Wasn't aware of this particular Reaktor freebie. It sounds good. Thanks.murnau wrote:Reaktor ens http://alex-shore.com/jp-4c/
Best vst for Supersaw?

I eventually ended up using Dune 2 as main lead (preset Anjuna - FTW!). Sometimes turn to Sylenth 1 or Serum for more control.

My current favourites for dedicated Supersaw/Hypersaw are Electra 2.1, Diva, Waldorf Nave (plugin) and DUNE 2.
Besides that i also got samples of a real Virus TI Hypersaw (sold mine this year) in my Blofeld and lasi in PPG Wave 3.V.

"I don't always use Supersaws. But when I do, I prefer..."
Omnisphere does an interesting one using the Jupiter 8 in unison mode soundsource (supersaw derived from real analog, an interesting twist). I got some supersaw plucks I rather liked from Diva as well...did a shootout once for a part in a song between Diva, Sylenth, Zebra and something else and found the attacks on Diva just sounded a little more textured and interesting. Dune 2 seems to hold its own there too.

"Supersaw" sounds always the same in every synth, for me. At least, I cannot hear any difference at all among Sylenth1, Massive, UltraAnalog, Dune, Omnisphere, Vanguard, Hive, Synthmaster, Electra2 etc. Unless you mean "efx" or "filter" used to change shade. In this case, it is just a question of tastes. Mines are for: Electra2 (the most "thrilling" ones) and UltraAnalog (the "cleanest" ones, so to speak). Oh, and Sylenth1, of course... And Massive.

I wouldn't characterize it that way, but yes, the JP8000 was the original supersaw. I still have mine in a gig bag, buried underneath a table behind a mound of boxes.mhog wrote:Wasn't supersaw introduced by Roland (Jp8000) as an "ultra-aliased" dirty patch in the 90s?Vectorman wrote:supersaw derived from real analog

Yep, which is why a "supersaw" derived from a multi-sample of 8 real VCO's beating away at each other on each note is sort of a different take on it.mhog wrote:Wasn't supersaw introduced by Roland (Jp8000) as an "ultra-aliased" dirty patch in the 90s?Vectorman wrote:supersaw derived from real analog

Tyrell N6 with full unison is great as well if you don't want to buy Diva but still want a analog sounding supersaw. You have to use multiple instances though for polyphonic sounds but it works great.

Just to push this thread a little closer to naming every synth... if you have a 32-bit Windows DAW handy and just want to toy with a reasonable facsimile of the JP supersaw sound, CFA Sound's freebie is actually quite good (IMHO) http://shop.cfa-sound.com/search-supersaw/
And for something a little closer to what I suspect the JP supersaw was actually a cheap digital imitation of, PG-8x is a fantastic free Roland emulation with both unison saws and chorus:

Ultimately, it comes down to personal taste. Different synths have different supersaw algorithms, and different people like different things. I would suggest demoing the synths people have listed so far and finding what you like best.
BTW, did anyone mention Synthmaster? That would be another good one to check out.
One last note, Hive has 3 different sound engine modes, each with a different supersaw flavor. Definitely recommend demoing that one first.

And as i always say in supersaw threads: you can build your own supersaw even on a synth that doesn't have one, like some Minimoog or any other vintage mono synth emulation.
Just spawn as many instances of the synth as you need or as your CPU can carry (i like an uneven number to have 1 center perfect pitch).
Detune them by few cents to maybe about 30 cents and pan them.
For example -30,-20,-10,-5,0,+5,+10,+20,+30
You can even make them move around if the synth has a random LFO with smooth ramps between values.

Talking of the supersaw, Mastrcode Music also has something in the pipeline: https://www.facebook.com/MastrcodeMusic Hopefully he dropped Synthedit, so it'll be available in 64-bit too. And hopefully Access Music don't sue him.
