One-Synth-Challenge Website

Since One-Synth-Challenge is a monthly competition, OSC 60 will therefore mark its 5 year anniversary and to celebrate, the competition will be a free for all choice of one synth, freeware or commercial!

RULES:
Submissions MUST comply with ALL the rules HERE
+ Any one synth can be used, free or commercial
+ No samples other than single cycle waveforms allowed even if the synth has a feature to use those. Oscillators only please.
+ The name of the synth used must be included in the track title at SoundCloud and in the forum announcement post like this: Artist - Track Title (Synth Used)
+ Entries must be submitted before 1st March (KVR time)

All in all a simple piece this one is. Nothing complicated or crazy going on. But it did give me a chance to pull out one of my absolute favorite VAs.

I used 8 instances of Native Instruments' FM8. All the sounds were made by me specifically for this piece. I used Reaper. All effects, mixing, automation, etc. was done with the synth's parameters (ie. I rendered this "faders up"). I did throw an instance of eaReckon's FR-Comp 87 on the master bus to even up the dynamics a little so I could compete with some of the "dancy-er" entries

In case anyone's interested, this is a serial composition using the row: 0-1-5-8-4-3-11-6-10-2-7-9. Everything except the bass drum follows your standard matrix execution.

Given the opportunity, I wanted to support a really dedicated freebie developer (instead of jumping in the cool commercial plugins boat), and Andrew sure fits the profile - what he managed to do with this synth is very impressive. On the other hand HYDi is a darling of mine since it was the spark that ignited my "audio demos for freebie plugins" campaing so a dedicated song for the new version was on my to do list anyway

I only hope my "creation" will rise to the challenge of showing what HYDi is capable of

I needed to reupload the track due to noticing some stray drum sample in the previous version. Redid that instance using pure synthesis. In addition I mapped velocity to dampening dynamics in the guitar patch.

In all honesty the 1st one was put together in a hurry to start the ball rolling for that DC, but since then I've wanted to make a proper audio demo track for your synth 'cause IMO is well worth

I'm glad you like this one - it's a little "thank you" note for creating and sharing HYDi with us
