ1 = SQ8L
Korg Polysix = Korg Polysix
Steelphon S900 = ???
Roland TR505 = Samples
The biggest WTF moment for me was when he hit play on the TR505, I used to have one of these and it never sounded like that!
Everything you hear him do on the Korg and Ensoniq is believable. Nothing earth shattering there. The Steelphon could be replicated by quite a few things. I'd probably give Strobe a go first, but it's quite a simple sound. I think maybe even Oddity would do it easily enough. I just loaded it up to check and 'DuophonicSaws' is pretty much there (Oddity), just needs to have the detuning taken off.
Sounds like there was a touch of reverb on things too. Impressive stuff though. Never even heard of that Steelphon thing before.
I'm still trying to get over that 505. I'd try an old Korg drum machine personally if I was attempting this, before one of them.

They're definitely not 505-sounds.
Either he's running the output through some effectschain or he's using the only great 505 feature which is the 16-channel midi out to trigger some synth we can't see in the vid.

Yeah, on closer inspection, he is doing some nifty little midi triggering for sure.ThePresent wrote:They're definitely not 505-sounds.

It might be worse than you expect. He might just be using the 505 to start a midi sync of some type to some other sequencer/module.
He also doubles up on the lead line form the Steelphon. I'm not sure if it is triggering the Korg or the Ensoniq or another unseen synth, but halfway through it definitely doubles up. Funny coz that thing seems so rare and old I would be surprised if it had midi. But it does. Or CV/Gate? maybe? Don't know about these things..
Also, when he hits play on the 505 it brings in the bass sound, which is pretty much definitely not the 505 so must be triggering something else. I had one for a long time. I cut my teeth on drum programming with it. I know what it sounds like. It is probably the worst of the TR range. Or SH, or MC. You know.. Very bad samples. But as you say a great sequencer for triggering out. I used it to trigger my DX-100 for Bass.
Not slagging this guy off at all. I think it's incredible what he did. I couldn't do that if you put a gun to my head. (Well maybe press play). And it was good to see that new (old) synth - Steelphon.
Still, it makes me wonder. If he was triggering sounds from elsewhere that couldn't be seen, maybe he was using the Ensoniq as a Master keyboard and he was triggering a module? Ensoniqs always make great master keyboards, so this is not beyond the realms of possibility.
Hell, maybe he even mimed!
You can't trust anyone any more.

Yes. For me it remains the best emulation of the Eminent 310 U.Gucky wrote:Hi yessongs,
the swoosh sound on Láir part 1 is also made with the nightflight vsti.
I haven't heard the least expensive VST beating Night Flight in the exact reproduction of the famous sound of this Eminent 310!
And for only 15 dollars / 11 euros!

SuperWave synths are very good for the Jean-Michel Jarre sound. They even have demos featuring oxygen if I remember well (I may be wrong or it maybe offline now):

Equinox sounds great ! But... It is not 64-bit at this time. Kind of a bummer
Hopefully they are working on 64-bit VST version.
Any feedback from the developer if this is in the works ?
Thanks,
