the sound compared to a hardware Phaser?
For example, ArtsAcoustic's BigRock does a perfect job of emulating the vintage Small Stone pedals. As I said earlier, the new re-issued Small Stone is thinner & more metallic, the sweep is less thick and the overall outcome is that it sounds less like a full bodied phase and more like an add-on effect - all of this is subtle of course.
You do not need hardware small stones, you do not need two small stones, you only need 1, some good strings, a steady hand and a bit of patience. No go out and try it.

I don't know did anyone mentioned but there is so cool ensemble at Reaktor user library. You get all string dream synthesis as well as effects. Just listen demo of mp3 i am posting here.
And best of all ensemble is free. You don't have to pull more money for additional 3rd party phaser or anything everything is done in Reaktor. Be sure to check other ensembles of this developer IMHO it's great and remarkably close especially when you take in to account that this ensemble is/was created five years ago..(a lot changed since then but good thing is good thing hehe)

download ensemble here (if you own Reaktor and NI account)

This is exactly what I mentioned in the beginning of this thread. Kind of strange it didn't receive any comment... Maybe being a Reaktor ensemble is putting everyone off. But so is Monark, which so many people are raving about nowkmonkey wrote:I don't know did anyone mentioned but there is so cool ensemble at Reaktor user library. Night Flight has replaced the Reaktor ensemble as the best Eminent strings.

having looked at the eminents (Jarre uses/d a 310?) the
218 seems a better bet, at least than some of the 300 series.
excellent sound. it was just HUGE, of course, and was sticking
notes (very loud) - loads of buttons on it, i could have spent
hours - and it sounded fantastic. no, i wasn't up for parting
with 90eu and finding a home for it, let alone loading it in
the van - and it went for...25 euros. somebody with lots of
space got a good deal.(think Lonnie Liston Smith strings, you
could play with that for hours on end, oh i said that already..)

Cause I have 3 Keyboards (XS 8, PSR-9000, Midi), I don't want invest
in further hardware.
I'm convienced, that in the future the VSTs will reproduce orginal
sounds (also from the past in the 70/80ties) on best way.
Example are the Korg Emulations. I can't hear any difference to the hardware.
Also today exists a lot of VSTi which emulate some famous sounds from
the past. Problem: you have to have nearlly "100" VSTs, cause from my
experience all/each of the VSTs have only a few number of the sounds
I'm searching for. There is no VST, which concentrate all the famous
sounds in there pads/patches. Mostly I only use 5% of the sounds
for liveplaying. The rest you can forget.
I hope, that on one day somebody develop a VST there you like
80% of the sounds/patches
Today it's a lot of cherry picking work!!!!

i think you are right there, but it doesn't take a nice
GUI, or even a similarity to the original instrument, in
physical or even structural resemblance. you just have
to step away from all you know and go experimenting with
any plugin you have that approaches what you want. you
can get 'vintage' sounds from a lot of plugins quite
easily. and in the same way, you can mess around with
hardware and get 'inferior' sounds, so... wdf.

I not produce songs with DAWs. I only like to improvise/
play live. It's a hard work, to identify on each VSTi
the best sounds. I'm glad, in order to do so and organize it,
that I have Cantabile Performer 2.0.
Cause so many players looking for famous sound, I'm wonder,
that no VSTi developers or sound designers see there a
big market since years.
You have to have so much VSTi and Soundpools in order to
select the 2-5% of each, there the sounds comes very near.

Heres a cover i did some time ago with different software synths. The "analog" synth sounds and effects are all from U-He Zebra. The strings and plucks are from an Eminent 310 Kontakt sample with BigRock VST.
Doesent have any VCS 3 sound effects yet (exept for the wind), but i'm trying to do that allso with the Zebra.
I really do think that Zebra is all you need to make classic Jarre patches. (Exept for the Eminent organ, Fairlight, D50 and other digital samplers/romplers)
Hope you like it

There's a commercial bank for Synthmaster by Nori Ubukata which has a decent number of Jean Michel Jarre signature sounds. Here's the demo -

Synthmaster demo can be downloaded from http://www.kv331audio.com/ and there always seems to be a discounted offer floating around KVR on the adverts. It's a really decent synth in my opinion.

the original!
Zebra I have for long times.
I don't have Kontakt as full version. But according to the Eminent
I load "a lot" of VST and bought some. They come very near to the
original Eminent. The problem with most of the Eminent Emulation is
the "big phasing" effect. Mostly the original e.g. Oxygen-Sound ist
"much bigger" and the phasing slower...most of the VSTi can't do it
so "big".
