Postby kevvvvv; Thu Apr 05, 2018 1:28 pm which are the best reaktor instruments

Apart from Monark, I've not used any reaktor instruments or effects. All looks a bit baffling, unless I can find a day to spare trawling though endless "names of stuff".

It'd be nice if you could suggest one or two staples, reaktorplugs you keep returning to, time and again.

In Factory Library, Steampipe or Steampipe 2
the original has been around forever.

it can behave kind of 'hot' or super-sensitive but that's just a matter of being careful with control.
it's like dealing in the noise blasts in wind instruments but with superpowers

I am a die hard reaktor developer, here's some of my work and a few recommendations.

Lazerbass plus (Expanded Version of Lazerbass)

https://www.native-instruments.com/en/r ... show/6997/

Hyroglyphicus (Massive Multimode wavetable synth with Analog modeled, digital, additive etc...)

https://www.native-instruments.com/en/r ... how/10853/

Aries (Multimode synth - early predecessor to Hyroglyphicus)

https://www.native-instruments.com/en/r ... show/6861/

Hyroglyphicus Drums (Drum Synth, Sampler and Sequencer with swing and Funk Power)

https://www.native-instruments.com/en/r ... show/7507/

That's just some of my reaktor builds.

Mosaic_ does some nice stuff as well

Ifrastructure (Basic type of synth but it's cpu efficient and it sounds great

https://www.native-instruments.com/en/r ... show/8231/

Redux (basically Infrastructures son)

https://www.native-instruments.com/en/r ... show/8433/

Accelerator (Drum Synth)

https://www.native-instruments.com/en/r ... show/8283/

Salamander Anagram makes great stuff.

Anagram 1.03 (Modular style synth with patching cables.

https://www.native-instruments.com/en/r ... how/11409/

Pong X (Modular interface synth)

https://www.native-instruments.com/en/r ... show/8079/

Optimus Prime (Live Audio FX system)

https://www.native-instruments.com/en/r ... show/8097/

Uwe G. Hoenig

Grip (Best Granular synth in all of the Reaktor UL)

https://www.native-instruments.com/en/r ... show/7775/

Trevor Gavilan (Buchla emulation of sorts)

https://www.native-instruments.com/en/r ... how/11077/

Those are some of the finer point highlights of the Reaktor UL, in my eyes at least.

I regard the Blocks framework as one instrument. Its the best virtual modular synthesiser currently available, years ahead the others.

Prism (NI-made Reaktor synth) is a unique modal synth producing sounds with acoustic and physical qualities, it has a learning curve but we'll worth it.

There's a wealth of options in the user library, some are fantastic and I use some occasionally, but those two above are integral parts of my "minimalistic" 6 VSTi setup.

As far as the sound, the factory blocks library is amazing. Of course it’s mono but such is the way of modular if this style.

As far as the factory ensemble library, photone, metaphysical function, steampipes, and I like the simple weird ones like gaugear, travelizer, skrewell etc. some grooveboxes like sinebeats and those other loop manglers.

As far as separate products based on Reaktor, I’d say prism is the coolest.and if you’re into the type of sound, razor is pretty interesting.

That’s not even getting into the user library which obviously has too many gems to mention. Look for highest rated all time or most downloaded all time to check out some good ones.

Ha - there's a secret crazy world of reaktor lovers i never even knew about 8)

Jon says
my "minimalistic" 6 VSTi setup

And I'm a bit like that.

I mostly stick to 2 synths, 2 drum machines, kontakt and one other - and now maybe a reaktor jobbie.

I always avoided reaktor as I've no inclination to build synths (I'd be rubbish at it).

But there seems such a heritage with this beast. It's come such a long way since it was v1

Kev

There's so much great Reaktor stuff I wouldn't know where to begin. But when I get a chance, I'll compile a list of "must haves." Please note, Reaktor Blocks can be a real CPU killer.

Photone, Carbon 1/2, Razor for synths.
molekular, boscomac for fx.

Oh ya Polyplex is very useful. I always forget about it. And +1 for Boscomac, amazing ensembles.

Your drum Blocks are top notch!

Blinksonic ensembles are worth a mention, I really like Ruidoz (there's a free one available as well), unfortunately I don't really use drums much these days anymore.

It's funny how many cool ensembles I've missed always pop up in these threads, even though I thought I knew the User Library inside out already- guess it's just so damn huge. In this vein, here's some picks from what I've used and kept which haven't been listed here:

DemogOrgan, a Stranger Things -inspired pad/drone synth, very nice sounds
Eminent-V, classic string ensemble emulation
MotionClusters, a supersequencer
Differberator, a delay-based thing, seems to have disappeared from the UL? Synite Audio /Jonathan Tremblay makes other interesting stuff, so check him out anyway.
S L O W by Tim Exile, neat ambient reverb, not sure if still available somewhere.

Blocks really comes to life with user Blocks, the #1 collection is Michael Hetrick's incredible Euro Reakt, and numerous excellent ones are made by Brett Lavallee and Matthew Friedrichs. These collections expand the factory Blocks to a eurorack-comparable fully equipped modular synth.

I do recommend going through the Blocks you download and sorting your favourite ones under your personal library, the sheer amount of available Blocks can be overwhelming and there's dozens of variations of the same functionality- sorting them keeps you sane and gives right-click access to the ones you'll actually use. There's also a 3rd-party application called Instrument Browser, if you fancy a graphical user interface for browsing your Blocks collection.

WARNING! Wiring up Blocks patches can be highly addictive and a massive time-sink, but may not always result in finished music. I've learnt to separate these two, I decide whether I want to explore the modular fantasy land or actually make some music. It's great to have finished configurations saved for the latter.
