Yup, that's allowed, but of course use good judgement because that thing is a beast, and could utterly annihilate any semblance of Crisalys's sound.DARTelectronicMUSIC wrote:I did read the rules and would like to check forums opinion:
I understand that VST Amp Rack (in Cubase) effect is allowed (as long as chorus, phaser, flanger is not used). Is this OK?

This is my one synth challenge 84 entry that I did yesterday. I know it is not much,
but towards the end of the project it got really heavy with just 5 instances and I just
did not feel like messing with it more.
There are a couple limiters on the song and effector instances as reverbs.
Thanks go to MaxSynths and BJporter for making the kick at KVR forums!
The FLP file is at: (78 Aluode OSC 84 Crisalys.zip)

Alrighty, got a 'sorta kinda' snare. For this one it's 2 patches - a top and bottom. See the attachment.
Thank you yeager for the hi hat! I used a modified version for the top of the snare.
I bussed them together and added 1) reverb 2) eq boost around 250 3) then 4) compressor, then 5) more reverb, and finally 6) a default limiter
A little demo of the snare at the beginning here of this tune (also added kick layers, and used Yeager's hi hat):

Glad to see a synth of mine used in the OSC!
Thanks Brian for the nice words and happy OSC to all of you.
I've spotted some comments about how to play a note without triggering the sequencer... just turn off the sequencers LOL (the led next to the SEQS label actually is an ON/OFF switch). And yes, the "MLP" switch on the top stands for mono, legato, poly.
Concerning the THRU switch: when ON the synth is receiving notes both from the sequencer and the MIDI keyboard. This means for example that you can layer the sequenced sound with what you are playing. When off you are just triggering the sequencer, obviously.
Have fun!
Cheers,
Max

Here is my entry "Sabbatical" , done during last few days. It may not bee too fancy, but it was interesting to learn characterful Crisalys!
https://soundcloud.com/aaltodoc/dartele ... ticalosc84
It was made in Cubase 8.5. 20 Instances of Crisalys VST. Cubase VST Amp Rack on main solo. Compressor, limiter and reverb on main out. Cubase Roomworks reverb on some tracks.

@bjporter. thanks for the snare example! Layering multiple instances seems to be the way to go this time round.

Snare was a bit of a challenge, yes, so thought I'd post my approach as well.
I've employed a bit of reverb, not for room effect but to get the noise to decay nicely.
Also a bit of compressor for some extra attack.
Snare1B is just to add a bit of bottom and tone. Basically a kick patch.
I've used D3 but other notes and octaves will change the timbre.
If playing fast, make sure to keep space between the notes, otherwise the pitch envelope will not reset (yielding interesting effects).
No sound example, you'll just have to try it yourself
Good luck with Crisalys, y'all! Not yet sure what to think of it, myself...

oh cool, snare patches!
I came here to ask how to go about making snares with no noise generator, and there's already some examples!
Awesome, thanks guys
Kicks came along pretty easy for me, but I couldn't figure out anything that sounded good for a snare or hi-hat yet. I'll have to take a look at these and see if I can get some better ideas

Haven't tried yet, but it seemed to be the natural progression of things. Will see what I can come up with..bjporter wrote:Sure, I can do a clap:Tjgoa wrote:impressive snares guys claps anyone? will share some closed and open hats when i'm on my other pc, tomorrow

If you can haz snare, you can haz clap: shorten the env maybe, amplify with distortion, and apply a tight filter (low and high, focus ~1k-2k maybe, I forget, plus of course fit your mix). Then mess with delay and reverb. After that, an entire evening is gone... totes worth it though.

Percussions are a bit difficult with this one. I've managed a few kicks, hats, snare and claps, could be usable with a bit of processing - or maybe someone can use them for a starting point.
