I need a free synth VSTi with lowish CPU usage.

It has to have all the basics wave forms: Square/pulse, Sine, Saw, Triangle, possibly noise

Polyphonic (or both)
ADSR

Pitch wheel enabled.

Can you guys help me out? Thanks.

We had this same question a few months back. Some of the top ones were:

Synth1
Charlatan
Firebird
TyrellN6 (Also check out Podolski and Zebralette by the same developer.)

Post

charlatan is very nice
u-he tyrell ( although heavier on cpu )
Eyeball exchanging
Soul calibrating ..frequencies

Post

Oh, yeah scratch TyrellN6.

I'd recommend Oatmeal with the great Limeflavor GUI and Atlantis by Jeremy Evers (although it needs a bit more CPU)...

EDIT: Don't forget to say if you need a 32-bit or a 64-bit version...

32 bit. Also I forgot to say I'd like it to come with a LP filter.

charlatan looks really close but I don't see a sine wave option.
I just tried synth1 and it's a bit more complicated than I'd like it to be.

You could also try Feldspar by Contralogic Productions...

Doh :dog: I felt like I might had forgotten some! Voyager, too, might fit all those requirements, though it's buried somewhere in the Wayback Machine afaik.

When you want something for free, you can't afford to be so particular...

Charlatan is a great sounding synth...

Go with that one and be grateful

Or you could get the free version of Rapture with Computer Music 200...

Rapture is a powerful and flexible synth...Very under rated...

That is the bargain of the year

No auto tune...

Another great synth - one of the best freeware synths - (if you're still on XP or Vista):

Freehand Free by Angular Momentum:
(and great for learning how different waveforms sound)

Give these a try, especially STS26/STS33/Alphatron

http://www.hgf-synthesizer.com/nfg---pro-vsti-free.html

That page has a lot of wild freebies in 32bit.

This one too:

My favorites are the JP7A and K1.3 but quite a few good for free ones there.

Don't pass up synth1 just because it looks complicated and ugly. This shows it in action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cj9VBb1t ... 2IQO-T6QAo

So far I've been getting the hang of it, and it's probably the best so far.

Also whoever suggested Firebird 2, it doesn't show up in reaper for some reason

Oh and thanks for Freehand, I was checking out wavetable synths as well.

Substance
Swierk
Quiver
Rez 3

How could I forget it?

HYDi (but it needs a bit more CPU)...
