Some almost invisible dropshadows (on knobs for example) will go a long way in making a flat GUI betterdavidguda wrote:The flatness in the design I suppose is a lot due to my personal preference for it, and it is all the rage in the web design world nowadays!

I suppose I could do some experimenting with simple drop shadows to see if it could work interface wise.

Trying out some with some mild (I still want it to remain rather flat) shadows on the knobs and boxes in the GUI.
Showing you guys a screenshot, what do you think, better? worse? same?
The modmatrix knobs are also bigger than last screenshot and some other stuff.

Subtle, but better You could also try to add a rim to the knobs while still keeping them flat - that way they will look more like gauge displays. Just a thought
You're the only one that can decide exactly what type of GUI would fit the character and sound of your synth, but IMO that orange doesn't click that well. I'd rather try a rainbow type - for ex going from grey or white to red or any other colour and change the background from flat blue-grey to a metallic or texturised one. This kind of design may be all the rage these days as you said and may work very well for websites and stuff, but IMO not so well when it comes to VST GUIs - they need depth, dimension, textures. IMO Knobs should look like knobs, and not like pie charts
Overall the GUI looks like it has a lot of wasted space in the upper side and really crowded in the lower part (with the smaller knobs and all.

Personally, I like the GUI the way it is.
Odd name, though.
Looking forward to the Windows version!

Well, the name is a bit odd yes. Euterpe is musical muse in greek mythology.
The name EuterpeXL kind of suggests that it is "just" a bigger version of the Euterpe synth, and it is quite alot more. It has been the working name and just never got replaced..kind of.
Coming up with a good name is hard.... Spliney?

Now that I know the meaning behind the name, I dig it a lot better.davidguda wrote:Well, the name is a bit odd yes. Euterpe is musical muse in greek mythology.

I was thinking about marketing it with "Euterpe just got a big sister, and she is so fat your mama looks skinny!"
Now in a biological sense "getting" a big sister might not really make sense but, hey it sound good

New beta nr 9 is out.
It got improved "3d" look in interface, sorts presets when loading.
Shows comments in presets browser. Password field shows dots instead of cleartext when not selected. Some improved user settings handling and a little bugfixings.

Although still very subtle, it's a great improvement IMO, you know That extra bit of depth makes all the difference Congratzdavidguda wrote:It got improved "3d" look in interface

Thanks, the "3d" part is intentionally kept subtle. I even put a user setting in the right click menu to turn it on/off.

Yeah, I thought so, but like I said, it adds dimension You can keep it minimalistic and stylish at the same time

A while since I last updated progress here. Last days have been some twiddling with looks of the synth. I have added a couple of options for the user to customize its looks.
An example of all features turned on with color set "prima donna" (ahem).
