It would be pretty disappointing if Massive X is not the follow-up to Massive.

I doubt that.I can't imagine why they would use the name yet again for something different. I was only joking above, I'm pretty sure that this is related to Massive, the synthesizer.
i'm kinda joking as well. but NI does seem to put a lot more effort, these days, into sample-oriented products, rather than spending time updating software that needs fixing.
No doubt they've changed their MO. They have been giving Reaktor a lot of love and I hope that they've done the same with Kontakt. Honestly, I like they are doing more development in Reaktor and Kontakt. Their standalone instrument plugins are just old at this point and if the choice is between updating them and making Reaktor and Kontakt more powerful, then I'm all for the latter.

You just made me think about FM9.

I think FM7 sounded better than FM8 but that is probably down to the superior FM7 GUI. :help:
I'm absolutely with you.

forget it
Yes, but, there is something that will be included in the next release of Komplete called "Massive X." AFAIK, NI has two products with the Massive name. The synth that everyone knows about and a Reaktor ensemble that is a completely different thing. So we're all speculating on whether Massive X is somehow a new version of Massive (the synth), or some other product not related to Massive (the synth), and how they might be related.

I agree, I don't think that there's much hope for their old line of products, they seemed to have abandoned them and are not turning back.

That they have listed a separate library for 'Massive X' tells me either (a) Massive X is a replacement for the synth and contains some form of deeper sampling necessitating a dedicated library or (b) It is just an upgrade to the Reaktor ensemble with a larger library of patterns.

If I had to guess.. it would be all on 'b' sadly.

Oh yes I actually used FM7 when it looked like a serious synth. FM8 looks like a computer software toy to me. I could never get into applying it in projects based of the appearance and interaction with it. So it just collects virtual dust along with the other NI synths (outside of Massive).

Also sadly it seems NI have found their financial niche in sample based sound generation and various effects. Therefore I don't expect them to come back to the synth line.. but I'd love to be surprised by them.

<SNPID>140 Massive
<SNPID>MXE Massive X ???
<SNPID>MXL Massive X Library ???

I guess that I forgot that there were not only two entries for Massive X but also the existing Massive as well. I doubt that it's for the Massive Reaktor ensemble though. I also doubt that they would try to replace Massive with Kontakt unless Kontakt 6 has some serious upgrades.

Massive is heavily featured in their Maschine expansions so it seems that it's important to their ecosystem.

Would have to be some huge update for me to go to Kontakt 6 tbh, cannot see it.

They do seem to be ignoring the soft synth line now, which is a shame, Massive and FM8 both have played their part in a lot of work, i'd love to see Pro 53 revamped and brought back. But reaktor ensembles are more popular, and seem to be the way. They know their sales figures, so they will go with whats more popular.

Whole industry has stalled somewhat, but how many times can you re-invent the wheel anyway.
Don't trust those with words of weakness, they are the most aggressive

That list is interesting, im curious what Kontakt 6 will bring and upcoming seem to be distortion FXs.

Most people who use 3rd party libs will update sooner or later, since they all get released and updated to be compatible only with the latest version. You could just have Player 6 if they're all Kontakt Player libs though.

Sounds like we're not imminent with Kontakt 6 however if we're it's not in beta yet. That either means that although this list looks and feels genuine to me, actual release might still be quite a way off, or they'll do what they did in K10 (as I recall), and release with a voucher to upgrade once the latest version of Kontakt is finally ready to go.

I'd guess that whatever Massive X is, is quite a different animal to the current version, since a) the original Massive is still present and correct in the list and b) there looks like a library which suggests sampled content too, so could be a wavetable / sample hybrid. Maybe this will be NI's very belated answer to Omni, who knows...

I'm not sure whether that needs more funny or I need more clue?
Because it's seemed for years now that we'll be waiting "until the cows come home" for a new version of Massive (a very long time). Maybe "We'll have to call the fire department to get all those pigs down from the treetops" would've worked better.

Ah, I see, so a little of both then.

What's this Massive X that everybody's talking about?

Nobody knows.

The name has shown up in an XML file in Native Access that appears to be for an upcoming release for Komplete 12. So, we know that Kontakt 6 is coming out and that there will be something called Massive X.

We are speculating what it's all about, nobody here knows for certain, or if they do, they are under NDA and won't tell us.

In summary...

It's listed as being in Komplete 12 in the NativeAccess.xml file
It has an associated Library
It will not replace Massive, but be a new instrument

The rest is all conjecture.
