I was getting a feel of track lacking direction till it hit the 2.54 minutes mark, from then on it was an absolute joy to listen to. More than the sound designing aspects, I simply enjoyed the composition of the second half of the track very much.

IMHO, this is one of your best effort at OSC.

All the very best, my friend! :tu:

(p.s. just my opinion - you don't have to do this if you don't feel the need for it. Minor mixing improvements can still be done to make it sound even more awesome sounding. A bit of air or subby feel in the second half to bolster the existing body of sound would be a nice addition).

Thanks so much, baalisoda!

Yeah, I discussed the eq a bit with TrojakEW, we had some of the same challenges - I would like to add a bit more air overall, but I get some harsh artifacts if I push it any further. We agreed it might have something with Crust's sound design to do, but I don't know. I might get away with a slight shelf lift above 15-16k.

And I could definitely add a few db's below 60Hz on the second part. I'm actually using a subbier kick in the first part when there's a lot of variation, but decided to go easier on the more repetitive "song" part - I'm usually too fond of sub myself, so decided to hold back a bit this time :-) I might change my mind by the end of the month, though!

Haven’t done OSC in quite a while, hoping to finish something this month because crust has been a pretty awesome surprise. Here’s my WIP. Pretty sure the sub bass is too loud, but I don’t have a great monitoring system so I’m wondering - how much too loud? Just a bit? or does it need to go wayyyy down?

Hi there all,

Here's DoctorBob's entry for this month. A very dense soundscape, awash with reverb and movement. Some frogs can be heard burping now and then! I had fun making this different genre track. I am still working on consolidating the 17 reverbs!! But, each instrument has quite different reverb characteristics dialled in, so I am having to be careful to not lose the density of sound.

DAW: Reaper

Track Details.
24 * Crust
24 * ReaEQ
8 * Twin Delay
8 * LFX-1310 (autopan only)
5 * Pecheneg Tremolo
17 * Oril River

Master:
TDR VOS SlickEQ
Ferric TDS
Voxengo MSED
Limiter No. 6

Analysis: SPAN

DR: 6

Please enjoy

Sounds like everyone's enjoying Crust! I know I am.

I stumbled on ET-301 last month and it has become my new favorite freebie delay. I think it's been around since the stone age, but I always seem to find these things 10 years after they were released :/ Great for short and wide roominess, too. :D
Just a touch of EQ and a tickle of compression

@Julien Unison: With all those killer genres in your sig, hope to hear something from you as well!

Interesting track.

If I may, there is some distortion that you should check. Not sure if it is track is overcompressed or there is some cliping but for me distortion is audible at whole spectrum. Also bass is too loud in some parts. Soundstage is nice so far.

Nice one. Only some parts are out of rhythm. It is on on purpose? Sub is nice little loud but maybe just making it centered/mono will be enough.

Oh, Trojak, you're on cloud 9, yet?!? This thing is unbelievably beautiful for percussion again. Really such a curiously pure sound. I've just resumed playing with it after merely a little look in the first few days. There are features that are almost kind of hidden, which turn it into brilliantly crisp and full sounding drum of all sorts. Really stunning. I have no effects on it, pure this synth, and it pleases my ears so much. Quite amazing. I hope, I'll find enough time to do more with it this month and actually make a track. :hyper:

Trojak, ya gotta realize when things are intentional, my man! :D That's part of the fun!

What doeas it mean? What is cloud 9? :help:

Well yes and no. It depends. I'm still on state of learning stuff (I'm noob) and I'm not able to tell always what was made on purpose.

AH, "cloud 9" means some sort of paradise...didn't want to say "heaven", because that would've sounded like asking, if you were dead, yet, hahaha... so, yeah, I just imagine you'd have a blast with this synth, once you find the little hidden gems that make it sparkle so brightly!

Thanks @Trojak, I'll look into it - it may well be over compression. The ONLY comp is Limiter No.6 on the master, so I will look at that as the culprit. Might go for separate comp and limit instead, might open the mix up a bit - but I still want it to be as dense as possible and the little motifs to pop out at you now and then - the comp has probably pushed the bass up a bit too in the spectrum, although I know I had pushed it a bit at the SlickEQ stage! Maybe my ears are a bit off at the moment as I have a nasty green gunge chest infection at the moment! My eyes are poorly too as I have just had my 6 weekly eyeball injection (still very sore!). But, I must carry on …

Cheers all
