Synthsquad Amber might be worth checking out! It's a bit older but i think it does what you want.

He said that he is looking for an alternative to AMBER which is unusable on his system.V0RT3X wrote:Synthsquad Amber might be worth checking out! It's a bit older but i think it does what you want.

I got both Amber from Synth Squad and Xils Lab V+ where both seem to be really nice. Besides that i also got some sample based stuff and the paraphonic mode in my Waldorf Pulse 2.
Not really software in means of VST but the upcoming Waldorf Streichfett hardware synth will be a DSP based String Synth (not sure if there are many or any other DSP based hardware synths of that type...) with a proce of an expensive software synth (around 249 € incl. VAT).
Streichfett is not an exact emulation of a certain vintage string synth while it is inspired by some of them. It will include an Ensemble and a Solo section (like in the Delta) which could be layered and/or split. Opposing to fixed presets like in e.g. the Solina the ensemble section uses a knob to continuously morph between the sounds.
The "Animate" FX in the effectss section could modulate the position of this morphing.

I know it's been mentioned previously in this thread but definitely Loomer String for me. (I preferred it over Amber)

Thank you!WOK wrote:2010 May 04BlackWinny wrote:While we are at it... could you tell me what is the exact date of the last update?
And then there is the little brother ESTRIMA from 2013-01-30
I'm gonna add the date... and also a new entry in my other list (Sounds of the 80's) for another synth of your collection which very representative of the last 70's early 80's : SAM.
I take the opportunity to point a little error in some of your pages (for example the page for Cromina). You write "... strings sound of the 60s and 70s. Solina, Crumar and Logan where the names...".
In fact it would be far more exact to write "... strings sound of the 70s and 80s. Solina, Crumar and Logan where the names..." because none of all these string synths did exist in the 60's, they all were made during the second half of the 70's. The Logan (Hohner) String Melody I was created in 1973, the Logan (Hohner) String Melody II (the most known) was created in 1977, the Solina String Ensemble was created in 1974, the Solina String Synthesizer was created in 1975, and the Crumar Orchestrator (called Multiman-S in Europe) which was the best known model of all the Crumar life was created in 1977. None of these mythic sounds did exist in the 60's. In the 60's the bands used essentially the Vox Continental Combo Organ, the Farfisa Combo Organ, the Mellotron keyboards, and all the declinations of the Hammond organs.
So it would be more exact in your pages (not only for the Cromina) to say that they are focused on the 70's-80's. It simply a suggestion... but 10 years of difference is not negligible...
Without forgetting the KVR product pages, of course...
I'm gonna add the date you gave me for the Cromina in the list (and mention Estrima in the comment). And also I'm gonna add an entriy for UNCLE SAM enhanced Synth Module, a SEM emulation (and mention its two brothers in the comment) in my other list (Sounds of the 80's).
Your Dronos Drone Sound Generator Plugin reminds me my twelve year old in 1971. Nostalgy...

Interesting little thread, full of synth-string aficionados.
Glad to see these things still enjoyed.

loving all these suggestions and demos of these great strings makes me almost want to give up guitar and just play strings, except I love the mixture of both.
Santana's Europa had great string synth sound in it.

It's always an emotion to hear this awesome tune that I have heard for the first time at the radio at the spring of 1976, it's been almost 40 years...yessongs wrote:loving all these suggestions and demos of these great strings makes me almost want to give up guitar and just play strings, except I love the mixture of both.

Nostalgy, still nostalgy... All these wonderful years...
And Zappa? Who knows Zappa in the new generations? A genius of the guitar, all those of my age remember him, but he was also a virtuoso of the... Synclavier!

also excellent classic use of string synths in this tune as well. Jan Hammer programmed some excellent synth sound in this as well.
IMHO its even better than Europa and a similar but better IMHO guitarist that I love even more. Di Meola is a chops monster and he turned me onto Astor Piazzolla who's compositions are excellent as well in fact I am working on relearning this one might even record it when I get around to learning all the parts.

I guess I'm more interested in string synth more for the way they make the sounds (rather than the sounds they make), but I really appreciate BlackWinny making and maintaining this exhaustive list, and for everyone else who offered minor corrections. I learned quite a bit from reading this and listening to the songs.BlackWinny wrote:So here is the result of two days searching for the best emulations of String Synths. The things seem now a bit clearer...
Isn't there a way for KVR to make this a "sticky" or something so we can always find it and refer to it? You know, like that "Old Free VSTi Gems from the Past" (but without that thread's 764 pages!). I think a lot of people could get some use out of this.

It would be an excellent sticky thread, yes, if the administrators agree, and there is another notable argument very neat... it is that this thread has never known any quarrel! It has always been nicely friendly without any exception since its beginning. If they read it, thank you to them to consider that option of making a sticky of it. But if there isn't any admin in the readers, I don't know how to ask them. If someone knows...planetearth wrote:I guess I'm more interested in string synth more for the way they make the sounds (rather than the sounds they make), but I really appreciate BlackWinny making and maintaining this exhaustive list, and for everyone else who offered minor corrections. And there was also in the recent days my work to make a very complete list of the "sounds of the 80's" which had been also very appreciated and which led to an as friendly and as enthralling thread which could be a sticky as well.

Great Thread!
I am somewhat late to the party.. but here are the tunes that inspired my journey into string machine territory and finally led to the development of my own Night Flight VSTi:
Bob Marley & The Wailers - Night Shift (starting form 0:30)

Horace Andy - Spying Glass
