Yes, several init presets was my recommendation to Xils-Lab for some of their synths, and it worked well.

Actually you're right, the preset that I refer to is not simply *an* init preset -among possibly other ones-, but *the* init preset, ie the one wich is loaded when you fist launch the drum machine.

Anyway, the poll clearly indicates that 3/4 people prefer a blank pattern to start with.

Thnaks to all.

Ah, so it's the launch or start or default preset :)
Init presets have little to do with launching a plugin, I can initialize a running instance again and again.

No pattern, just some clean, malleable sounds. That's like buying canvases with pencil outlines of images drawn on them.

Reset controls to default position and empty the sequencer. :)

It does actually make sense to distinguish three different types of "init":
  1. The "power-on" state
  2. "Clear" or "Init", a neutral preset (blank) you can load to start programming
  3. "Reset" or "Default", the value to reset parameters to, usually zero is better than the neutral position
For example talking about synthesizers, "Init" might be a plain square. "Reset" however would probably be silent, with all oscillators disabled, mix levels and envelope times at zero. The "power on" state might load up any preset that is a user favorite though.

For a drum machine, "Power-on" might be again a nice pattern that is ideally user selected. "Init" would need to be zero (no pattern) and "Reset" very similar in this case. One difference might be in accent/velocity, "init" would be near a "full" level while "reset" would be zero.

While we're talking about software there is absolutely no reason whatsoever that these can't all be user defined.
