Want to try out your skills in other contests / competitions /challenges?
  • DiHalt Demoscene competitions
  • Indaba - Has a mix of popular and indie artists with various contests like remixing and song writing. Some people from OSC have had success here.
  • KVR Mix Challenge (see stickies) - Who can mix a song the best (Without adding extra recordings /musical additions)? Each person starts out with the same stems.
  • Music Cafe (KVR, see stickies) - A thematic monthly competition. Use recording, real instruments, synths and samples.
  • RemixComps - An aggregator for remix contests from a variety of artists and genres (mostly EDM) - indie and popular.
  • Skio Music Contests - Lots of remixes you can join (Mostly EDM) - big prizes.
  • Soundevotion (SDCOMPO) Competition - Even longer running than the OSC, the SDCOMPO is even more niche in that you must use a tracker, and set of specific effects. Great community.

Having an issue with this.
Rapid automation of a parameter with GUI open causes huge CPU increase. Jumps from about 3% to 28%. :o
Also causes all meters and other graphical elements to freeze/stutter during playback.
Something about having a knob moving causes the issue.
With the generic Reaper GUI the CPU returns to 3%.
Close the Blooo GUI and the CPU goes back down.

What I was attempting was a kick. Four 1/8th notes looping while designing the sound.
Decided to automate pitch, so basically downward ramps every quarter note. This is when issue started.
The automation makes the pitch knob move repetitively which seems to be causing the huge CPU jump.
Not had this issue before.
If this is unclear I can provide an example video.
Win10 x64, Reaper 6.XX x64, i5-3330, 8gb ram, GTX-970, UC-33, Panorama P4, Wharfedale Diamond 8.2 and JVC HA-RX700

Well, this seems a lot more straightforward than the lats one, also going to pay more attention to sound design this time. Already laid out some clips inspired by a few presets, going to focus fully on sound design after I have a quick and dirty arrangement done.

Well there are three envelopes and LFOs, could you use them in the place of automation? I can't imagine you're utilizing all of them for a kick.

Folks,

Brian (bjporter) informed me this morning (my time zone :hihi:) since I had no clue of what's going on...
Useless to say that I am honored and speechless.

Thanks so much to the KVR + OSC community and of course to Brian. :tu:

Enjoy, have fun + Cheers!

My Entry "Cheetos"

https://soundcloud.com/antti-luode/cheetos

As always, very Cheesy song made using preset sounds, since I do not do sound design.. :)

It uses 7 instances of the Blooo.

As someone said automation makes it super heavy so I did not use any.

Other than that. There are few limiters and effectors as reverb.

I made it with FLstudio. The FLP file is at: (119 Cheetos.zip)

Confirmed - when the blooo UI is open, CPU skyrockets on parameter automation. :borg:
Workaround: Close blooo editor when using automation.

I will see what I can do...

Cheers, Björn

I could also just run the generic GUI.
Not really the issue though.
It should take automation without it dragging my system to a crawl with the GUI open. It automates fine with the GUI closed. That makes it seem to me like a bug of some kind.
Plus, it took me maybe 20 seconds to use the automation to get a sound I was satisfied with. Several minutes of fussing with the built in envelopes and LFOs and the sound is still not what I had via automation. And that could be 100% operator error I readily admit since the LFO was doing exactly the opposite of what I wanted for awhile :hyper:

Edit: Ah Björn is already on it as I was typing. Awesome. :tu:

Yeah, another Full bucket synth!
Looks promissing.

But, I still found some strange things.
I am working with Reaper v5.33. When I use my sustain pedal, the sound will never stop, until I close the synth or I change the voice number.
And when I want to use the LFO1 amount (AM) with the wheel, I have to set the knob to +100 to have no vibrato with the MW down and full vibrato with the MW up. But full is way too much. No way to adjust the maximum. As soon as I reduce the AM value lower than +100 I always hear the vibrato without using the MW. Setting the knob to Zero I have full vibrato, no matter where the MW is positioned!

Anyone else having such problems?

Will check the Sustain thing, too.

The LFO AM works as designed; you have to set the vibrato amount at the Oscillator FM1/FM2. :-)

Cheers, Björn

I love this synth so far, will definitely check out more of full buckets stuff :D As per usual though I still suck at synth percussion which sucks since the song i am working on is of the kind that needs it :( (well ideally I would use drum samples for it in this case but you can't do that on here!) I could take the easy road and do a percussion light genre like some ambient derivative but that would be too easy and i probably wouldnt win anyway since im sure whoever is going to do the judging is going to favor more complex stuff since that shows the person knows what they are doing better (unlike me!!!)
